Galaxy S8+ vs Galaxy S9+: Camera

The biggest change both physically and overall comes to the camera. Or should we say camera(s). The new Galaxy S9+ ditched the "DualPixel" camera Samsung has used since 2016 and replaced it with an all-new 12MP variable aperture camera. On top of that, there are two of them. Yes, the Galaxy S9+ has two cameras on the back, just like the iPhone X.

The smaller Galaxy S9 did not get this same luxury. Making the bigger phone the obvious choice for potential buyers or someone looking to upgrade.

So what makes the S9+ camera so great? A brand new variable aperture sensor. Not only does it go down to f/1.5 aperture (better than the S8+ f/1.7) but when needed, it can jump up to f/2.4 aperture for the best possible photo in any situation. No other smartphone on the market does this.

Basically, just like how the human eye adapts when you go in a dark room, or walk out on a sunny day (getting bigger or smaller to let more/less light in) Samsung's Galaxy S9+ camera does the same.

Then, you have a second 2x optical zoom lens for close-up photos and improved photography. That's on top of new Portrait mode photography modes, live focus and bokeh filters, and a sweet new 960 FPS slow-motion recording more.

Basically, the Galaxy S9+ will be Samsung's best smartphone camera to date. If photography is important, this is the phone to buy.
