HTC HD7 Unboxing and Hardware Quick Look

Published

on

I broke down today and purchased the HTC HD7 and did a quick unboxing and hardware tour to share. I will be posting a couple more videos this weekend as well. The HTC HD7 officially goes on sale on Monday and will cost $600 (no contract price) or $199 on contract after a $200 instant discount and $50 mail in rebate.

The hardware thus far is awesome, but what do you expect after the HD2? I am still setting up the device to my liking and getting applications installed. I plan to use it as a daily driver for a few days, but I also grabbed a MyTouch 4G today, so I have to give it a spin. I am still working on a review of the Samsung Transform too. It’s going to be a busy month.

I only have a couple complaints so far, but like I said, it’s early. Way to early to pass any real judgment. Here are my complaints:

  • Keyboard. This isn’t a real knock on the OS or HTC, it’s more of a personal preference. I much prefer the iPhone keyboard and Android keyboards (regular and Swype).
  • One software quirk that I didn’t like was during my 1st time in the Marketplace. I did a search for an app that wasn’t there, but there were dozens of songs and artist suggestions. I think they need to keep apps and music/videos in separate stores.
  • Cut and Paste! Apparently I use cut and paste more than I thought. I set up the MyTouch 4G in like 3-4 minutes by cutting my email address and pasting it to Twitter, Foursquare, email, facebook, etc. With the HTC HD7, it took me much longer to tap out my email address 4-7 times.
  • I don’t like how the info at the top of the device goes away. I am referring to the signal bars, connection type, and battery meter. You can wake that info up by tapping on the bar, but I would prefer that info to be contant.
  • Xbox Live integration. It’s kind of neat, but too much of the functionality forces Internet Explorer to open to display info in the browser instead of the data being imported into the hub.

I know some of this is trivial, but I am just documenting all that I like and don’t like for my review of the HD7. I will not be doing a review of the OS in general though.

Thanks for the peek! It certainly looks like some stylish hardware! :) I am seriously considering taking T-Mobile for a spin just so I can try it out… quirks and all, I think this will fit my usage habits better than my EVO (which is excellent, but Android’s lack of multiple Exchange accounts really limits me).
