Available now for iPhone and Android users, Skype Highlights let you post funny photos or talk about your mood with your friends quickly. You capture a photo of yourself or someone else, then add some text, paint and stickers. There’s no messaging involved, so you don’t need to wait for them to respond directly. Also, there’s no Skype call to return or voice mail for them to listen to.

All told, Skype Highlights are like Instagram and Snapchat. They are a very fast way to let everyone know what’s going on and what you’re doing. Here’s how to make Skype Highlights.

How to Make Skype Highlights

You must have a smartphone running the latest version of Skype and a decent camera to make Skype Highlights.

Start by downloading the Skype app from the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store. Then, log into the app with the same Microsoft Account username and password that you use on your Windows PC, Outlook.com email or Xbox One.

Now, tap the plus icon in the top-left corner of your screen.

Inside the pop-up menu, tap on New Highlight.

Skype needs to get your permission to access your smartphone’s pictures, music and files. Tap on Allow if you’re ok with that. You can’t make Skype Highlights unless you agree.

Now, take a picture of what you’d like share with other people in your Skype Highlight. You can use the photo browser along the bottom of your screen to turn any picture you have in your phone’s gallery into a Skype Highlight.

Tap the paint brush in the top-right corner of your screen to doodle on your Skype Highlight with your finger. Slide your finger along the left edge of your display to adjust your paint color.

Like Snapchat and Instagram, Skype lets you fill your Skype Highlights with stickers. You can use as much or as little of these stickers in your Skype Highlight as possible. They aren’t required to share your Skype Highlight with other people. Tap the smiley face at the top of your screen to add a sticker.

Tap on the A at the top of your screen to add text.

Once you’re all done adding things to your photo, tap the colored My Highlights button in the bottom-right corner of your screen. This will share your Skype Highlight with other people.

How to See Your Friend’s Skype Highlights

Look for your friends’ Skype Highlights by tapping on the word Highlights when you first open Skype. It’s the panel to the left of your recent chats. As with Twitter or Facebook, you won’t see anything in your Skype Highlights feed unless you follow people – even if you already have their Skype information for calling and messaging.

Tap the Follow People button.

Now use the Search bar at the top of your screen to look for friends that you’d like to add to your Skype Highlights feed. Unlike Twitter, you can’t follow someone’s Skype Highlights Feed without their permission, so you must wait for them to approve your follow request.

Your Skype Highlights Feed should look like the feed below once you’ve followed a few friends that make Skype Highlights regularly.
