These two phones offer similar yet slightly different designs. That's because both have large screens that take up almost the entire front of the device. However, they'll look completely different for a few reasons. 

Before we talk too much about the design, know that both phones are water-resistant. The Pixel is IP67 and rated for 3ft of water, while the Galaxy Note 8 is IP68 rated for 5ft of water for 30 minutes. 

Both companies went with a long and skinny screen, metal materials, water-resistance and high-end cameras. The differences are the location of the fingerprint scanner, and Samsung's Note 8 houses two cameras on the back. Google is using a single camera but promises results that top Samsung's dual array. The fingerprint scanner is also on the back, but under the camera in an easier to reach spot. 

One thing to keep in mind is the Galaxy Note 8 features wireless charging, but that means the back is also made of glass and is more fragile. The Pixel XL 2 is almost all metal on the back, aside from a small glass window at the top, and doesn't have wireless charging. There is one big difference though, the Pixel 2 XL has slightly larger bezels because it features dual front-facing speakers. Something many owners love. 

Still, both of these phones are impressive.
