First Nexus 4 Deal Arrives for the T-Mobile Nexus 4

Published

on

The Nexus 4 is finally in stock at multiple retailers, which means there is enough stock for the first Nexus 4 deal we’ve seen since the pure Google Android smartphone launched late last year.

Shoppers can pick up the T-Mobile Nexus 4 for $84.99 from LetsTalk, a reseller who is cutting the cost of the T-Mobile Nexus 4 by $115 on contract.

This is cheaper than the Nexus 4 on the Google Play Store which is $299 for an 8GB version and $349 for a 16GB version, and by far the cheapest up front price for a Nexus 4 we’ve seen.

Nexus 4 Deal

The first Nexus 4 deal cuts the price to $85 on contract.

In addition to signing a contract with T-Mobile to get the Nexus 4 so cheap, there is a catch with Lets Talk that shoppers need to be aware of. On top of any T-Mobile ETF, Lets Talk will charge shoppers a $250 ETF if they cancel T-Mobile service within 180 days of purchasing the Nexus 4. This is quite a large fee for a $115 discount on the Nexus 4, so shoppers who can’t commit to at least a 6-month T-Mobile contract should skip on this deal.

After a rocky launch, the Nexus 4 is in stock at most stores, including at T-Mobile stores and online.

The Nexus 4 features a 4.7-inch 720 P HD display, an 8MP rear facing camera and a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor. The Nexus 4 does not connect to 4G LTE, but it can connect to HSPA+ 42 for speedy downloads on T-Mobile. Inside the Nexus 4 features Jelly Bean (Android 4.2), the latest version of Android and the promise of swift updates to future versions as a Nexus device. We expect Android 4.2.2 later this month and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie in May or shortly after.

Gotta Be Mobile continually ranks the Nexus 4 as one of the Best Smartphones available. Shoppers who are willing to pay more up front can buy the Nexus 4 from Google Play starting at $299 and use it on a prepaid carrier like Red Pocket Mobile or T-Mobile’s pre-paid plans at a cheaper monthly cost.

The 2 year cost of doing this is $2000. Buying the phone from google play for $299 and paying T-mobile’s $30 monthly (100 minutes, unlimited text/data) results in a 2 year cost of only $1000. This is ridiculous that you would suggest this is a better deal because you saved a whooping $215 on day one….

the actual difference of costs (no contract Tmo prepaid vs Let’s talk) is $1200 over a 2 year span — ouch!

peeps need to avoid these postpaid contracts (they are ripping you off — do the math).

yes the cost of purchasing the phone direct from GOOGLE is higher upfront, but in the long run WILL save you money (by pairing the official GOOG phone w/ a cheaper prepaid no contract plan).

plus, buying a phone direct from GOOG will ensure official updates in the future. biggest rule to remember when buying subsidized phones is that updates will be handled by either the phone manufacturer or the wireless carrier. they have NO incentive to update your phone which leads to endless waiting.

for the best Android experience, go w/ an official GOOG phone (via Google Play store)

PS: Also apparently T-mobile has kept the N4 stock and it does not come with any carrier specific bloatware or restrictions. So it will be upgradeable when Google pushes out the updates just as if you had purchased it at Google and put in a T Mobile sim card in it. There is no difference. The downside is no wi-fi calling option on this phone which is very useful if you are roaming outside the country and have WiFi connections so you can make and receive calls from your number.
