Galaxy Note 9 vs Galaxy Note 5: Specs & Features

Another reason we strongly recommend an upgrade is simply for the increase in specs. The Galaxy Note 5 is nearly three years old, and a lot has changed since then. Here's a quick comparison.

Galaxy Note 9 Specs

  • 6.4-inch 2960 x 1440 Quad-HD AMOLED Infinity Display
  • 8-Core Snapdragon 845 Processor
  • 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM (or 512GB storage model)
  • Android 8.1 Oreo with Android 9 coming soon
  • Dual 12 Megapixel Rear f/1.5 aperture cameras, variable aperture, 960 FPS slo-motion, 2X optical zoom, both have OIS, more
  • 8 Megapixel front-facing camera (Selfie mode, portrait photos, AR Emoji)
  • 4,000 mAh battery with fast and wireless charging
  • IP68 Dust & Water-resistance, Stereo Speaker tuned by AKG
  • USB Type-C, Bixby 2.0, Bixby AI, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Heart-rate sensor, Face Unlock, Iris Scanning
  • S-Pen with Bluetooth, New Features, etc

That's quite the list. You'll get a bigger screen, tons of RAM, 4x the storage, lots of power, two sweet new cameras and all-day battery life. Convinced yet? Here's what your Note 5 has.

Galaxy Note 5 Specs

  • 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD AMOLED Display
  • Samsung Exynos processor with 4GB of RAM
  • 32GB storage, no micro-SD slot
  • 16 Megapixel Rear camera with OIS, 5 megapixel front camera
  • 3,000 mAh battery with Fast Charging, Wireless Fast Charging
  • Android 5.1.1 Lollipop & TouchWiz (now on Android 7.0 Nougat)
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • All metal and glass design
  • S-Pen Stylus
  • more

For me, the most exciting aspect of the Galaxy Note 9 is the bigger battery. Even Samsung's 6.2-inch Galaxy S9+ only has a 3,500 mAh battery, and it lasts plenty long. So, packing a massive 4,000 mAh battery in the phone it'll last a lot longer than your old Note 5. Way longer, actually.

Combine that with all the other changes, and the improvements in Android 8.0 Oreo, and you'll get a phone you'll absolutely love. Basically, yes, this is worth the upgrade.

Notes are great, but for me the 2:1 aspect ratio is a killer. Give me a 6.4 inch display at 3:2 (or even 4:3) and I’ll switch from my iPhone faster than a NY minute.
