Fujitsu Unveiling New Tablet PCs

Published

on

Akihabara News is getting a look at what Fujitsu is planning for its next round of Tablet PCs and is sharing some pictures. I’m not sure what the number/naming conventions mean at this point, or how they relate to existing Fuji Tablet PCs, but what AN is showing off includes:

The FMV-TB15/B, is a slate Tablet PC with a 12.1 inch screen, WXGA (1280×800 resolution). Intel SU9400 processor at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM, 80GB HD and something called a Felica port.

There is also a T-Series that has both 12inch and 13inch screen models, the FMV-T8170 and FMV-T8270, both featuring WXGA screens and no report yet on processor.

AH is also showing a picture of 8.9 inch WXGA Tablet PC with a Core 2Duo SU9300 @1.20GHz. I’m guessing that is along the lines of the P1600 series, but I don’t know for sure. Hopefully we’ll be getting more info soon.

We’ve seen inklings and FCC docs on some of these before, and I may be wrong here, but I’m guessing a lot of what we’re seeing here are refreshes to add the new Centrino chipsets.

Check out more pictures here.

That convertible in the Akihabara gallery looks like the T5010. Is it getting refreshed already? It doesn’t look very different, except that there doesn’t seem to be a webcam. So what could possibly be different?

Fujistu typically makes great tablets, with terrible keyboards. Sadly with the feature-list mindset this is not likely to change soon. Anyway, with the overall lack of innovation in these new devices they should at least have a low price tag.

Personally I see it as more of a novelty feature but its nice to see Felica (RFID) support built in. Felica is somewhat popular in Japan and could potentially be used to capture business cards or even used to sign on to the machine. But without details I can only imagine what it would be used for.

A sidenote… Felica is usually used for small transactions like Mastercard PayPass so maybe Fujitsu intended it for mobile/non-mobile transaction like purchases at an event or tradeshow.

canman, that sounds like something that would be more useful integrated into a handset (mobile phone).

It seems more that this are different names or internal names for the T5010 and the ST6012.

davidm, I think the Felica will find use in the configuration shown in the first photo– it looks like the dock could be used as a POS terminal.

davidm, It is in most mobile phones in Japan. Mine has it.

    I’d love a non-Motion LS800 8 inch screen in a slate format ! Is the 8.9 inch a slate ? WXGA in a 8.9 inch screen might be cool.
