Gaming on the HP Pavilion dv2 Ultraportable

Published

on

I tried playing Call of Duty: World at War on the HP Pavilion dv2 review unit AMD sent over and recorded a video so you could see what the new AMD Yukon platform is capable of. HP is billing the dv2 as an entertainment ultraportable and it certainly excels at video playback and graphics-intensive applications thanks to its dedicated graphics.

The Pavilion dv2 I received came with an external Blu-ray disc and it plays back movies flawelssly, as long as you aren’t actively running other applications at the same time. It’s able to provide a relatively rich multimedia experience, despite having a low-power AMD Athlon Neo processor, because it has ATI Mobility Radeon HD3410 discrete graphics, with 512MB of VRAM.

Battery performace isn’t great, but this relatively affordable notebook offers a lot more in the entertainment department than other affordable 12-inchers.

The dv2 is only available in one configuration for $749.99 right now, but we expect to see models in the $500 to $600 range in the coming months.

I think that’s really nice for someone always on the move (a bit nerdy) that would like to relax for an hour by playing a game a watching a movie. I must admit I haven’t tried yet to load a game on my X200t , but from what I can see with Photoshop, I bet it could also run games with the quality tuned down a bit. I’ll try it for sure after my exams.
