Galaxy Note 5 Specs: 7 Things Photos Reveal Right Now

Published

on

As we approach the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 5 launch date, we continue to see new details emerge. Many of those details have come from leaked Galaxy Note 5 photos and today we want to take a look at those photos and tell about a few things we’ve learned ahead of the Galaxy Note 5 release.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 rumors have been swirling around for several months though only recently have they started to firm up. The Galaxy Note 5 still isn’t confirmed but thanks to a series of new leaks and rumors, we have a pretty good read on the Galaxy Note 5 launch date, Galaxy Note 5 release date and many of the Galaxy Note 5 specs that will tempt consumers in the United States and around the world.

Some of these rumors have come from alleged Galaxy Note 5 photos. Samsung hasn’t released any official photos of the device but we’ve seen molds from accessory makers and other photos hint at what’s to come. These photos are just a piece of the puzzle but they’ve been a big piece in buildup to Samsung’s inevitable announcement.

Today we want to take you on a visual tour of what we think we know about the Galaxy Note 5 ahead of its launch date. These Galaxy Note 5 photos have told us quite a bit about the Galaxy Note 5 before August and here are the most important details we’ve been able to glean from them.

Keep these in mind as we press on deeper into the summer towards the supposed Samsung Galaxy Note 5 launch and release in August.

It’s Probably a Blown Up Galaxy S6

Earlier this year, Samsung ditched its plastic Galaxy S design in favor of a new design language that incorporates premium build materials. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge feature glass and metal designs that put them on the same pedestal as the iPhone 6 and the HTC One M9. They’re gorgeous.

The Galaxy Note 4 foreshadowed these changes with its combination of plastic and metal and it looks like Samsung will go all the way with a full-on redesign this year.

Note-5-8

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 photos, which include leaks from accessory manufacturers and well known leaksters, all depict the Galaxy Note 5 as a larger version of the Galaxy S6. One site believes that its photos prove that the Galaxy Note 5 will come with a glass and plastic design.

The latest round of Galaxy Note 5 design rumors point to the use of metal, glass, and a design that probably looks something like this. Several beautiful Galaxy Note 5 concepts have elaborated on these photo leaks and Galaxy Note 5 rumors to showcase what the real Galaxy Note 5 could look like when it arrives. Unsurprisingly, it looks a whole lot like the Galaxy S6.

Note-5-2

The move makes sense. There’s no going back to full-on plastic designs. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have set the bar and anything below that bar could make things difficult in a loaded fall lineup that includes the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, two Galaxy Note 5 competitors.

It also makes sense given that rumors point to a curved Galaxy S6 Edge+ that will compliment the Galaxy Note 5. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ won’t be a Galaxy Note but it will likely serve as the curved alternative to the Galaxy Note 5 thanks to its massive display that wraps around both edges.

Galaxy Note 5 Dimensions

These Galaxy Note 5 photo leaks also hint at the device’s exact dimensions and it looks like it could be an extremely thin device. Not as thin as the Galaxy S6 but thin nonetheless.

Note-5-9

GSMArena recently released supposed Galaxy Note 5 renders from an accessory maker. If these cases are accurate and there’s no reason to believe that they aren’t (accessory makers typically get dimensions ahead of a device’s release so that they can prepare), the Galaxy Note 5 will measure 153.3mm x 76.1mm x 7.9mm in size.

To put that into perspective, the Galaxy Note 5 could be as tall as the Galaxy Note 4, a little less wide, and a lot thinner. The Galaxy Note 4 is 8.5mm thin. If these dimensions hold, the Galaxy Note 5 will be thicker than the 6.8mm thin Samsung Galaxy S6.

Note-5-4

All of this could mean that the Galaxy Note 5 design will be a little more portable than previous generations of the Galaxy Note. The Galaxy Note can, at times, be a little unwieldy so if Samsung is able to shave some of the bulk consumers will be in much better shape.

Big Galaxy Note 5 Display

From these leaked Galaxy Note 5 photos we get sense that while Samsung might be trimming the Galaxy Note 5 design, it probably won’t be trimming the Galaxy Note 5 display.

Note-5-10

The Galaxy Note series has long been known for its big display and it doesn’t look like Samsung is going to cheat anyone here with the Galaxy Note 5. The photos and leaks depict a phone with a larger screen and those who are interested should expect Samsung to deliver.

This matches what we’ve heard about the Galaxy Note 5 display. Samsung will reportedly keep the display at 5.7-inches, same as the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3. This appears to be the sweet spot as it’s not so big to push people away and it’s not so small that it encroaches on the Galaxy S6.

Note-5-7

The Galaxy Note 5 will also reportedly feature the same 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution found on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. While many of you were probably hoping for an Ultra HD display, Quad HD is going to suit most people just fine.

Galaxy Note 5 S Pen

It’s also looking like while the new Galaxy S6 Edge+ won’t come with an S Pen, the Galaxy Note 5 will indeed come with a brand new S Pen stylus.

Note-5-5

All of the photos we’ve seen show a holder for the S Pen. And what’s interesting is that these photos have pointed to a new feature that could potentially make getting the S Pen out of its holster a little bit easier.

Some new case leaks back up the other photos. The S Pen holder is flush with the device’s design. What this means is that it could arrive with that aut0-eject feature that Samsung patented for use with its Galaxy Note series. It also, as SamMobile points out, could use a “push-to-release mechanism” never before seen on the Galaxy Note. It’s not clear.

Note-5-6

What is clear though is that the S Pen on the Galaxy Note 5 likely won’t be the same as the S Pen found on other versions of the Galaxy Note.

Note-5-3

Recent reports suggest that the Galaxy Note 5 S Pen will “will look more like a pen” and that it will feel more like a real pen as well. We’ve also heard that the S Pen will match the color of the device. New photos show us just how that might look.

These photos come from popular Chinese microblogging site Weibo and they depict a new and improved S Pen that does, in fact, look more like a real pen. The pen’s tip backs up those “push-to-release” mechanism rumors as well.

No USB Type-C

At one point, Galaxy Note 5 rumors pointed to the arrival of USB Type-C. USB Type-C would allow the device to transfer files much faster than the USB technology on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 4. That would be huge for a media-intensive device like the Galaxy Note.

These recent Galaxy Note 5 leaks fail to depict a USB Type-C. Instead, the renders from case makers show a familiar USB port with older technology. This means slower transfer speeds and this also means is that you’ll probably still be using non-reversible USB cables with the Galaxy Note 5.

No MicroSD Card Slot

Samsung’s new design language comes with some tradeoffs. Two of the biggest are the non-expandable memory and non-removable batteries. While the Galaxy Note 4 comes with both a microSD card slot and a removable battery, the Galaxy S6 comes with neither.

Note-5-11

These Galaxy Note 5 photos don’t feature a microSD card slot. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 design will reportedly come without a microSD card slot and that’s just another sign that the Galaxy Note 5 will be coming with a premium design similar to the one found on the Galaxy S6.

This probably means that the Galaxy Note 5 will come with several different storage options. The Galaxy S6 comes with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB of storage.

No Removable Battery

And given the premium design, the Galaxy Note 5 is not likely to have a removable battery. Instead, it’s rumored to have a massive 4,000 mAh battery. That’s much bigger than the batteries found inside the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S6 Edge.

If this is true, and it probably is, it means that users won’t be able to install an extended battery for more juice. It also means that if something goes wrong with the stock battery, you won’t be able to replace the battery yourself.

10 Things to Do Before the Galaxy Note 5 Release Date

Research Your Galaxy Note 5 Storage Needs

Research Your Galaxy Note 5 Storage Needs

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 isn't official yet but that doesn't mean that you can't prepare for its arrival. There are a number of things you can do ahead of Samsung's announcement and release and deciding on how much storage you might need is one of them.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 design is reportedly going to be similar to the Galaxy S6's. That means premium build materials but it also means no microSD card slot for expanded storage. If this is true, and it probably is, it's going to put pressure on you to figure out how much internal storage you'll need.

If Samsung's Galaxy Note 5 doesn't feature expandable storage, it'll likely come with several storage options. Those storage options will vary in price. You don't want to pay for storage that you're never going to need so you'll want to think about this ahead of time.

Take a look at your current device, think about how you might use your next phone, and estimate how much storage it will take to feel comfortable. For some of you, it might be 32GB. For others, it might be a 128GB of space.

We don't know how much the Galaxy Note 5 will come with yet but chances are we'll see some sort of combo featuring 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Well then, bubye Samsung! Been nice right from the 1st S straight up through the S5 & Note 4 Edge. Too bad that you felt that all consuming urge to compete with Apple and Motorola. Instead of listening to your consumers, you chose to listen to the pundits. You broke the mold that made you a top seller and now you will surely suffer the consequences. I’m waiting and watching the Fall Lineup to see who capitalizes on your mistakes.

I haven’t missed the removable battery or MicroSD slot. The faster memory in the S6 is worth the tradeoff. Much better feeling and sturdy device now.

I’ve always had issues connecting to the phone with the USB cable thru the charging port and accessing the SD card. But popping it out and into a reader gives me speed and accuracy when connecting to my PC or Laptop.

What you don’t seem to understand is that the note 4 is not an S6. The note series has always been designed for business and productivity. With a 4K screen (4K video recording and playback) you need a lot of space so you need an SD card.

In a business environment you need to be able to switch memory cards (for example I have one for each site and project I am working on). And you need to switch the battery on the go.

IF I wanted an S6… i would have bought an S6…. but it doesn’t cut it as a productivity oriented phone.

and 4000 mAh battery will not last all day when 2 note 4 batteries are needed for a full day of heavy use.

I’m done with Samsung once I move on from my note series. I’ve been a longtime customer. But the s6 was a financial failure for a reason… and it looks like Samsung wants to repeat it’s mistakes.

Exactly they ruined the note series. I’m sticking with my note 4. No sd card slot no removable battery. Wth plus no bigger screen I was hoping for at least 5.9 or 6 but no. I was going to buy the note 5 out right, not anymore. It’s way more of a down grade. If I wanted Apple crap I’d buy Apple. Plus the camera is only 16 mega pixels yes it’s better than my note 4 but not much. I don’t take selfies I don’t need a 8 mega pixel front camera. Bye Samsung

Samsung is about to lose a huge market share by trying to become an Android alternative to iPhone. 4Q drop will be devastating for them while LG will flourish.

Ughhh if this is true, I’m just sticking w my note 4. I might as well get an iPhone if this is the case.

I feel like I am back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s when I wanted to buy a new PDA/phone but no one would make a significant improvement. At least Apple fixed that for a short time…. I wish someone would make a truly premium phone that you could use for anything (waterproof, removable battery, sd card, etc) rather than removing functionality. We need another Steve Jobs to come along and get the phone market out of the rut.

I’ve been a happy Samsung note fan and owner for a few years. I’ll be VERY VERY disappointed if I can’t upgrade the battery to an extended one in the Note 5… the stock battery never cuts it, esp when you have a 6 year old son. I will stick with Note 4 for another year and switch brands if I can’t add memory or swap battery. Goodbye Samsung, you are about to lose a faithful customer unless you change the direction you appear to be headed in.
