Fallout 4 1.3 Update Release Date Tips

The Fallout 4 update 1.3 release date is finally here for Xbox One and PS4 and we want to help console (and PC) owners prepare for the download and potential problems.

In January, Bethesda rolled out a Fallout 4 update 1.3 into beta for PC users. The beta confirmed a number of key details including a laundry list of bug fixes for Fallout 4 problems and some new features for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Last week, Bethesda decided that it had seen enough and the Fallout 4 patch 1.3 is now available for PC users through Steam.

After a few days of uncertainty, the Fallout 4 update 1.3 is now available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.

Now that the new update is here for all three platforms, we want to show you how to get ready for the Fallout 4 1.3 patch download and more.

Clean Up Your Hard Drive

For PC users, the Fallout update 1.3 appears to be small. Users report that the PC version of the update is about 94MB. That’s extremely small, much smaller than the 1.2 patch that Bethesda rolled out for PC and console last year.

On console, the update is much larger. This morning we downloaded a file for Xbox One that was over 500MB in size. The PS4 update apparently checks in over 500MB as well. With all of that that in mind, we recommend a little winter cleaning.

Right now would be a great time to get rid of files cluttering your internal or external hard drive. Some of you might be nearing the threshold and you’ll need several hundred MB to be able to play Fallout 4 with the 1.3 patch active.

Use a Wired Connection

If you don’t have a fast internet connection or if your wireless connection is unreliable, we recommend plugging your ethernet cord directly into your PC, Xbox One or PS4. This could help speed things up a bit, especially if your console is far away from your router.

How to Download the Fallout 4 Update

If you are using a PC, the update will install automatically on your system once you fire up Steam. We’re already hearing about some installation issues in the early going though so you’ll want to keep an eye on your download.

To do that, head to Library and then go to Downloads. There, you’ll be able to monitor the process of your download and installation.

If you don’t want updates to automatically download, click Auto-Updates Enabled and then choose a different option.

If you have the Instant On feature enabled on your Xbox One, your update will most likely be downloaded and installed when you fire up Fallout 4. If you don’t have it enabled, it will prompt you to download when you insert the disc.

On PS4, you’ll be able to monitor the installation process via your Notifications. Go to Downloads and you’ll be able to track the update and its progress.

If you’re concerned about the update and potential problems, you might want to disable Automatic Updates until you can gather more feedback about the 1.3 update’s performance. Here’s how to do that on PS4 and Xbox One.

Fallout 4 Patch Problems

We’re already starting to hear about Fallout 4 1.3 patch problems so you’ll want to be extremely careful with this update.

We’ve put together a few resources that will help you if you’re feeling nervous before the installation or if you’re already running into a problem with Bethesda’s latest update.

We’ve got a long-running list of fixes for the most common Fallout 4 problems. That’s the first place to start if you want to fix an 1.3 issue manually or absorb some potential fixes ahead of the installation process.

If you do run into issues with the game, you’ll want to report those problems to Bethesda and its engineers so that they can work on a fix.

Bethesda has said that it will be issuing regular bug fix updates for Fallout 4 and that it will be taking user feedback into account.

Chem Redux is an extremely popular Fallout 4 mod for PC that changes the look of the chems your character consumes on a regular basis.  Bethesda's vanilla chems look great but I'm enjoying this developer's take on stimpacks, Buffout, Psycho, and more. The new skins look like they belong in the game.  It's an excellent mod and one that would look and feel great on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
