HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat Update Release Dates Not Created Equal

Published

The HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update, which is slated to arrive in the United States by the end of January, won’t be landing in January for everyone as one carrier has confirmed the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update for the month of February.

Shortly after the Android 4.4 KitKat update announcement on Halloween, HTC confirmed ambitious plans for its HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update roll out. The company stated that it would roll out an Android 4.4 KitKat update for the HTC One Google Play Edition within 15 days. It said that an HTC One Developer Edition update would land within 30 days and that a regular HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update would hit before the end of January in the U.S. Canada and the United Kingdom also confirmed updates for January as well.

Needless to say, most HTC One owners around the world have begun to expect the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update this month. Unfortunately, thanks to a recent confirmation, it looks like some users are going to be waiting until next month.

French carrier SFR says that it plans to finish the validation process in late January and that it plans to roll out its HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update during the month of February. The schedule is tentative but it is confirmation that at least some carriers will wait until next month before rolling the update out.

It’s not clear what the update will bring though we know that in the United States, the update will not only bring the new Sense 5.5 but also Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the latest version of the software. That software has been confirmed for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon, all of which are expected to get the software before the end of January.

The HTC One update will be just one of many Android 4.4 KitKat updates that HTC rolls out. The HTC One Max, HTC One mini, Droid DNA, and HTC Butterfly S will all receive upgrades to Android 4.4. Devices like the HTC One X and HTC One X+ aren’t likely to receive Android 4.4 and will likely remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

HTC’s release of its One Max phone has also failed to halt a nine-quarter slide in sales as China’s Lenovo Group Ltd. (LNVGY) and Huawei Technologies Co. continue to gain market share. https://bit.ly/19N1wOm
