Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop Update: What We Know So Far

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update continue to take twists and turns as we push deeper into the year. With new details swirling, we take a look at everything we know so far about the unconfirmed Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop release.

In December, Samsung started pushing out its Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Galaxy devices. The update started with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and it has since spread to many top devices including the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Alpha, and others.

As we’ve pressed into the new year, Samsung’s started to update some of its lesser known smartphones and tablets, widening the scope of an update that was already rolling out on a massive scale. This shift has brought up more questions and it has kick started some new Lollipop details including information about the elusive Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 isn’t getting any younger and the device currently sits in a gray area when it comes to the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Samsung typically doesn’t update flagships after two years. We’ve also seen a number of Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop details go back and forth as the update has picked up its pace.

With the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update in mind, we take a look at what we know so far about the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update and its release, a release that still isn’t confirmed.

Samsung: Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop Update Isn’t Happening

SamMobile recently discovered some comments lurking on Samsung Gulf’s Facebook page. According to the regional Samsung arm, the company will not be rolling out a Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update. The regional wing didn’t elaborate on why the update won’t be happening nor did it clarify if the information applies to countries under its jurisdiction or if it applies to all versions of the Galaxy Note 2.

This appears to line up with recent Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop rumors. A recent report claimed that Samsung still hadn’t started development on the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update. At the very least, this means that a roll out is still very far out. SamMobile says that the update still hasn’t appeared on Samsung’s servers, a sign that we’re probably not close to a release.

Samsung: Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop Update Could Happen

If that wasn’t confusing enough, Samsung Spain recently sent out a tweet that essentially says that the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update will happen if the software passes in testing behind the scenes. Testing is extremely unpredictable and we’ve seen a number of devices including top flight phones like the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge failed in the lab.

The Galaxy Note 2 is an extremely old device with aging hardware so the company needs to ensure that the software is ready for public consumption before it’s released. Android 5.0 Lollipop problems have plagued Galaxy users for months, despite Samsung’s best efforts.

The regional arm says that it doesn’t have any dates for the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop release, if there is one. It also says that it will be consulting with its engineers on the testing, a sign that the update might actually be in development in some regions.

Samsung: Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop Release is Happening

So it would appear that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update that was seemingly confirmed by multiple international Samsung wings is now in limbo.

Samsung Poland, Samsung Finland, Samsung Denmark, and others have confirmed the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update for arrival, even going as far as to confirm the update’s version. Of course, some of these confirmations came with a massive disclaimer:

The information provided on this page is preliminary and will be updated as soon as new information is available. Samsung Denmark can not give more information than what is listed here. Samsung can not provide compensation if an update is released later or completely canceled, and we reserve the right to at any time remove / change / add information. All information applies to phones that are not operator locked; operator locked phones get updates later (usually within 2-4 weeks). When an update is published, it is our goal that as many as possible to get the updates as soon as possible, but to avoid overloading our servers, we can spread the updates, so it takes a little before anyone can download the update.

Unfortunately, at this point, it appears that the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop could go one way or the other. Some people at Samsung seem to think that the update has a good chance at rolling out while others don’t think the Galaxy Note 2 Lollipop update will ever officially make it out to users around the world. Samsung itself still hasn’t confirmed either way.

“The Galaxy Note 2 is an extremely old device with aging hardware” – this means for me the two years spent paying for it. I’m a Samsung fan now all the way, living in Korea, haha.
