Last weekend we brought you word of the iPotty, a toilet seat to help potty train your child. This week comes news of the Fisher Price iPad Baby Seat. Actually its called the Newborn-to-Toddler Apptivity Seat for iPad Device. It costs $80 and according to the production description it the device featues “Soothing, entertaining and technology all in one great grow-with-me seat for baby! Lock your iPad® device inside the case to protect from dribbles and drool. Play and learning are at baby’s fingertips, with free apps you can download for your iPad®.”

Don’t get me wrong. I think that Tablets and kids go together very nicely. I’m just not so sure that we might not be pushing things a bit for the very youngest of the younger sets. But that’s my opinion.

ABC News has a report that I mostly agree with, highlighting that some Mom’s don’t think this is a good idea for the very young set. That report even says that the American Academy of Pediatrics thinks that toddlers under the age of 2 shouldn’t have screens put in front of them. ABC reports that “38 percent of children under the age of 2 have used a mobile device for playing games, watching videos or other media-related purposes.” That data comes from Common Sense Media.

Of course the fear here is that iPads, like televisions before them, will become an excuse for lazy or bad parenting with kids plopped down in a seat to play with an iPad. Those that think this kind of thing is a good idea will just tell those who don’t to not buy or use the gadget. But then, the prevailing thinking on what good parenting is seems to change about once every few years or so. It would be interesting to see statistics on how many of these kind of items are actually purchased at some point.

I wouldn’t recommend this for your kid – they should not watch tv if they are under 2 years old, it can cause some adverse health issues.
