Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Release: 5 Things to Know

Published

on

On Sunday, Bethesda took the stage at E3 2015 to announce Fallout 4 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The company outlined several key details including a special edition of the game dubbed Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition. With that in mind, we want to take a look at the five most important things to know right now about the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition release for PS4 and Xbox One.

In 2008, Bethesda released Fallout 3, a game that accumulated many awards and a game that’s considered by many to be one of the best video games of all time. The Fallout series has a massive fanbase and the years that followed Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas amounted to torture for many fans of the series.

Earlier this month, Bethesda teased a Fallout 4 announcement for E3 2015 and on Sunday, the company made good on its promise. On stage, the company outlined all of the key Fallout 4 PS4 and Xbox One details including its gameplay, deep customization, setting, release date, and more.

Fallout-4-12

The company also took some time to announce a special version of the game that clearly has fans of the Fallout series extremely excited. The special version is Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition and it’s aimed at hardcore fans of the series, collectors and perhaps those that just want to enhance their experience.

Since Sunday, we’ve seen several new Fallout 4 release details emerge and today we want to take a look at some of those new details. Here’s what we think you need to know right now about the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition release.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition

As of right now, there are two versions of Fallout 4 for PS4 and Xbox One. The regular version of the game and the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition. If you’re familiar with the latter, allow us to enlighten you.

The collectors edition of the game comes with your own Pip Boy. If you’re not familiar with the Fallout series, the Pip Boy is worn on the wrist and it brings up the game’s vital information. Quests, the radio, inventory, and more. It’s essential to the Fallout experience.

This replica doesn’t just look like a Pip Boy, it functions like an actual Pip Boy. It requires a smartphone to operate, either iPhone or Android, and it works in conjunction with an application that Bethesda’s released to accompany the Fallout 4 release. The Pip-Boy and the app will allow “players to manage their in-game inventory, perks, holotape, and more.” In other words, you can interact with Fallout 4 using your Pip Boy.

It’s a neat little addition, one that you’ll certainly want to take a look at, but just remember that it’s not cheap.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Price

The regular version of Fallout 4 costs $60, the usual price for a new game. The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition is expensive, double the cost of the regular Fallout 4 edition.

Fallout-4-13

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition costs $120. That’s a very steep price for a video game though the price was expected given the items coming with it. Remember, the Pip Boy is not necessary to play Fallout 4 and it’s aimed at those who just want something extra.

If you’re not a huge fan of the Fallout series or you don’t think you’ll make use of the Pip Boy, you’re probably better off ordering the standard version of the game.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition Release Date

Remember, you still have plenty of time to decide on what you want. The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition will share a release date with the regular version of the game. That date, of course, is November 10th.

Every single retailer that’s offering the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition is listing the release date as November 10th so there’s no reason to believe that it will launch any later than that. That said, if you’re dead set on buying the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition, you might want to think about putting in an early order.

Stock Shortages

Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop will all sell the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition version of the game. As of right now, GameStop isn’t taking pre-orders for the game. Best Buy is and Amazon was.

Best Buy currently has both versions of the game, PS4 and Xbox One, in stock ready to go. It’s just not clear how long that might last.

Fallout-4-6

Amazon is, for the moment, completely sold out of the Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition. You cannot pre-order the game right now and it’s not clear how long this will last. The retailer says that:

Due to limited supply, the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition is currently unavailable for pre-order. Thousands of Amazon customers have already pre-ordered this item and we are working to get more product soon.

It’s not clear how many of these Bethesda will make and we could ultimately see stock shortages plague this Edition all summer long. You’ll want to keep an eye out.

Fallout Pip Boy Edition Deals

That Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition price tag probably isn’t going to be appealing to many of you. While we haven’t spotted any huge price cuts available to the public, there is one Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition deal.

If you sign up for Gamers Club Unlocked at Best Buy, you’re able to knock the price of the game down to $95. The club requires a paid membership though it could be a solid investment for those that buy games often.

We might seen retailers offer better incentives ahead of its release in November so if you’re not looking to pay full price, you’ll want to keep your eyes out.

Fallout 4 Release Date

Fallout 4 Release Date

Ahead of yesterday's announcements, the feeling around the web was that the Fallout 4 release date would land sometime in 2015 as opposed to 2016. We kept our fingers crossed and yesterday, Bethesda confirmed the exciting news.

The Fallout 4 release date for PC, Xbox One and PS4 is confirmed for November 10th, a date that falls right smack in the middle of the holiday shopping season. Obviously, the timing is key for those planning to buy the game for themselves and the timing is also big for those that are already thinking about gifts for friends and family.

Bethesda waited a number of years to deliver the game and a release date so we're not expecting this Fallout 4 release date to budge. The game and the developer look like they're ready to get their brand new installment out on shelves and there's no reason to be skeptical. You can expect November 10th to stick.
