1) Leave a comment on this article and tell us what applications and accessories you would use with the IdeaPad S10 to improve your mobile computing experience.

3) Use your Twitter account to share this contest with your friends. Just send the following Tweet:

Opera, my favorite non-IE browser; Pidgin, for IM; Dropbox for file syncing.

I’d be toting this thing along to campus for the break between classes. I’d also dual-boot Ubuntu and see what all this boxee tv stuff is all about. I’d Skype with Grandmum and a few pals, and buy a copy of MaxiVista to use it as another mini-monitor. I’d also network it with my old desktop for all kinds of random experiments which I and many other gadgeteers are prone to do…

Boy I got so excited I posted the comment to the wrong article… my bad.

A netbook would be used as a secondary computer mainly because at my age eyesight is an issue. that being said, it would be great to have a machine on which I could load my Logos 3 and other tools and comfortably sit on a couch and work rather than hunched over a desk.

Although I’d love to have an x61 or Panasonic toughbook tablet those aren’t in the cards in the current economy. So the next best thing is to win one.

Well, I’m not mobile yet, this would give me the opportunity to play.

For sure I would use Firefox, I’d need to find a good program for file syncing as well.

As for accessories, I would have to decide on that if I win (and as funds allow)

I might Hackintosh it so I could use the amazing writing program Scrivener. There is also a NEW version out with the 6 cell battery available from Lenovo’s website (I think I deserve the prize just for that) and if I could I’d get the 6 cell for this one.

i would use this as a school computer taking it to and from school and writing papers on it. i would use firefox 3 word and powerpoint the most

It’s so small and light it would be a great computer when I’m traveling. Whether I’m figuring out which way to go next or blogging along the way on facebook, it would get tons of use. I could skype with my webcam to friends and family. And there is always more to do with google desktop!!

  8. Tim

    03/18/2009 at 5:53 pm

After I put Open Office, Foxit Reader, SyncBack, 7Zip, AVG and Malwarebytes on it, I’d give it to my son in college.

Windows Live Mesh, MS OneNote or Evernote, Skype, and Firefox. It would be mobile cloud access and communication machine while I’m away from home.

    03/18/2009 at 6:08 pm

I’d use it mostly with MS Office stuff–especially One note, Word and Outlook. Might use it as a portable media player and stream stuff online with winamp–nothing too fancy–Oh and I’d load it up with Windows 7. I’d upgrade it immediatly with some ram and the bigger battery though…

    03/18/2009 at 6:34 pm

I would use Onenote. That is all I would need to be productive and mobile. Easy to take all my notes while at school and sync them up when I get home.

    03/18/2009 at 6:36 pm

my tablet (LE1600) is showing its age these days with reduced battery capacity, and falling apart keyboard. im a dental student, and with a limited budget, i cant justify spending the money on 2 add’l batteries and a keyboard on a 5yr old computer. i’d use it with pdf annotator and sync up with my desktop with sugarsync. (also run windows 7 beta on it)

    03/18/2009 at 7:06 pm

I would use it as a secondary computer but it is easy to carry around, so I would primarily use it for work that I have to carry around.

As far as apps go, it would have all the web apps that I’d use and productivity software too. I would refrain from using it for computationally intensive tasks.

  14. Anusha

    03/18/2009 at 7:09 pm

I would replace my old laptop with this one and make it my primary computer. I don’t require much more than to browse the web and work with documents and some office work. So all web apps, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and some of the audio/video apps – iTunes, VLC

  15. bj

    03/18/2009 at 7:26 pm

I would use this as mainly as a web appliance. Load Ubuntu and Firefox on it and have an easy to carry around web access tool. My regular 15.4″ laptop is too heavy to lug around and wifi capable phones are too small, plus I hate thumb boarding.

With my Verison Air Card for mobile webbing!

    03/18/2009 at 7:36 pm

I would put yahoo widgets to use as a dock. Mozilla sunbird as a calander app, if you don’t know about it check it out, its a good alternative to gcal. I would also put imgburn to burn isos, clone drive to mount those isos. I would also install firstclass, need for school. Of course Firefox, Msn messenger, gtalk, foxit reader for pdfs adobe never works for me, mediamonkey for music management better than itunes I find, Open Office 3 its better than office and its free! Skype for video calls, xchat for irc, and of course google chrome.
I would also put some version of linux on it to play around with. This would be my primary computer, work school play everything!

  18. Christian

    03/18/2009 at 7:37 pm

I would use some sort of media player to keep me occupied, but this would become my primary computer for school and soon work as well (thinking about working for myself). I would use my wireless usb mouse and 250 Gig external hard rive with it. I would run microsoft office as well as some adobe programs and several open source programs that I love. XP is a plus. My desktop runs Vista and I’m definetely not fan (I use it but prefer XP). So to win this would be awesome. I was actually looking at a thinkpad just yesterday, but I have to figure out how to afford one.

  19. roberto

    03/18/2009 at 7:46 pm

    Software: Microsoft Streets and Trips
Hardware: a bluetooth GPS receiver (since the s10 does not have one)

    For travel purposes

  20. Evan Brammer

    03/18/2009 at 7:58 pm

I would use a Bible software program called Libronix to have a mobile library with me at all times.

  21. Gary

    03/18/2009 at 7:59 pm

Open Office, Firefox, and some sort of media player.

  22. gorkon

    03/18/2009 at 8:09 pm

I would load Ubuntu or Eeebuntu on it. I would also use Ekiga, Firefox or Fennec possibly as well as other various open source apps.

  23. Buck Trible

    03/18/2009 at 8:10 pm

I would use Opera… IE and Firefox are lame. I would definitely go for some pidgin, too. I think I would dual boot ubuntu because I can’t live without a conky desktop and workstations. I would run abiword (better for netbooks than oo.org) and snes9x for the dull moments. I’d also pop in my 8gb sdhc for the second distro to run on & use my logitech vx nano wireless mouse (because the dongle is so small, great for netbooks). I’d pop in 2gb ram, too, just for kicks. Thanks for the opportunity!

  24. drrg

    03/18/2009 at 8:15 pm

I would take the suggestion to add more memory. As for apps, the standards:
    Thunderbird
    Firefox
    Dropbox
    OpenOffice.org
    Skype

This would work great as my wife’s primary computer…light, small, and perfect for internet/word processing.

Maybe dual boot with Ubuntu or a super light Linux distro…something optimized for netbooks…would have to see how well XP worked out.

  25. Luis Reyes

    03/18/2009 at 8:21 pm

I would try to be as mobile as possible and use the cloud as much as I can with Mesh from Microsoft.
I can tether with my blackberry also.

    03/18/2009 at 8:26 pm

the last year I’ve been traveling with my tablet pc HPtx2120us, and despite 12″ it is heavier than a netbook. I will really thank gottabemobile.com if i can get this as a price.

I will use this netbook with skype (to comunicate with friends), firefox(to surf and read gottabemobile.com), microsoft office 2003, voipstunt (to comunicate with my family) and my cisco client for the office communication.

    cheers my friends!!
and keep doing with the great job :)

  27. Corinne

    03/18/2009 at 8:27 pm

I’d use it for work because I’m always running around for my boss, but my current laptop is breaking down and my boss won’t supply me with a work issued one.

  28. Kevin Purcell

    03/18/2009 at 8:39 pm

I am planning to use this as primarily a mobile take it everywhere pc along with my Verizon usb modem to keep me connected at all times. I will be in the browser using online document editing and bible study software for research along with itunes to listen to my GBM friends tell me about other stuff I can’t afford to buy but hope they will give me.

  29. Ben

    03/18/2009 at 8:39 pm

I would probably play with it a little bit myself, then give it to my girlfriend who needs a computer.

I’d like to try going almost completely into the cloud with a netbook. I’d probably use LiveMesh to keep some files in sy nc, give Google Docs and Office Live a fair shot, and perhaps give Evernote a shot (though i do like OneNote a lot). It might also be fun to try testing some of the Android ports, if possible.

  30. Andrew Ferguson

    03/18/2009 at 8:41 pm

I would use it with Adobe Lightroom so that I could bring it with me when I take photos and preview/edit them on the spot. I shoot in RAW and having a decent size screen is helpful for previewing. I would also take it with my when I travel to Europe this summer so that I could upload photos and update my blog.

    03/18/2009 at 8:47 pm

my uses for this notebook to name a few:

    (1) Replace my aged Thinkpad T40

    (2) Onsite network config, admin, and maintenance for some non-profit schools where I volunteer as an IT admin. These small laptops are great for servicing network nodes and doing hardware setups/ firmware upgrades.

    (3) Email and light electrical engineering software (PSPICE, CodeWarrior, etc)

    (4) And of course I couldn’t resist loading Linux (build TBD) dual boot.

  32. Linda

    03/18/2009 at 8:48 pm

I will add QuickBooks to it if I can and use it for our Portable Business Computer. If QuickBooks can’t be installed I will export the spreadsheet from my desktop and use it for inventory. I would then upload it back to QuickBooks.

Being in the server team in the Army is quite computer intensive. I would use it keep all my notes (One Note) and references (TM, FM, AR, etc…) in a place quick to access and update. The light and small factor is always a plus in the military with all the gear and equipment we already use. Additional lightware (Firefox, Google Desktop, AntiVir, Trillion, etc…) would be used to maintain communications with the Cloud.

  34. Kerry

    03/18/2009 at 9:07 pm

I’d probably use it at school. It’s been a pain lugging a heavy computer around or bumming email time off friends.

  35. Aldrik

    03/18/2009 at 9:08 pm

I will be using this netbook as a secondary computer but in reality it is like my primary since I am always on the go. I need to be connected all the time and sometimes my blackberry can’t do everything.

  36. Kerry

    03/18/2009 at 9:09 pm

I’d probably use it at school. I’d love to try using such a small computer for my random free time in our local S*bucks.

  37. Andrew Lee

    03/18/2009 at 9:20 pm

I’d like to put Linux on it, probably Ubuntu, or I might try to make it a Hackintosh.

  38. Grant

    03/18/2009 at 9:22 pm

I’d put ubuntu on it, put a bigger hard drive on it and use it to watch my movies on the road. Also I might use it to do some word processing for work when I am away from my other pc’s.

  39. Kwong

    03/18/2009 at 10:17 pm

I’d use it on the go and free myself from being tethered to my desk at the office.

  40. Kenrick

    03/18/2009 at 10:50 pm

I’d use this as a secondary computer for those days where I have meetings all over the place and I’m looking for a lightweight computer to bring along. I’d mostly use office apps and a web browser, but might do little bits of development too in something like Visual Studio or Java.

  41. Matt Werner

    03/18/2009 at 10:59 pm

I have a Lenovo X61 from work that I just love, but my pregnant wife likes to steal it every night to shop for baby stuff. I would have her use this computer, and she would run mostly Mozilla to do online shopping, facebook and emails. Nothing too fancy.

  42. ivan

    03/18/2009 at 11:44 pm

will be used as primary computer

  43. Kiernan

    03/18/2009 at 11:57 pm

I would add more memory, though I probably wouldn’t do anything with the hard drive since it’s twice what I’m working with now. I’d install Firefox, Office 2007, and most of what I already have installed.

Maybe I’d try Linux on it. Although I’ve always told myself I’d install Linux on here after I get a tablet. Anyway.

    03/19/2009 at 1:18 am

My 9 year old daughter has been begging to have her own computer so I would probably give it to her, after playing around with it for a time myself! As it is now I am constantly having to battle her for time on my current laptop, so it would be nice to give her a PC of her own!

As for Apps, all she pretty much needs is an internet browser!

  45. Robert Nelson

    03/19/2009 at 3:13 am

I would give this to me wife to use, overall her needs are basic. It would really only need to have Firefox installed. She uses mostly web apps like Gmail and Facebook. Nothing crazy, but I would also install AVG and OpenOffice.

  46. Robert Nelson

    03/19/2009 at 4:29 am

The must-bring accessory for me, to pair with the IdeaPad S10, would be my Genius Navigator Wireless Mouse/Presenter: this would make the Lenovo netbook by and large (small) a wonderful mobile office device. :)

  49. Jason

    03/19/2009 at 4:56 am

This little Lenovo would receive a nLited Windows XP Pro installation to minimize unnecessary processes along with Launchy and VirtuaWin to improve navigation with regard to the relatively small touchpad and awkwardly placed touchpad buttons. A Microsoft Wireless Presenter Mouse 8000 would top off the mobility tweaks.

  50. Vasanth

    03/19/2009 at 6:26 am

I would use my E71 for mobile internet

  51. Dave

    03/19/2009 at 6:36 am

Accessories? Well, the power cord, I suppose. But seriously, what else do you need?

As for applications, well, firefox. Which means google gears. Which also means … well, basically google as an application.

  52. Eric Verno

    03/19/2009 at 6:49 am

This notebook would be used for two purposes. The first would be for my wife to use as she is showing houses to prospective buyers. She is looking for something smaller to pull up PDF files of properties and show her clients. Much better than color pics or black and white. The 2nd way would be for us to use when we take our daughter to Johns Hopkins for her treatment, she has OI (Brittle bone disease) and she receives three day treatments ever three months or so. This would be ideal for her and my wife to use while they stay there.

  53. BenSpark

    03/19/2009 at 6:58 am

We just bought one of these for my wife. I would use this one if I won for my self to blog at blog conventions. I think a smaller lightweight netbook would make me more mobile and nimble at these conferences and a large charge would keep my blogging all day long. I would be able to use this with my digital camera, my flip and also an external hard drive to make sure I backed up everything.

  54. Tanya Anna Wilson

    03/19/2009 at 7:03 am

I’d love to win the IdeaPad S10 for my teen daughters to share. My old desktop is going to crack under pressure. The girls would want to add a good browser,MS Office stuff; Adobe Acrobat, a media player, and of course all their social apps like Facebook & Skype (these are teen girls I’m talking about)and all the mobile computing experience. They like playing with moviemaker on my hubby’s laptop, so they’d add that, too.

  55. Leo

    03/19/2009 at 7:21 am

Applications: media player, open office, autoit

Accessory: carrying/protective case, power supply, screen protector, usb stick, and maybe a spare battery

  56. Jennifer

    03/19/2009 at 7:27 am

I would love to be more mobile for my blogging. I would add Firefox, Skype, Muvee Reveal, My music aps, scrapbooking programs, Video Studio Pro X2, and PSP X. Thank you for the opportunity to try to win this awesome laptop. I want to break free from the wires of a desktop :)

  57. Asia

    03/19/2009 at 7:44 am

I would use it for my college classes, most of my professors use powerpoint notes so MS PowerPoint and PDF reader would get the most use.

  58. Converting A Spendthrift

    03/19/2009 at 8:30 am

I am a researcher, so SPSS or maybe any other the research software.

All of the MS Office Professional especially OneNote, Word, Excel, etc.

I would love Publisher, I like to create my own business cards and invites.

  59. Dan H

    03/19/2009 at 8:37 am

I already have a Linux based Eee PC 900 that I love, but I think I would dig the larger screen and I’ve read some great reviews on the Lenovo. It would be a replacement for my aging Dell laptop travel companion. This thing would get Skype, Evernote, and Live Mesh installed. Mame32 is a good idea. An external drive with some movies is a plus when traveling. And to top it all off a bluetooth compatible GPS receiver.

  60. Beeb Ashcroft

    03/19/2009 at 8:39 am

What an amazing giveaway – thank you so much for the chance!

I’m a freelance journalist, so first of all I’d install OpenOffice, for finishing my articles on the go; I would also install GIMP for photo editing. As for accessories, I would use my digital camera alongside the laptop, in addition to my flash drives that store portable apps and other handy tools. I would also use it in conjunction with my external HD, so that I could back up my writing.

  61. Frick

    03/19/2009 at 8:56 am

I’d give it to my daughter in college so she would not have to lug about her old HP Notebook. She’d use it in class with her One Note.

  62. Aaron

    03/19/2009 at 9:06 am

I would use this computer as an experimental platform for using all free software, like google apps and open office. As far as accessories, I would mainly use it for working with my camera and uploading photographs.

  63. Angie

    03/19/2009 at 9:07 am

    03/19/2009 at 9:08 am

I’d like to use Chrome with it, as well as Photoshop.

  65. Heather

    03/19/2009 at 10:49 am

A netbook would be perfect for me with all of the travel I have been doing recently. Plus, to sit outside and ‘surf’ while my puppies would play in the year.

First, I would definitely add open office, photo software from Canon, and my Zune software. Obviously, I would be using my Zune, camera, and I’d like to get a wireless mouse as well. Plus, you gotta have a case and a back-up hard drive.

  66. lukasz W

    03/19/2009 at 10:52 am

Safari 4, iTunes, boxee?, just some casual stuff and nothing really big

  67. HG

    03/19/2009 at 11:04 am

First thing would be maxing out the RAM, and installing a 160GB hard drive to be able to store iTunes. I would using this on the road in the car running Window live Sync to keep all my documents insync, and to remote into my Mac back at home. I will install Adobe Elements to do simple photo editing. I would also be installing Windows 7 & Mac OS X Leopard, so I can use iLife, iWork, and Office 2008.

  68. Brian S

    03/19/2009 at 11:26 am

I would send it to my friend that has lost almost everything this last year. He hasn’t been able to get a computer, not to mention anything else. He’s watching an old 15″ tube tv, and is trying to get his life back together. I think he would enjoy the S10 and would help him connect to friends and family again.

  69. John Darrow

    03/19/2009 at 12:09 pm

I’d plan to increase the RAM, and would add Microsoft Word and Firefox. I would also add a wireless mouse, and I’d see if it would work with a Pinnacle PCTV USB tuner. My primary use would be to take minutes for several nonprofit Boards I’m on; the size should be easier to carry than a larger laptop.

  70. Morgan Creelman

    03/19/2009 at 2:03 pm

I’d mostly be using stuff like skype and firefox, maybe office as well. it would be mostly a note taker and a web browser for me.

  71. Dave Wells

    03/19/2009 at 2:41 pm

If I was lucky enough to win this amazing prize I would love to try out one of the new quick boot applications for netbooks, launching a browser in 15 seconds sounds awesome to me after being used to 150+ second boot times for Windows Vista (seems even slower after SP2 RC!). I would also use a wireless mouse because I find track pads slow my productivity. Thanks.

  72. Kere

    03/19/2009 at 3:22 pm

i would use this netbook for programming for my computer science projects

  73. Mr. Z

    03/19/2009 at 3:46 pm

    APPLICATION-wise

Mostly, this would be a secondary, mobile computing solution for me. I would only load a few applications, since I would not expect this device to perform well under intense computing loads. VLC would be my media player of choice for entertainment purposes (movies, music, etc). Certainly some pdf tools (Adobe viewer, CutePDF writer). I would use some light-weight imaging applications for medical research, as I would intend to use the device in adjunct to research. The rest is your typical day-to-day computer use, i.e. browsing the internet, email, spreadsheets, word processing.

ACCESSORY-wise, a wireless mouse would be handy, as well as some expansion (external usb drive, flashdrive, etc).

  74. Shan Gee

    03/19/2009 at 5:52 pm

I would upgrade the RAM to 1 GB and install Windows 7 on there. The first thing I’d install on there is Office 2007 followed by Firefox and Google Chrome. The only accessory I would buy for this is a wireless mouse from Logitech. This notebook would be great for blogging, completing school assignments, website development, and many other purposes.

  75. Daniel Barton

    03/19/2009 at 6:38 pm

My wife is studying for her MBA and is yearning to have one of these for note taking and working with her group. She’ll be very happy if she wins!

I’d mostly use it with OneNote, in conjunction with the internet for research and writing.

  77. Carlos

    03/19/2009 at 8:54 pm

It would be used as a primary computer; the battery on my current machine does not hold much of a charge…

  78. Howard

    03/19/2009 at 9:06 pm

This would be my secondary computer, probably to bring to classes to finish assignments or browse the web.

  82. CTSLICK

    03/19/2009 at 10:16 pm

Firefox, Thunderbird, VLC and likely iTunes. Just set this up as a lightweight personal assistant and let my other computers do the heavy lifting.

    03/20/2009 at 1:52 am

Choose a browser. I think either IE 8 or Google Chrome.
    Maybe upgrade its RAM.

    03/20/2009 at 2:07 am

I could use this computer notebook as a backup.

    03/20/2009 at 2:07 am

I would like to use this to give to a friend who can’t afford her own. Her birthday is coming up, so it would be a very nice gift.

    Firefox, Sketchup, OpenOffice 3…

  88. Steve

    03/20/2009 at 4:58 am

I’d be leaving my over-sized laptop home a lot more and using my Sprint U737 modem with Skype, Firefox and Outlook to keep in touch with the rest of the world when on the road.

  89. Michael Anderson

    03/20/2009 at 6:25 am

I would use ‘office’ apps, and also a wireless mouse and 4GB USB card to sync up with my main laptop!

  90. Bruce Campbell

    03/20/2009 at 8:03 am

I would put in a bigger hard drive and more memory, and then put OS X on it.

I would use one of the wonderful Waterfield sleeve cases, and carry it in my Tom Binh Imago bag.

I back-up to several USB hard drives, but wouldn’t carry more than a USB memory stick with the S10. the idea is to be mobile, so the fewer accessories, the better.

  91. Clemens

    03/20/2009 at 11:02 am

I would install Firefox, Thunderbird, Miranda IM and OpenOffice!

  92. Andrew

    03/20/2009 at 12:10 pm

I would use it as a nice little travel laptop for myself or my wife to use while away for short trips. The built in camera would be used a lot while on trips for video messaging. USB drives and documents will be well used while moving around with suck a nice small machine.

    03/20/2009 at 12:44 pm

I would use this as my secondary computer. It would be a relief no to always carry around my 17″ laptop now that I have a backup hard drive to carry any music or movies and programs. This would be fantastic I can still surf the web with the wi-fi feature and still have the best of both worlds
ultimate portability and functionality. What more con I ask for.

  94. Max

    03/20/2009 at 1:24 pm

I wish it had wimax built in.

  95. M@rc

    03/20/2009 at 3:34 pm

I would give it to my brother who’s going to university next year. He would use it as primary computer, so he’ll likely use onenote for school, as well as other office software. He might also use skype to contact me or some other friends.

    03/20/2009 at 6:07 pm

I would use it as a primary computer, I run my own at home business via my computer and sometimes it is hard to get on my computer during the day because I have a 6 month old daughter. Having this notebook computer would allow me easier access to the computer while still being able to take care of my daughter. I would be able to run my business, access my accounts and check my emails with ease. Thanks so much for such a wonderful opportunity!

  98. Michelle

    03/20/2009 at 11:22 pm

I’d put either ubuntu or fedora on it. Also i would get some more RAM, and maybe a six-cell battery.

  99. Tom

    03/20/2009 at 11:25 pm

I would probably find myself using firefox the entire time.

    03/20/2009 at 11:44 pm

If I recieved the S10 it would be my companion device coming with me to the library and will be carried around the house to watch videos and surf on Firefox. The S10 will give me a full mobile computing solution with XP on it (instead of a linux based system) which will also allow me to read my Zinio magazines.

    Basic List of Apps:
    Firefox
    Media Player Classic
    Windows Live Messenger
    Zinio Reader

    03/21/2009 at 1:32 am

I will have firefox to browse the internet and use media player classic for my audio and video files. For reading pdf files, I shall use foxit pdf reader. For making pdf files, I shall use nova.

  102. ErikH

    03/21/2009 at 7:31 am

I’d add memory and a hard drive for sure. Would use FF, Chrome,OneNote,Evernote, Skype.

  103. Jane

    03/21/2009 at 9:33 am

I’ll be using this as my secondary computer. Therefore, I don’t anticipate adding any major extras other than extra memory.

  104. G.Smith

    03/21/2009 at 10:08 am

If I win I will use this as a secondary computer, when I’m away from home, or visiting friends and family. I would upgrade the memory and add a larger hard drive. This would be great for sharing pics and videos with family.

  105. Naomi Caneda

    03/21/2009 at 11:22 am

I would use this as a secondary computer. Firefox is a must for web browsing and of course windows live for IMing. I would probably have to see if I needed to add a larger harddrive or more memory =).

  106. Larry Smithmier

    03/21/2009 at 6:20 pm

I would use it as a primary home computer. My work laptop stays at work now and I use my desktop to remote in at need. As a developer, I am interested in writing apps that are ink Enabled. Could you ink enable your comments?

  107. Derrill

    03/21/2009 at 6:20 pm

First thing, ram and hard drive upgrade, then xp pro, skype, miro, avast, and chrome. Light and simple, thats all I need it for.

  108. Larry Smithmier

    03/21/2009 at 6:50 pm

I would mainly use Remote Desktop to connect to my desktop since I have yet to find a Tablet with enough horsepower to be a primary programming box. I will also use IE to browse.

  109. C.M.

    03/22/2009 at 3:22 am

I’ll use the netbook for school work mostly or for work on the go. Application wise, I’ll be using Firefox, Evernote, and Onenote. For accessories, I’ll be using a broadband module for internet access anywhere and my trusty Cricket laptop stand. I might also try installing linux to see more operating system improvement.

  110. Mahmoud Hammoudeh

    03/22/2009 at 4:55 am

I would give to mt brother who will use as a primary computer.

  111. smh

    03/22/2009 at 3:54 pm

I would primarily use the S10 in the lab, because the student labs at the university I’m studying at only have a desktop computer for several microscopes and it would be great to be able to load the software on a portable computer and have the opportunity to manipulate with the data and move to a different microscope without the need to move a 20 some kilo desktop(back pain after a few tries :( ). Since the ideapad has USB, I will manly use a Serial to USB converter for the microscope interface and load a custom linux on the device for the data measurement software.
As for hardware upgrades, there won’t be any in the near future as the specs from stock are good enough as a data gathering unit.

    03/22/2009 at 5:03 pm

I would use a bluetooth mouse, a portable bluetooth printer and as far as applications go, I would use it main for surfing the net with Google chrome as it is not as resource heavy as Firefox when using on a netbook.

  113. Charles

    03/22/2009 at 6:30 pm

I would use a wireless keyborad & mouse when at home, and a bluetooth mouse when on the road.

Softwre wise, I’d probably use MS-Office (or possibly OpenOffice) along with Firefox, Thunderbird and ECCO (my favorite PIM).

If I can get used to a smaller screen, I’d use it as my primary PC…

  114. ChrisRS

    03/22/2009 at 8:24 pm

This would be a mobile computer for my wife. Word and scheduling for 4 kids. Probably would link to desktop at home for backup and email. Internet “couch surfing” mostly at home

  115. Booji

    03/22/2009 at 9:22 pm

The ideapad would be a great addition to my office. Since we use an EMR at the hospital, accessing patient records right at their bedside would be great, especially when wanting to show them post-operative x-rays of fracture reductions, prostheses, etc. The ideapad, being as small and powerful as it is, would be a wonderful addition for this purpose.

  116. Alicia Cpleman

    03/22/2009 at 9:35 pm

The computer would give me and my kids a chance to have a computer. We can finally come up to the 21st century. It would give use the ability to learn and develope on a level like everyone else.

  117. Andrius

    03/23/2009 at 5:22 am

I would install ubuntu 9.04 on it, would be nice one to spread open source

    03/23/2009 at 7:10 am

Getting tired of lugging a large laptop around and would like to test out the usability of a much lighter laptop. Right now I’m running, Outlook, Revit, Ecotect, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Bluebeam PDF Revu, Journal, Juice, ACDsee, Gimp, a few databases, and of course Firefox. Since this would be a secondary computer, I’m really curious if it could handle any of my productivity apps during my daily commute. Revit would be the most important even at a basic level.

    03/23/2009 at 11:31 am

In terms of applications, if I win this, I’d take the opportunity to try some new things my current computer can’t take due to its old/dusty status. I’ve heard greats things about Ubuntu, so I’d like to try that. I’d like to try OpenOffice as well.

Accessories…I don’t know. I’d probably post here for ideas. I’m an accessories virgin!

Using Firefox for web browsing would be my main use of the S10. Checking email with Outlook would be secondary, and using SlingPlayer for remote TV watching would be my third main application usage. Most likely would only use a cordless mouse as a peripheral device for the S10. May also use a Bluetooth GPS with MS Streets and Trips when I want a larger screen than my GPS unit.

  122. Ainsley

    03/26/2009 at 8:37 am

I’d upgrade the ram then use the computer while traveling for email, skype, and sharing pictures. I’d use xp pro, firefox, avira, office.
