Galaxy Note 5 vs. Galaxy Note 4: 10 Key Differences

Published

on

Earlier this month, Samsung announced brand new flagship devices including a Galaxy Note 4 successor dubbed Galaxy Note 5. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is now the flagship but there’s still a lot to like about last year’s model. Here, we take a look at the notable differences between this year’s model and last year’s.

For a year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 ruled as the company’s flagship Galaxy Note option. Samsung also offered a more expensive curved Galaxy Note Edge but the Galaxy Note 4 was (and still is) the 2014 Galaxy Note model for most smartphone users.

Rumors leading up to Samsung’s Unpacked 2015 event earlier this month hinted at a successor for the Galaxy Note 4 and a new larger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, the device that Samsung released alongside the Galaxy S6 in April. Those rumors were spot on.

On August 13th, Samsung unveiled two brand new devices including the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Both devices went on sale last week and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has quickly become one of the top options for those looking to buy a high-end, big screen smartphone.

The Galaxy Note 5 looks a lot different than the Galaxy Note 4 and it comes with a number of new features that should help buyers distinguish it from previous versions of the phone. Today we want to outline the key differences between these two devices.

These will help you if you’re trying to decide between the two or if you’re looking to replace the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with a new device. Say, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

Storage

Storage

Picking the right storage option is extremely important. Fortunately, both devices come with enough storage for most people.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 only comes in 32GB form but it comes with a microSD card slot that allows you to expand its memory by well over 100GB. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 doesn't come with a microSD card for expandable storage.

Instead, the Galaxy Note 5 features 32GB and 64GB storage options. Oddly enough, there is no 128GB Galaxy Note 5 model for power users. What this means is that Galaxy Note 5 users are stuck with the internal storage and the cloud. For most people this won't be a problem.

Still, you'll want to evaluate your storage needs. Look at your current device and think about how you might use your phone in the future.
