Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update Breakdown (Pt. 2)

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update continues to make progress in the United States and in regions around the world. With that in mind, we want to take a look at what Galaxy S5 users in the US and elsewhere need to know this week about the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update and its release.

In December, a few weeks after the start of Google’s initial push, Samsung delivered its first Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade. The upgrade unsurprisingly went to the Samsung Galaxy S5, the company’s former Galaxy S flagship and a device that arrived with Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat update on board. Android 5.0 Lollipop represents the Galaxy S5’s first major Android update and as such, it delivers a host of changes to the popular smartphone.

In the weeks since the first Galaxy S5 Lollipop update rolled out, we’ve seen updates and information flow. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has made a ton of progress around the world, including here in the United States. There’s a solid foundation, sure, but there is still a long way to go until Samsung completes its Galaxy S5 Lollipop roll out.

With so much going on, we want to breakdown everything we think you need to know about the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop release this week. This breakdown includes a look at the progress the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has made recently and a look at what we know about its future. There is a long road ahead but Samsung is working very hard to get its Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 upgrade out to as many people as possible in as little time as possible.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop Hits Another US Carrier

This week, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update hit another US carrier, just not the one that many people were expecting. C Spire, a regional US carrier, started rolling out the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update earlier this week. The carrier’s website confirmed the news though it also says that the update will take up to five days to reach all of its users.

C Spire didn’t list an extensive change log for its version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 upgrade though it’s expected to mirror the updates that have pushed out for Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and an assortment of other international carriers. That means huge changes including Google’s brand new Material Design.

This roll out means that there are now four Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates available inside the United States. With updates still missing for AT&T, U.S. Cellular, MetroPCS, and others, Samsung still has a long way to go before its roll out is complete in the United States.

AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release Lags

AT&T continues to talk about the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update though it still has nothing to show for it.

The carrier continues to converse with Galaxy S5 users who are extremely interested in the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update’s release. The carrier claims that it’s currently in the testing process though it refuses to confirm a concrete release date. The fact that it’s now talking about the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is a good sign for AT&T Galaxy S5 users though a firm release date would obviously be welcomed.

AT&T’s “rigorous” testing doesn’t mean that the update will be bug-free but the extra time could prove to be beneficial for one of the United States’ biggest Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop updates.

Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update Arrives for More Users

Samsung also continues to make progress for other Galaxy S5 variants.

Earlier this week, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release landed for the Galaxy S5 LTE-A, Samsung’s first smartphone with a Quad HD display and a device that’s limited to a select group of regions around the world. Samsung had promised the Galaxy S5 LTE-A Android 5.0 Lollipop update for early 2015 and the update is right on schedule.

The update is currently rolling out to Galaxy S5 LTE-A users in Korea and it’s rolling out to all three major carriers. Those who own a carrier-bound Galaxy S5 model can now check in the device’s settings for the new firmware.

It also looks like the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus users in Nordic countries. According to SamMobile, Samsung’s rolling out the software to the SM-G901F with a twist. Instead of Android 5.0.1, the Galaxy S5 Plus is getting Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, a newer version of Google’s Lollipop firmware.

Galaxy S5 Lollipop Problems Mount

Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop problems have been a problem for Galaxy S5 users and it appears that they were enough to halt on Galaxy S5 Lollipop release.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has halted two of its Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop roll outs. Samsung Norway has apparently stopped pushing out its Galaxy S5 Lollipop update and its Galaxy S4 Lollipop update due to issues. The bugs have impacted the performance and it appears that Samsung’s gone back to the drawing board in an effort to fix these Lollipop problems.

Android 5.0 Lollipop problems have been a problem for both Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4 users and complaints have ranged from poor performance to awful battery drain after making the move up from Android 4.4 KitKat. While there are temporary fixes out there, many Galaxy users are looking for bug fix updates from Samsung and its carrier partners.

It’s not clear when this update will start rolling out again or if Samsung will do something similar with its other Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates.

Other Carriers Still Silent

Finally, it’s worth noting that we still haven’t seen any more carriers confirm early Galaxy S5 Lollipop release details. US carriers typically don’t confirm early Galaxy Android update release details but international carriers typically do. That’s why its been a bit strange to see carriers like Vodafone Australia and Optus fail to confirm Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates, especially now that it has made a ton of progress.

There is still a long way to go before the month of March ends and there’s a good chance that we’ll see Samsung’s Galaxy S5 updates (regular, LTE-A, Active, etc) hit more devices and regions.

You don’t want this update! It has screwed up my phone and it completely sucks!! Contacts crash, phone freezes, music player turns on for no reason, phone is slower and batter life has decreased. It locks up constantly now!!! Do not install this update if you don’t have to!!

To All – Don’t download this update. It completely shredded my flawlessly working Galaxy s5. Everything that can go wrong has with lollipop and then some. Not too mention this update looks awful, has random solutions for problems that never existed before like “interuptions”, and looks and acts like an unfinished build. The best part is Verizon won’t stand behind the update and replace the phone even after hours and days with countless “top tier / level 1” tech support to figure out what went wrong.

Get ready to feel like the phone you had about 5+ years ago.

You DO NOT want to update to this yet. I have the Galaxy S5 for Verizon and I updated to lollipop about 2 weeks ago. Let me just say it was the worst decision ever. There are TONS of bugs. My phone is much slower, laggier, contacts randomly crashes, sim card is unreadable sometimes, heating issues, epic battery drainage, and random restarts. I’m just naming a few bugs here. It’s best to hold off on this update until Samsung gets their shit together.

Lollipop 5.0 is JUNK! Why on earth roll out something to the public with so many bugs. Somebody needs to get their shit together and fix this or I will promptly move to an IPhone and leave my problems with the entire android platfor behind for good

If you have the Galaxy S5…DON’T DO THE UPDATE! This update makes me want to slam my phone on the ground. It eats up battery life, freezes, causes all your apps to open a lot slower and overall performance is slow, too. I did the factory reset, which is a pain in itself, and most things are working now but the battery life is so bad that I have to charge it up at some point in the day. No way will it last all day…LIKE IT USED TO. I sure hope they come up with a fix real soon. This is definitely making me think about which phone will be my next one. Samsung, I’m really disappointed in you.

Do not do the update! I had perfectly fine S5 and this update messed up many things and my Samsung smart watch no longer works properly with this software. Battery drains twice as fast as it used to be, phone freezes, sometimes I cannot even respond to calls.
It is a shame that reputable brands like Samsung do not test before releasing this kind of major software update. Very disappointing.

This update has royally screwed my perfectly working gs5. Give back kit lay to us! This new update looks worse, performs worse and turns your once great phone into a complete turd. I’m ready to throw my phone in the garbage!

    F**K you Samsung!

DO NOT UPDATE TO LOLLIPOP 5.0 ON GALAXY S5

Worst Smartphone decision I ever made… my once PERFECT GALAXY S5 took a dive off the deep end Shortly after updating to Lollipop.

I’ve researched for weeks and found that a Factory Reset, Disabling “Always Scan for Wifi”, Clearing Cache Partition, Disable S Health, and disabling virtually all Bloatware and apps I do not use was the best “bandaid fix” I could come up with.

But it’s just that a Bandaid with a wound still bleeding undernearth. Some days I’ll get AMAZING battery life, other days I wake up to find its dying more than twice as fast as usual.

Atleast the steps I mentioned above fixed my Battery from dying super fast ALL THE TIME to only dying fast on some days. The fact that the Factory Reset didn’t permanently fix my battery issue is ridiculous.

SAMSUNG I HOPE YOU READ THIS, because upon purchasing my first S3 I was a huge Samsung fan, and after purchasing S5 with 4.4kitkat I was ready to be a LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR LIFE.

But after all this BS I’ll never buy a Samsung Product again, and I will share my stories and experiences with every smartphone user I’ve ever met.

Congratulations Samsung on shooting yourself in the foot. Keep this up and you can kiss your Mobile market goodbye.

I updated to the new 5.0 as well and experienced the same issues everyone else did. Had to reinstall kitkat. Better now.

Any time an update has come along for my Galaxy phones in the past, it’s always proven to be an improvement.
    Until now…
How could this have been released?

    Lollipop is utter garbage!

1.) If I unplug my phone and just check my notifications my battery instantly drains to 95% do anything else and I am down to 89 or below. That battery life SUCKS

2.) I HATE the change to the messages. Previously on kitkat I had it sent that the notification icon would show up on the lock screen with the blinking light, while open it would only pop up and say the person’s name who messaged me. Now however I don’t have any of those privacy settings while my screen is open, I don’t want my friends private messages on display if I feel like showing someone a video. Utterly ridiculous.

3.) My phone is so incredibly slow now and honestly I feel like switching to a whole other device and forgetting Android all together.

These matters need to be heard and taken into account! I loved my phone previously but now I just want to put my phone down to collect dust.

    Android please fix it!!!!!!!
