HTC Desire S Ice Cream Sandwich Update Rolling Out “Soon”

Published

on

Earlier this month, HTC said that the HTC Desire S Ice Cream Sandwich update would be rolling out in August. Thus far though, the update is now available. However, the company is telling HTC Desire S owners that the update will become available soon through its HTCDev website.

HTC is telling inquiring HTC Desire S owners that the HTC Desire S update, which was promised by the end of August, will be made available in RUU form on HTC’s HTCDev.com website in the near future.

The company remains mum on a specific release date for the ROM Upgrade Utility though we imagine that it will be made available in the coming days.

HTC says the HTC Desire S ICS update will be made available soon.

HTC says to stay tuned for more details so again, we imagine that the company will be making some sort of announcement regarding the software in the relatively near future.

Because HTC is not saying when it will release the software, and with less than 48 hours remaining in August, it’s possible that it will completely miss the August deadline. We saw it happen before with the HTC Rezound Ice Cream Sandwich update and it’s clear that HTC doesn’t have a problem blowing past upgrade deadlines.

At the very least, this is confirmation that the update is still coming, something that should help to ease the minds of HTC Desire S owners who may be wondering if the update is ever coming.

Desire S owners got a bit of a scare last month when HTC abruptly canceled the ICS update for the HTC Desire HD. After promising Android 4.0 for both the Desire HD and Desire S, HTC decided to cancel the ICS update for the Desire HD for several reasons including its bad performance and because the update would have forced device owners to reset their device.

HTC had originally promised the Desire S ICS update for a date between the months of June and August and it’s still possible that it could keep its word.

We’ll find out tomorrow.

I don’t know if you guys saw but the RUU went up briefly before being taken down and is available a few places online. Not sure what caused them to jump the gun, or to take it back down, but certainly seems like it’s close.

Hello everyone! Someone tried to upgrade using RUU? How is it going? RUU is inclusive of HTC Sense 4.0?

Hi there, I updated on RUU. Was very simple. i picked the WWE (world wide english version). I set up HTC on a PC (normally use mac but it says to do it on PC) Downloaded the RUU. It comes with a PDF with step by step. took about 10 mins to update. Make sure you back up your contacts etc. Also i would remove the SD card while updating as i had to reformat mine to get it to work again but that was the only hiccup.

Phone is running so much faster and smoother. cameras better. messages are better, has face unlock also. It is on sense 3.6.

Highly recommend you update the phone just runs so much faster. i now have 280mb of free ram.. on gingerbread i had 120mb. big difference. Thanks HTC worth the wait.

Ijaz shahid here from Lahore Pakistan. I updated my HTC desire s ics successfully.I first time ever update any mobile is manually becuz its so simple and easy.ruu is very simple process. just read PDF file given with ruu and go on.
after updating my mobile runs very smoothly and very fast. here are something that I notice after ics update.
touch interface is smoother than before.
face unlock works amazingly (I like mostly)
setting Manu is very user friendly. same types of settings are near to each other.
sense 3.6 is much better and beautiful than3.0 .
    camera setting options are enhanced.
notification bar is now in black color to use less battery power and it also feels better.
internet browser is also faster than before(little more)

actually there are 100 of features that u will find after update.

it is 100% official update so don’t worry to update just do it.

There is an issue (though a small one) with internet linking from messages. When trying to connect to an internet link in Whatsapp, the app closes. In SMSes, the links don’t work.
