Galaxy S II Skyrocket Ice Cream Sandwich Update Officially Rolls Out

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket Ice Cream Sandwich update, which became available early through Samsung Kies, is now officially available for all owners of the AT&T smartphone.

AT&T has confirmed to us that the Galaxy S II Skyrocket ICS update is now available through the Samsung Kies software which can be found through Samsung’s website.

The update has rolled out at the same time as the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The Galaxy S II Skyrocket ICS update will bring the device up from Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Google’s current version of software. Its next version of Android, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean won’t roll out until sometime later on this month.

Galaxy S II Skyrocket ICS update has officially rolled out.

It will come with all of the new features found in Android 4.0 including Face Unlock, a new user interface, an updated Browser and more.

Like most major Android updates, it should also come with several bug fixes and enhancements that should make for a better experience on the Galaxy S II Skyrocket.

Updating through Kies is like a manual update so those who own a Galaxy S II Skyrocket should not be on the lookout for an update OTA.

Here is how to upgrade through Kies:

1. Depending on your device, visit eitherwww.samsung.com/us/attskyrocket/update

2. Download and Install the Samsung Kies Upgrade Program  on your PC.

3. Connect your device to your PC and follow the instructions on Samsung Kies to get the update.

After performing these steps, Ice Cream Sandwich should be up and running in no time. And then, the wait for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will begin.

Enjoy Ice Cream Sandwich Galaxy S II Skyrocket owners.

Why is the skyrocket getting j.b. when the T-Mobile galaxy s 2 isn’t because the screen resolution and its a dual core, which it’s been said jelly bean doesn’t run well with dual core phones, but the galaxy nexus is getting jelly bean? This makes no sense.

My phone seems to be freezing up a lot. And I had to delete my Go keyboard because it wouldn’t function, just kept shutting down.
I am not really happy so far. at all!

I did mine yesterday morning after getting a text from AT&T- and it froze while rebooting- bricked. I had to take it to a service center 45min away and luckily they were able re reload the latest gingerbread back on it for me. Beware! The tech said to wait a few weeks and see what ATT says then- he’s heard lots of reports of issues.

I totally feel you on that. I went to kies to just backup my files and it said there was an update available. So i did update and got that stupid firmware problem and couldnt do emergency repair. I had to send my phone out to texas to be fixed so luckily you were able to drive and get it repaired. MIne will be around 2 weeks so hopefully we will see how it plays out. Atleast Samsung customer service was really good.

I just updated a day or 2 ago. It sucks. It refuses to run navigation. Won’t lock on for shit. The keyboard lags alot. The screen is twitchy andlag on home screen icons. The letters here as I’m typing are humbling together. Earlier Facebook app was blurry on ly. On the letters of status updates.. Everything is slow.

I haven’t had a problem with it. It has been 3 days for me and everything is snappy. So far, I am happy with the update. I have noticed a dip in battery though. But, I haven’t tried to look into that yet. It doesn’t bother me… yet.

I just updated it a few hours ago and it’s been fine, there’s just some things that were said to be involved in the update that aren’t.. Like it said the lock screen would be able to do more, but mine is exactly the same.. And also, my apps menu is exactly the same.. I don’t get it. :(

Updated about a week ago and it seemed to be working fine then I started to.noticed that when I took pictures some of them.would not save and I would get errors. Unit is running a lot slow and there is lag time when opening up apps. My email is giving me connection errors that where not present before with the old g.b software. Over all I would rather have the old software back and I hope att will fix there bugs.

I’ve updated my phone to ICS recently and I am not pleased. It has in no way enhanced my user experience.
    Cons:
-My transfer speeds are slower (my pandora skips and will “wait for coverage” if in locked screen)
-My swype moves slower than ever (even with the setting to speed)
-I can’t receive emails (I keep getting “connection error”)

All in all, this has NOT improved anything on my phone. This is also a common experience with numerous forums about how ICS is not working for their skyrocket.

The same thing happened to me, but after tinkering with things a bit I was able to get the Skyrocket to come up running ICS. Essentially you need to do a factory reset on the phone, which will remove your apps, and remove any SD card storage. Once you do that and the phone restarts it will successfully boot ICS.

I had to perform a factory reset also to make everything work properly again. The smal amount of enhancements are not worth the aggravation in my opinion.

I HAVE TRIED THAT RESET AND I AN STILL HAVING EMAIL PROBLEMS. IS THERE ANY EASY WAY THAT I CAN GO BACK TOP GINGERBREAD?

I update my phone and it’s working generally fine but I think the ICS for Skyrocket have problems for example the play store crashes and the icons aren’t from the other ICS version in other phones..

Must I do something to change the icons?? I don’t have any apparience desktop app.

If you have any solution please help me.. How I do uninstall the Att Bloatware.

    Thanks in advise..

Note: my phone is not rooted.

Freezes all the time with ice cream. Must press power off switch for 30 + seconds to reboot. Minor improvements definitely not worth it. I’m surprised they released it with so many bugs. Great phone before upgrade.

Do a factory reset on your phone. All your apps can be recovered from the Play Store although it is a pain to set email, backgrounds, etc. Mine is working great now but you do not get all of the toys like resizable widgets or enhanced funtionality through the lock screen. The new font alone make it worth it though. My screen is now super sharp!

I have 2 skyrockets, one from the release last november and another from about 2-3 months ago, so a newer build.
I upgraded both phones to ICS, The first releaseed skyrocket reboots and crashes non stop after the upgrade. I cant even hardley use it as a smart phone anymore with out terrible issues and constant crashing, the other skyrocket (a white one) which was again, purchased only a couple months ago has taken the upgrade flawlessly. Both phones have the same apps, except the one with no problems has more junk/ crap apps on it, games and what not. I only use the other for work so the apps on it are nothing major. Which makes no sense at all. this is either 1- AT&T’s way of making older phone users be forced to buy a whole new phone, and pay the $600-$700 because there for sure wont be an upgrade option available. Which would not suprise me with they’re efforts to force people off unlimited DATA plans, Or a problem with the compatibility of first builds of the skyrocket and ICS not working together. It would not suprise me at all with all the crap I went through with AT&T and having the unlimited plan on my phone if this is they’re way to force unlimited data users to have to purchase another phone to make up for potentially lost dollars. My newer skyrocket runs on a limited data plan, no issues from upgrade, and my unlimited data plan skyrocket, FUCKED, something is fishy to me.

Heres the kicker, are you skyrocket users with all the problems on a grandfathered unlimited data plan?
its too weird that I just so happen to own 2 of these and only the one on unlimited data is having the crazy crashing issues.

I had to do a restore, with minimum restore, so basically it was a complete restore. And I must tell you the ice is definitely an improvement… I highly recommend it. For anyone who is having issues with functionality, I recommend you do a full restore. Before you do, it would be good to sync the contacts, other things can be installed individually.

Just updated my ATT skyrocket to ICS and it works perfectly. Didn’t lose any data, including my company email program. Phone works faster now and it has improved some of the clunckiness of Gingerbread.

    Very satisfied so far…
