How to Turn on 4K Video on the iPhone 6s

The iPhone 6s supports a new 4K video format that lets you record videos in a higher resolution than the 1080P HD you are used to recording on your iPhone.

Using the iPhone 6s 4K video option will fill up your iPhone fast, with roughly 375MB per minute you record. If you own the 16GB iPhone 6s you may not want to use this option.

Here’s how you can turn on 4K recording on your iPhone 6s. If you do not take these steps you will only record in 1080P 30 frames per second.

How to Turn on 4K Video on the iPhone 6s

 

1. Go to Settings on your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus.
2. Tap on Photos & Cameras. This is halfway down the screen.
   
3. Tap on Record Video at the bottom of the screen.
4. Tap on 4K HD at 30 fps to turn this on.

If you want to turn off 4K video you can repeat this process. Most users who don’t need 4K will choose 1080P at 30 fps or 1080P at 60fps.

When you are in the camera app, you will now see a 4 K icon in the right corner to let you know that you are recording 4K videos.

You can edit 4K video on the iPhone using iMovie. If you need to upload to YouTube, Vimeo or other services, you will need to verify that you can upload at 4K resolution. Some apps and services only support 1080P uploads.
