Google Promises Firmware Update for Nexus S to Fix Many Problems

Published

on

It looks like making calls isn’t the only problem that’s plaguing the flagship Google Nexus S Android smartphone. According to various users on mobile help problems, the handset is also experiencing data loss problems, which will require a full reboot to regain data signal and connectivity. Also on the list is random reboots, especially in the middle of a call. The good news is that Google has reached out to Engadget and promises that n update is forthcoming: “All of the issues described in the post are resolved and will be fixed with an OTA that will go out soon.”

Are you an early adopter of the Nexus S? How satisfied are you with your experience?

The Nexus S is pegged as a developer phone and is a partnership between Google and Samsung to create the reference hardware that may spur adoption and innovation of new features in the Android ecosystem. The handset is the first Android smartphone to support the NFC capabilities and represents Google’s vision for the development of the Android platform. However, there isn’t really too much difference between the Nexus S and the Galaxy S smartphone, except that the Nexus S has an unadulterated build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, sans Samsung’s custom TouchWiz skin. That said, newer smartphones have since been introduced that best the specs on the Nexus S, including a dual-core CPU, higher resolution screen, and more memory.

Only one random reboot for me, no signal loss or dropped calls. I sold my Nexus One and left ATT for this phone and I have not looked back since. I could not make calls inside my house with my ATT Nexus One for over 6 months, I even purchased an ATT Femtocell which was great, except if you left the house while on a call it would get dropped, and if i cam home while on a call it would get dropped. Plus why should I have to buy extra hardware t o make my phone work on ATT’s network.

Tmobile has been great, no dropped calls, excellent service and for $110 a month I have unlimited calls data and text to the US and Canada.

      LMAO $110?

I’m in Toronto and getting unlimited calling, unlimited texting & unlimited data (plus voicemail and all that standard stuff) for $46 (tax included) per month. You’re getting ripped off.

Other carriers are offering the same service for even less ($29.99 per month at Mobilicity) but their networks are still a bit small because they’re kinda new. Nonetheless, lots of people are really happy with the service.

Izabela, maybe that is good for Toronto, but in the States my plan is actually very inexpensive. As I am from Toronto and now live here I am aware of some good deals up there. The only problem is most Canadian carriers are actually ripping you in the end if you chalk up all the services. Fido for example is only $35 per month! Sounds good but in the end once you add all of the features they charge .35 cents a minute for long distance or an additional $30 per month for unlimited to North America. Fido charges a US Data roaming fee of $1 per megabyte. Fido also only offers a 500 mb data plan for an extra $25 pe rmpnth. So it adds up with most discount carriers in Canada. I would be very surprised if you were really getting a good deal like you say. Please show us the carrier and the numbers.

That is not true. There are no such plans (unlimited) for $46. Rogers which is one of the biggest carriers offers higher prices than any provider in U.S. Typically competition lowers price and since there are more providers in U.S. than Canada, cell phone pricing has always been lower in U.S. Apples and apples compared.

You are full of it. They dont even have an unlimited plan in Rogers. They have unlimited text, internet, not unlimited minutes. To see their plans, go to https://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=WLRS_Plans

the reactions under comments are just re-twitting this article, thats stupid.
anyways, my nexus s does all that, i mean occasional drop calls and data, once restarted during a call, also recently during a call phone just got stuck. Touch was also not responsive few times.
Given all the this, nexus is the best out there. i love it and will be waitin on google to pass that OTA.

My nexus s sucks! And its my second one. Can’t be on a phone longer than 5 mins as it reboors, it looses data, reboots after i want to hang up the phone, reboots 5mins into streaming pandora radio…. it is just sad $500 POS phone. I had nexus one before and it was amazing phone… with this crap im affraid to call anything important as i know it will reboot and i have to call agai… god forbid i have to call customer service for something… gotta use payphone for that. And this is googles flagship! HA! Its a JOKE!

I’m gettings sick of the issues all previously mentioned which affect my Nexus S also. For the money this cost it should be 100% from day one!! I would never have considered an Iphone because of all the restrictive practices but it’s getting to the stage where I have no faith in Google to get this right quickly and there is no other competition!!!

Hmm…My nexus s has a huge list of issues, i now regret getting the phone.  Its almost as if the phone wasnt fully tested before getting rushed to the market.
Most annoying problem is the Voice seach feature keeps poping up all the time, its making the phone unusable.
    When is this fix coming?
