Google’s Chrome Browser Comes Out of Beta

Published

on

Google has just released the “official” version of their Chrome browser, removing the beta tag.

From the Google blog:

We have removed the beta label as our goals for stability and performance have been met but our work is far from done. We are working to add some common browser features such as form autofill and RSS support in the near future. We are also developing an extensions platform along with support for Mac and Linux. If you are already using Google Chrome, the update system ensures that you get the latest bug fixes and security patches, so you will get the newest version automatically in the next few days. If you haven’t used Google Chrome for a while, now might be a good time to give it another spin.

Download Google Chrome and try it out.

There is still no official way to turn greasemonkey on, but it is there. You have tack -enable-greasemonkey after the last quotation mark in the Target line in the Chrome shortcut’s Properties box (that is “space dash enable dash greasemonkey”). You can copy your scripts from the scripts folder in Firefox (C:/programs/Mozilla/Firefox/scripts) to C:/scripts (make the folder first), and you are good to go!

What! A Google product that’s NOT in Beta?

Seriously though, might give it another whirl but at the moment I see no compelling reason to change from Firefox.

Yea, i still don’t see webpage zooming working correctly, and no other way to combat the many poorly designed websites with tiny fonts.

haha. i share Gavin’s shock. maybe google should bring gmail out of beta. it IS ok to make improvements to a product that isn’t beta, google.

It’d be interesting if they supported firefox plugins. For example, vertical hierarchical tabs and visual search-able switching.

Needs to have tip support! The address bar works fine on xp but no response on websites.
