GTA 5 PS4 vs PS3 Video Shows A Huge Reason to Upgrade

Published

on

The GTA 5 PS4 release is still months away, but a new video shows just how much better the GTA 5 PS4 version will look than the PS3 game that arrived in late 2013. The difference is stunning, and anyone that wants to see a new look for GTA 5 will not be disappointed.

A GTA 5 PS4 vs PS3 video compares the announcement trailer from E3 2014 with scenes from the GTA 5 PS3 release last fall to show how much better Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online will look this fall on the PS4. This should also show how much better the Xbox One GTA 5 release will look than on the Xbox 360, although this footage is from a PS4.

Rockstar needs to convince a lot of gamers to buy GTA 5 a second time, months after the original release. Combined with constant GTA Online updates, this visual overhaul goes a long way to convincing gamers that the PS4 GTA 5 game is worth an upgrade.

GTA 5 PS4 vs PS3 Video

The five-minute PS4 GTA 5 vs PS3 video above compares scenes from the GTA 5 trailer announced in early June at E3 2014. This was recorded using a PS4, but it does not show a lot of actual gameplay, so there is still some things that we need to see before we know just how good the actual gameplay will look. Even with the footage show, it looks like gamers are in for a treat.

Digital Foundry took the footage Rockstar Games published and combined it PS3 footage shared by GTA Series Videos to splice together this comparison. Here is a brief summary of what you should look at in the GTA 5 PS4 vs PS3 video.

Overall every scene includes vastly more detail. From the mountains and woods in the opening scenes to the refinery and city scape there is more detail to be enjoyed. In the night scenes shown, an empty street becomes full of traffic with headlights that look significantly more realistic.

  • Better lighting effects
  • More realistic water
  • More vegetation in woods
  • Detailed vehicles
  • More detailed characters and clothing
  • Better looking buildings
  • Smoke, Fog and Smog look more realistic.

You have to watch the video to see the difference between GTA 5 on PS4 and on the PS3. Make sure to watch it in HD for the full effect.

There is no official PS4 GTA 5 release date set, but it is coming later this year in time for the holiday shopping season. Rockstar and others are already taking pre-orders for the updated game. The release includes a Xbox One and a PC version of GTA 5, which should arrive at the same time.

Amazon sells the Xbox One GTA 5, PC GTA 5 and PS4 GTA 5 for $59.96. Microsoft is already running a promotion to offer $10 off GTA 5 for Xbox One when you pre-order the game. The discount is a Xbox code for $10, but it is still a deal. Best Buy is also taking pre-orders and may include a $10 reward zone gift certificate as the release approaches.

There is no official upgrade method to let Xbox 360 and PS3 users upgrade at a cheaper price. It is possible that GameStop and other retailers will offer something later this year. Rockstar Games will allow users to upgrade their character to Xbox One, PS4 or PC, so there is no need to start over with the GTA Online experience.

I’m not convinced on buying gta v for ps4 since I have to pay £55 for a game I already own on current gen, and R* thinks its worth £55 for a upgraded version of their game when it should be worth at least £30-£35

The better graphics itself is a sell, not to mention new stuff. They should remake a bunch of games for ps4, but I do hope they won’t charge full-price, like this.
