FCC outs the Archos A5S Android-based MID

Note to manufacturers: if you want to keep your devices under wraps, you need to go full confidentiality on your FCC filings. Archos made such a request for the technical aspects of their A5S Internet Tablet, but apparently that wasn’t enough to cover photos and test results. Thus, the FCC has given us a peek at this MID, including one shot of it running Android.

Not a lot of details, but the FCC testing covered 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and a FM transmitter and receiver. There is a mention of 3G in the manual, but it was not tested. Speculation from Engadget (hat tip to them) is that this will be a feature in the A5H.

One sidenote: Why are these photos so lousy? I know the FCC can’t accept gifts from vendors, but I’d think the guys who handle all the latest devices before they’re released could arrange for a camera with autofocus.

I appreciate this article a lot. I am a long time BB user, and recently got the Bold. Actually, I had to get 3 Bolds before getting one that actually worked. After the second defective Bold, I started looking at the iPhone. I am happy with my third Bold, but next time . . .

Thanks for article. Not the typical mine is better than yours rant found on most dedicated sites.
