New Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Starts Rolling Out

It may not be the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update many users are looking for but a new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update that started rolling out today might just be the next best thing as it delivers Samsung Galaxy S5 software features to owners of Samsung’s 5.7-inch Galaxy Note.

Earlier this year, Samsung started rolling out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. The update, which rolled out in January, continues to land for Galaxy Note 3 users ahead of Android 4.4.4 KitKat, Android 4.4.3 KitKat, or Android L, three Android updates that were released to various Android users earlier this month.

With a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update and an Android L update out of reach, users will need to settle for the next best thing: A new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update that brings new features to the table.

In June, T-Mobile rolled out a Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update that delivered Galaxy S5 software features including Download Booster and the all new Kids Mode. We assumed that these features would make their way to other versions of the Galaxy Note 3 at some point and sure enough, today is the day of that new roll out.

According to users on XDA-Developers, Samsung is now pushing out a new Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update that is loaded with Galaxy S5 software features including Kids Mode, Download Booster and Samsung KNOX 2.0. All of these features arrived with the Samsung Galaxy S5 back in April though they have spread to other Galaxy users, including owners of the Galaxy S4, since.

This new Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update does not deliver the Galaxy S5’s entire software feature set, Samsung tends to leave some features on as exclusives to help sell the device, but these are certainly nice additions for a device that remains one of Samsung’s top smartphone options.

The update is rolling out to owners of the international Galaxy Note 3 in the United Kingdom though we expect the software update to start spreading to Galaxy Note 3 owners around the world in the weeks ahead. Samsung’s software updates roll out over the course of several weeks and unfortunately, they are extremely unpredictable so it’s impossible to say where this Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will land next.

While rumors have pointed to an Android 4.4.3 KitKat or Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy S4, we haven’t heard any rumors regarding a Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update or Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. Both updates represent bug fixes for Android 4.4.2 KitKat and as we’ve pointed out, there are many Galaxy Note 3 owners in the United States who are hoping for another bug fix update before the arrival of Android L later on this year.

There are also some users who simply want the upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. Several Galaxy Note 3 owners remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, six months after Samsung first started rolling out the update. As we’ve noted, several missing Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates are expected to roll out in the month of July though those dates are ETAs and aren’t concrete.

It’s not clear if these lagging Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates will feature Kids Mode, Samsung Knox, Download Booster or any other Galaxy S5 features though there is of course a chance that carriers like Vodafone Australia and Telstra tack on these upgrades.

As for a Galaxy Note 3 Android L update, it remains unconfirmed. Rumors put the Android L release somewhere between October and December which means that it could be awhile before we see Samsung push out the Android L update for the Galaxy Note 3 or any other Galaxy smartphone or tablet.

I think it’s a joke when you purchase a non carrier branded phone outright in Australia from JB’s to have to wait this long!. Looks like carrier’s will receive it first?.. Make’s you re think your next mobile??. Come on Samsung spread it out customer’s like myself who spent good money on a top end device still have to wait.

I had the update in January. How is it just rolling out? I think this is wrong.

It’s the newest version of 4.4.2 (rather than 4.4.3 we’ve been expecting to see). My 4yearold kid loves the stuff packed in the kid-mode. I was expecting to see 2 things- battery draining solved (although I did ‘solve’ it by disabling the google sync and like background processes) and random restarts. Did not happen too often-several times a week, but still… Anyway, since it’s not even 24 hrs since it rolled out, it’s too early to say, but so far-so good-so what!?
