Freescale names Warner Crocker a SmartPundit! (or as he might call it, an oxymoron)

If there’s one thing I know about my good friend Warner Crocker, it’s that he loves pundits and punditry. Just loves ’em. Hence, it is with great giddiness that I share news that Freescale, the semiconductor maker that puts the “smart” in smart devices, has named Warner one of the top 20 Smart Mobile Device pundits of 2010 (or should that be shortened to “SmartPundit”)?

All kidding aside (and it is hilarious if you’re familiar with Warner’s views on modern punditry), this is a pretty big deal. Turns out Freescape had been gathering feedback for the past couple weeks and from it put together a list of the twenty most revered commentators on smart mobile devices, such as smartphones, smartbooks and eReaders, and it is one heck of a list (in alphabetical order).

Whoa! Honor enough to be counted among our mobile tech comrades across the blogosphere, but to be named alongside the top tech guns of mainstream media is quite a feat. Big round of applause to our new resident SmartPundit (BTW, pretty sure I’m coining a new term here), as well as all the others, and huge thanks to everyone who voted for Warner. He is definitely our most revered commentator and a true (as in the original meaning of the word) pundit of mobile technology.

    Congrats, Warner! I love the self-deprecating humor in the post, too. I am known to sometimes be… ummm… “caustic” with Warner when I disagree with him. That said, with all sincerity I would say that Warner truly fits the bill here and truly deserves the award!

    Amazing. I didn’t even know this was going on, so I’m flattered to be in such esteemed company. Thanks to all who voted in this. Now, back to punditry. Smart or no.

    Well done Warner! We’ve been debating whether “pundit” is a positive or negative word, but as I said when Freescale started the voting, at least we’re not called “bandits.” :)

    Wow, Warner! Way to go! I am humbled to be in the presence of such Smartness and Punditry!

    Seriously, I always love to hear what Warner has to say about something before I think about a purchase. He does a fantastic InkShow.

    I don’t think oxymoron applies to Warner, because he certainly appears to have the “smarts”, (trying to use an americanism here-hopefully I’ve got it right):-).

    My Tablet-PC version of Collin’s English dictionary defines pundit as:NOUN 1. an expert 2. (formerly) a learned person 3. pandit, a Brahman learned in Sanskrit and, esp in Hindu religion, philosophy or law;
    since smart means: clever, astute, bright, hardly an oxymoron.

    sounds a bit dry, but I mean it light hearted.
    Once again congrats. Clavain.

      Sorry, this particular brand of humor doesn’t translate well outside of the States. Warner is a pundit in the original sense, as I mentioned at the end, but modern political punditry has watered down the term’s meaning since then. For example, Glenn Beck is also called a pundit (and not satirically like Stephen Colbert).
