HTC One X+ Android 5.0 Update Remains Possible

In just a few weeks time, Google is rumored to be announcing a new version of Android, thought to be Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. And while information is scarce, particularly when it comes to which devices will get it, one leakster has been pushing information to the surface in regards to HTC devices and today, the HTC One X+ Android 5.0 update, which seemed to be in limbo, received some good news.

In May, Google will kick off its Google I/O conference for developers, hosting workshops and events for those involved with Android, Chrome and more. However, the company also typically announces new products, last year it was the Nexus 7 and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This year, rumors are swirling and thus far, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie seems to be at the top of the rumor list for this year’s conference.

Doubt had been cast on the HTC One X+ Android 5.0 update but it appears that an upgrade is still possible.

Doubt had been cast on the HTC One X+ Android 5.0 update but it appears that an upgrade is still possible.

The update remains secretive and there are rumors that it may not even arrive at Google I/O. But that doesn’t mean that we haven’t heard some whispers about the upcoming update and in particular, about some of the devices that may or may not be getting it.

In the past, we’ve heard that the Samsung Galaxy S3, at least in the U.S., may be left out to dry thanks to Android 5.0 requiring a quad-core processor. We’ve also heard that the HTC One X won’t be getting Android 5.0 and that it will be staying on Android 4.2.2. We’ve also heard that the HTC One X+ Android 5.0 update is, at the very least, in limbo. The latter two bits of information have come from HTC leakster and developer @LLabTooFeR who has been spot on with much of his information in regards to HTC Android updates.

Today, he has offered up a little more information in regards to the possibility of an HTC One X+ Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update and instead of ruling it out completely, like he has with the HTC One X Key Lime Pie update, he says that because Android 5.0 hasn’t been announced, he can’t be 100% sure about it not coming to the HTC One X+. In the past he said that he didn’t think it would get it.

He also says that he does not know for sure whether it will be getting it or not, far different language than he used with the HTC One X’s update. So while he seems certain about the fate of the HTC One X, the HTC One X+ is a different story.

Keep in mind, he is not HTC and software updates can change in a heartbeat. However, he has a solid track record and we know that if Android 5.0 is indeed coming next month, that companies like HTC and Samsung already have information on it, information that certainly could trickle down to unwanted eyes.

So at this point, owners of the HTC One X+ can rest a little easier knowing that maybe the biggest leakster of HTC update information is still unsure about updates beyond Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

I was the one to originally ask the Llabtoofer if the One X+ will get Android 5, but with this response it seems like likely that when he replied with “I don’t think so…” it may have been in answer to the second question. Besides, there already is and there probably will be a massive uproar of angry HTC users when Android 5 is released, meaning that HTC may have to do something. But it’s all open for speculation, really.
