Galaxy S9 vs Pixel 2 XL: Camera(s)

Here's where things get interesting. Samsung is one of the best in the camera department, but in 2017 Google really shook things up. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL received the best smartphone camera score EVER, from independent reviews online.

Well, until the Galaxy S9 arrived in February, and beat its score.

Simply put, these two phones have the best cameras on the market.

For one, Samsung's Galaxy S9 and S9+ have a variable aperture camera that physically changes. Just like the human eye the S9 camera adapts to any scene. It gets wider, an f/1.5 aperture in low light, just like human eye adjust to the darkness. Then, outdoors in the sunlight it changes too, for the best possible photo whenever.

Oh, and then the Galaxy S9+ has two cameras. One of which does 2x optical zoom for close-ups, and 960 FPS slow motion videos.  As a comparison, Google's Pixel 2 XL is 12MP and f/1.8 aperture.

It's all pretty technical, but just know the camera can change on the fly to take the best photo. In a world where all other phone cameras are stuck in a single operation mode. On the flipside, Google uses AI and machine learning to take amazing HDR photos that capture tons of light without two lenses or changing apertures. It captures multiple photos and puts them together automatically.

This will be a close battle we can't wait to watch unfold. If you want a good camera, these are absolutely the best two when it comes to Android smartphones.
