Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean Update Rolling Out Now

Published

on

Shortly after the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean update starting out for owners of the Nexus 10, Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 comes word that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, of the Takju and Yakju varieties, has begun receiving a Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean update of its own.

Google has begun rolling out the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Nexus, an update that while not massive, squashes a pesky bug that came along with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update.

The Android 4.2.1 update is a minor update, sitting at just over 1MB in size, and it promises to fix the December bug that made the month unavailable inside of Android’s People application. Those looking in the calendar in contacts, after installing the update, should see December, which was not visible before.

The Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean update is rolling out now.

Of course, not every Galaxy Nexus owner is going to see the update today. Instead, expect the software to roll out extremely slow just like the other Nexus Android 4.2.1 updates that starting rolling out yesterday. Like those though, there are some ways to be proactive at getting the software.

Those running custom recovery on their Galaxy Nexus can simply snag the updates, here for the Takju and here for the Yakju, move them to the device and flash them. We advise users to just wait for the official roll out though, especially those who are not used to flashing software on their device.

There is also another way to try and force the update on the Galaxy Nexus. Galaxy Nexus owners will want to follow these simple instructions. It won’t work for everyone, and some users report trying different combinations as far as Force Stop and Clear Data are concerned, but it’s worth a shot nonetheless.

1. Go to Settings -> Apps -> All

2. Find Google Services Framework.

3. Tap on Force Stop.

4. Select Clear Data.

5. Head back to the Galaxy Nexus’ Settings, go to About, and check for a System Update.

It’s possible that after performing this, there will be an update waiting. There is also the chance that nothing will happen at all. If the latter occurs, remain patient, and know the update is on its way.

A previous update worked only via WiFi. I’ll try it here in Phoenix but I highly doubt Verizon is on board with this release.

    WARNING

Following this advice has screwed up some of my Google services. One of which being that my phone has disappeared from Google Play. I can no longer install apps in the Google Play store via a web browser.

Google’s services seem to have no knowledge of the fact that my Galaxy Nexus is still one of my devices.
