Galaxy S3 & Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Updates Make More Progress

The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates continue to make progress five months after the updates first starting rolling out and just weeks after Samsung started rolling out the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update and confirmed the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update.

Back in October, Samsung revealed that it would be pushing out a trio of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates with Galaxy Gear support, Samsung Knox and a host of other features on board. The beneficiaries of those updates were Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3, and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users.

In late October, Samsung begun pushing out the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. In November, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates arrived and started pushing out to devices around the world. By the end of December, the roll outs in the United States were complete but unfortunately, a number of big time updates lingered behind.

Over the past three and a quarter months, we’ve seen carriers work extremely hard to get their Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates out to Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 users. And for the most part, carriers have accomplished their goals. There are, however, some stragglers that still haven’t rolled out their Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates and we’ve been tracking their progress in the build up to Android 4.3 and eventually Android 4.4 KitKat.

Today, another carrier made progress with its Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates. Vodafone Australia, one of the few carriers that releases weekly Android update schedules, says that its Galaxy S4 (Cat 4) Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is finally available after a number of weeks in the testing labs.

The update, like other Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates before it, delivers  Galaxy Gear support in addition to Samsung Knox. It also comes with bug fixes and “Vodafone customisations.” In other words, it’s a substantial update for those that are touting the Cat 4 version of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Vodafone also says that its long awaited Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is now available. It confirmed its roll out several days ago so the release doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

The carrier also says that it has finally finished testing for its Samsung Galaxy S3 (LTE) Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update and that it’s awaiting final approval for the roll out. It does not provide any kind of timeline which means that we could still be a little ways out from the release date. It’s still not clear.

Once that update pushes out, Vodafone will have completed it Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update roll out for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2. If only other carriers could say the same.

There are still several missing Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates. Australian carrier Optus still owes its users Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates. The carrier says that it approved its Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update and that it will be rolling out in early April. It does not provide a specific date.

The carrier plans to deliver two Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates in mid-to-late April but it still doesn’t provide users with specific roll out dates because the software is still in the lab for testing.

Another Australian carrier, Telstra, still owes its users a Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update, an update that it says will be landing at some point later this month. It still hasn’t confirmed a specific release date nor has it informed users about the testing process. Telstra also still hasn’t redeployed its Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that was halted two weeks ago. It’s not clear when the update will start rolling out again.

This progress comes amidst the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out. The update started pushing out back in February and has been continually pushing for several weeks now. We’re so far along that Vodafone has already confirmed Android 4.4 KitKat updates for its Galaxy S4 models.

In the United States, the Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update remains missing as do updates for smaller carriers including C Spire, MetroPCS and Cricket. The Verizon update still doesn’t have a release date and is weeks behind its rivals who delivered the Android 4.4 update back in March.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is confirmed but it still hasn’t started rolling out. Weeks ago, Samsung USA and Sprint confirmed the update for arrival but did not tag it with a specific release date. Rumors have suggested a roll out in either April or May but we still haven’t seen the update pop up on the radar.

These Australian carriers have not confirmed Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates and they might just be waiting until after they deliver their Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates to do so. Only time will tell.
