How to Use Multitasking on the HTC One

Published

on

HTC One multitasking isn’t as obvious as some Android devices, but with a quick double tap you’ll have acces to all your apps.

By most accounts, the HTC One is an amazing device that blends best-of materials with some of the latest software improvements using HTC’s newly revamped Sense 5 user interface. While the user interface and hardware allow you to do things like checking for your latest social media updates and news headlines easily, HTC did take a step back in one specific area when it comes to usability. That would be the lack of an actual multitasking button, as in the case of the LG Nexus 4, or the Home button. The Home button is used as a multitasking button on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 is on the far right side of the device. Whatever the reason, some users just find that multitasking on the HTC One is a hassle.

On other Android devices with physical buttons or software buttons, users are able to tap the Menu key to display all the applications that are running. This is especially useful since applications can drain battery life and sometimes slow down applications that you wish to run.

Here’s how to use multitasking on the HTC One to manage the amount of applications your device has open at one time.

From the home screen or any application, tap the Home button twice. It is located on the right hand side of the device just below the screen. You’ll have to tap the buttons fairly quickly in succession to activate the feature. In our experience the two taps will need to happen within two seconds of each other.

You can now see the small representations of the last nine applications that have run on your HTC one. Simply tap any application to instantly reopen them

Keep your finger on an application and drag it to the top of the screen to close an application. This will help save battery life and keep your device opening and running applications at top speed.

Following the update to Android 4.2 that is rolling out to Android devices over time, users will be able to customize how they trigger multitasking using the settings menu on their device. This customization will include the option to choose between double tapping on Menu key and holding down the Home key.

Currently, no HTC One devices ship with Android 4.2 in the United States.

No need to drag to close just touch the app representation of any of those open and flick up. You can close all 9 in 15 seconds.
