Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is fast moving and we’ve seen a number of new details emerge this week for owners of the former flagship. With that in mind, we want to take a look at what you need to know this week about the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release. This mini roundup will get you caught up to speed on the latest Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 developments.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was the first Galaxy smartphone to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade. Samsung’s roll out started all the way back in December and since then, we’ve seen it make a ton of progress in the United States and in regions around the world.

Here in the United States, it’s currently available on a number of carriers including Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and C Spire. AT&T and U.S. Cellular haven’t confirmed release dates yet though AT&T has confirmed plans to release a Galaxy S5 Lollipop update in the future. At this point, it’s a waiting game for AT&T and U.S. Cellular Galaxy S5 users and Galaxy S5 users around the world.

For those of you that don’t follow along on a daily basis, keeping track of Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop movements can be a very difficult task. There is a ton of information out there and that information can change in a heartbeat.

This week alone we’ve seen a number of new developments and it’s our job to keep you in the loop. That’s why we want to take a look at the most important things we think you need to know, this week, about the Galaxy S5 Lollipop release in the United States and elsewhere.

Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update Keeps Pushing Internationally

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update continues to make moves in the international community. In April alone, we’ve seen it roll out to SM-G900M users in Mexico, in in Brazil, in Argentina, and in Uruguay. We’ve also seen the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update for the SM-G900F hit devices in places like the United Kingdom (O2) and Austria. And we’re only three days into the month of April.

It’s clear that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is primed for a big international push in April, four months after the update originally started rolling out. Samsung appears to have worked out the initial kinks (lack of Mute Mode) and the widespread push should continue as we push deeper into the month of April.

Those of you in the international community will want to keep an eye out for the update. Most carriers remain mum in the buildup to their official Android update release dates which means that you may not find out about the upgrade until the day that it arrives. Remember, Samsung’s roll outs are unpredictable and very random so there’s no telling where these updates will head next.

New Sprint Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update

Sprint was one of the first carriers to offer a Galaxy S5 Lollipop update in the United States. Now, the carrier has expanded that roll out to another Galaxy S5 variant on its network.

Earlier this week, Sprint announced that it has begun rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its version of the Galaxy S5 Active, known as the Galaxy S5 Sport. The update brings Android 5.0 and it brings a Reactivation Lock.

It’s important to keep in mind that Sprint’s Android update roll outs often take a week or so to complete. Galaxy S5 Sport users should see the update pop up in the near future though the roll out is going to be extremely unpredictable. Check a few times for the update but no more than that.

Galaxy S5 Release Set to Expand in April

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Lollipop update has started to make progress in the international community and it was only a matter of time before it hit the North America. Sprint isn’t the only one set to deliver a Galaxy S5 Active Lollipop update this month though.

Earlier this week, Canadian carrier Rogers confirmed plans to roll out its Galaxy S5 Active Lollipop update in April. The update, which was confirmed several weeks ago, could roll out at any time. Rogers did not confirm a specific release date for Galaxy S5 Active users and we probably won’t see it confirm an exact date. The update will simply roll out. So keep an eye out.

We haven’t heard anything about the AT&T Galaxy S5 Active Lollipop update though with the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop update still missing in action, it could be awhile before we see it. Regular models typically are the priority.

AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update: What We Expect

AT&T’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is still missing in action though the company continues to confirm its presence on social media. The update is currently undergoing testing behind the scenes.

The testing process can be unpredictable which means that the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date remains pretty unpredictable. That said, this week, we put together a look at what we expect from the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop update and release and we think it will help impatient AT&T Galaxy S5 users set appropriate expectations.

Galaxy S5 Lollipop Problems Continue

While we’ve seen a lot of positive news this week, we’ve also run into some negatives, namely, Galaxy S5 Lollipop problems. Galaxy S5 Lollipop problems continue to plague Galaxy S5 users in the United States and in the international community.

Verizon recently started rolling out a new Galaxy S5 Lollipop update to address some of these issues but its forums continue to fill up with complaints about battery drain, poor performance and other random bugs. And it’s not just Verizon users complaining about lingering issues this week.

While we wait for carriers and Samsung to address these problems, it’s probably a good time to get acquainted with our fixes for common Lollipop problems and our guide to getting better Galaxy S5 battery life after Lollipop.

These fixes are especially important because this week, we heard that Samsung still doesn’t have the Android 5.1 update in development. This doesn’t mean that the update isn’t coming but it means that a release, if there is on, is far off in the distance.

Google’s Android 5.1 update is a massive bug fix update and one that solves a lot of major Lollipop issues. Unfortunately, for now, Galaxy S5 users dealing with Android 5.0 problems will have to rely on third-party fixes. Carriers will almost certainly roll out bug fix updates later this year but their release dates are extremely unpredictable.

Actually there’s only one thing I need to know about the update. I don’t have it yet.

I wish there was I way I could have opted out. Or I wish I had known about it beforehand. Now I have to go through the tedious process of rolling back to KitKat. Oh well – at least I can use this as an opportunity to root.

Lollipop is AWFUL, is what I’m getting at. My biggest problem is battery drain. Used to be at 30% when I went to bed at night, after moderate usage during the day. Now it’s at 15% by lunch…

Things like this make me regret leaving Apple. Apple keeps all of its hardware up to date and releases its updates for ALL of its devices within one month. An iPhone is looking pretty nice right now if you ask me.

Owning myself a iphone 5s and galaxy 5, there’s definitely no comparison about battery drain that occurs on iphone: unable to make 600km round trip using gps only in the last hour without bringing it dow close to 10% on a iphone: Apple definitely overrated. Galaxy will definitely drain that fast.

I personally feel that at&t is doing us a service by delaying the update and testing internally. What with the 49 published items on drippler concerning S5 bugs with lolipop. Just received update, phone works great, but battery drain still
    A big problem.

Has anyone installed the newest update, that started popping up a couple weeks ago, after Lollipop?

I did the Lollipop update, which I absolutely hate, so now I’m afraid to do this new one. Does it fix any of the problems Lollipop caused, such as battery draining, contacts crashing, not enough storage??
