Hanvon Touchpad Consumer Slate on Video

Published

on

Hanvon’s Touchpad is now available in Europe for just under $1,000. Of course some Apple fanboys are already calling the Hanvon device an iPad ripoff, but we first saw a prototype of the Touchpad a year ago at IDF 2009, well before the iPad was announced.

The Hanvon Touchpad B10 ships with Windows 7 Home Premium and comes with a 1.3GHz Intel Celeron ULV processor, 250GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM. It has a full compliment of ports, including HDMI.

It looks nice. Frankly, I want a tablet with Windows 7. I’m sick of worthless Apps on iPhone, iPad and Android. When I get into computers, I want a real operating system.

I wouldn’t get this one though because it has to have Wacom. I’m hoping someone brings a good one. I look forward to seeing what HP comes up with.

There are a couple of really promising Windows 7 slates that I have my eye on. I’ve also been staring down the Lenovo S10-3T. Lenovo is said to be updating the S10 netbook in September with N550 dual core processor. So I’m wondering if they might do a refresh of the S10-3T. Beyond CPU, there are a few tweaks to the S10-3T hardware that would really make me jump for it. Namely Ion2 chipset with HDMI port, non-white chiclet keyboard, eliminate the plastic SD cover, eliminate lcd bezel and pretty please..some storage for capacitive stylus.

Where oh where the !?*&!@ is WACOM’s marketing department during all the new tablet hardware releases?

I feel that unless they pull out all the stops at this point, active digitizer pen technology in this important arena will suffer greatly.

It’s always a chore to find out if a tablet has an active penabled digitizer or not.

    Ntrig? Wacom? Anyone?
    Tap tap tap..
    is this thing on??
    ..Bueller?

If you don’t see a stylus… they blew it.

For what it’s worth, the Hanvon tablet has gotten good comments from folks who’ve had a chance to test early units. My understanding is that one Hanvon model features touch input, and one features pen input… Possibly the B10 and B20 (respectively) referred to above. I don’t know if the B20 also features touch input, but given what I’ve heard, it likely doesn’t.

Other than the Hanvon (and possibly the HP slate) another tablet to keep an eye on is the ExoPC. I’ll be very interested to see how that one looks, assuming that it makes it to market…

Steve, i think the B20 supports touch and pen input though the specs are pretty low compared to the B10.

I asked their German sales dep for more info.

I agree with most, the FIRST thing I look for is mention of writing capability with included or recommended stylus.

Windows 7 is great, just need it in a portable hardware device, love my 2008 Toshiba Portege M200 UK model, just that much too heavy for prolonged use standing up, and too big for cattle class trays in flights.
