Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Update Breakdown (Pt. 2)

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update continues to make progress in the weeks after its initial release in February. With that in mind, we want to take a look at what Samsung Galaxy Note 4 users need to know this week about the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update and its release.

In the last month of 2014, a few weeks after the start of Google’s push, Samsung delivered its first Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade. The upgrade unsurprisingly went to the Samsung Galaxy S5, the company’s former Galaxy S flagship. In late January, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates. Those came as a bit of a surprise given that the Galaxy Note 4 was and is a current flagship.

Last month, the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update finally started rolling out. The update is the Galaxy Note 4’s first major update and one that brings a ton of new features to the table including Google’s new Material Design.

In the weeks since the first Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop roll out, we’ve seen updates and information flow. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update has hit a number of different devices in a number of different regions. There’s a solid foundation, sure, but there is still a long way to go until Samsung completes its Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop roll out.

With Galaxy Lollipop release information swirling, we want to breakdown everything we think you need to know about the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop release this week. This breakdown includes a look at the progress the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update has made recently and a look at what we know about its future. There is a long road ahead but Samsung is working very hard to get its Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 upgrade out to as many people as possible in as little time as possible.

US Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Release: 1/5

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release in the United States hasn’t made any progress since Sprint’s roll out started on March 5th. US carriers still aren’t talking about the Galaxy Note 4 release date and even AT&T, a carrier that’s been extremely chatty about the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update, remains silent about its plans.

T-Mobile’s Android upgrade page still says that the update is in “Manufacturer Development” which means that “T-Mobile and the device manufacturer have agreed to support a new software update.” In this case, the device manufacturer is Samsung. The update has been in a holding pattern for several weeks now and it’s not clear when Samsung will hand it off to T-Mobile for testing.

Carrier testing typically takes a few weeks so the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is probably still weeks away from its public arrival. As for AT&T, Verizon and U.S. Cellular, we haven’t seen anything emerge.

Stagnation

The key word this week is “stagnation.” That word sums up the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update perfectly. This week, we haven’t seen much movement. Samsung still hasn’t started pushing out updates at a rapid pace, updates that have already been confirmed haven’t moved, and carriers that are typically very vocal about release dates remain silent.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is about a month old so it’s not surprising to see it limited. And with the amount of problems Samsung’s having with Android 5.0 Lollipop, it makes sense that the company is taking its time with this roll out. The Galaxy Note 4 is a flagship phone and a popular one at that. It doesn’t need bad publicity.

Canadian carrier Rogers still lists the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release as TBD and we haven’t seen any movement at French carrier SFR. SFR also confirmed a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release weeks ago but it has yet to offer a concrete date. Carriers that typically confirm updates ahead of time, the Vodafone’s and Optus’ of the world, are still silent about their plans, a sign that the updates could be weeks, if not months away.

Time to Prepare

Carriers (US and otherwise) haven’t confirmed the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release but with March very young and an update now live in the United States, now is a great time for Galaxy Note 4 users in the US and around the world to start preparing for the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release.

We’ve put together a number of steps that we think Galaxy Note 4 users should take ahead of the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop roll out. These will help keep Lollipop problems at bay and they will help users prepare themselves, and their device, for the big change from Android 4.4 to Android 5.0.

Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Update Moves

We have seen some movement for another Galaxy Note 4 model though. According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update is now cruising out to owners in India. This is the second Galaxy Note Edge roll out, the first was in Australia, and it’s a sign that Samsung’s making progress with its curved Galaxy Note 4 variant.

In the United States, only one Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update is confirmed. T-Mobile recently added the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update to its software upgrade page though like the Galaxy Note 4’s Lollipop upgrade, the Galaxy Note Edge’s update is still in “Manufacturer Development” which means that it could be weeks or months away.

This will definitely be the last Samsung Galaxy phone I purchase, older models of other manufacturers have been updated months ago
