HTC ThunderBolt Gingerbread Update Suffers A Setback

Published

on

Last we heard from the HTC ThunderBolt Gingerbread update, it had missed its rumored June 30th release date. Things have been pretty much dead in terms of news for the update and it appears that there is a good reason for that. An HTC rep has confirmed to a ThunderBolt owner that the update has been pulled back due to issues and that there is no estimated time frame for those issues to be resolved. In other words, the update has been delayed and it might be awhile before we see it roll out. For those of you curious, here is what the HTC rep said about the update.

HTC ThunderBolt

Dear Shannon xxxxx

I understand how important it is to have the latest update for your device. Unfortunately, it is the latest update to 2.3 that is creating this to happen. HTC has pulled back this update to keep future customers from receiving the update. We are working on getting this update fixed, when the update is relaunched you will receive a notification on your device. Unfortunately, there is no estimated time frame on when this issue will be resolved. Shannon, we do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number 11USCW30ENA002669.

Now, before you get too heated, remember this. HTC and Verizon had to deal with that reboot problem and the update for that probably set Gingerbread back a little bit. And second, they are probably make sure this update doesn’t make the HTC ThunderBolt go bonkers. It already has had plenty of issues and the last thing it needs right now are more problem so it’s smart that they are taking their time with the release.

That being said, the wait is painful, I know. Keep in mind, this was an HTC rep and not the company itself, so it’s possible that a release could be closer than this employee made it appear.

Keep those fingers crossed, folks.

I think after all the delays and rumors that surrounded this phone from day 1, HTC is being extremely cautious about announcing anything.  Let’s not forget the update has to pass through VZW’s hoops as well.

I believe that verizon wants to sell the motorola droid bionic with the gingerbread 2.3 so it can sell better than the thunderbolt and then afterwards they will be releasing the gingerbread for the htc thunderbolt..

Gotta love HTC – take my Thunderbolt, Please?
Any one want to put some money on whether the Bionic comes out before TB Gingerbread OTA?

By the time GB releases for the Thunderbolt their owners contract will be up and they will be eligible for a new phone for Pete sake. Sorry but Verizon and HTC screwed the pooch on this phone.

those of us who were waiting for this update long ago can also go the unofficial route as well. dispite what HTC says, i have had 3.2 on my thunderbolt for the good part of a month (shortly after the release came and gone with no result) with only minor problems…in fact, the only two issues i have had the entire time are a slightly slower charge rate than normal and then the second one is one i have had since i got the phone and then a second phone(constant 3G data dropout) after diagnostics and a second phone with the same 3G problem, i have found that at least in my opinion the 3G issue is isolated to ONLY 3G not 4G and seems to be just a transfer problem in the coding for data transfer, i solved that issue easily enough by applying the HTC data route fix.

but in short. 3.2 works just fine for me. all the intended updates to sense and so on…no untolerable issues, the slow charge rate can maybe be anoying but its not a critical issue for me.

HTC has pulled back this update to keep future customers from receiving the update….. Honestly… Wtf does that mean?. Don’t you think the future customers would want the newest version that they were promised… I bet android 2.4 will be out before they release 2.3 on the tb. I have been running gingerbread with sense 3.0 which by the way htc said it couldn’t handle…absolutely fine for months. Get off your lazy asses people and release these updates. If people can do it for free surely these huge corporations can go it. Verizon needs to get with the times and release a phone with current technology instead of about s year behind everyone else. Why don’t we have a phone like the sensation? You have the fastest 4g network but ur phone with the best specs doesn’t even run on it! Wtf are you thinking verizon. We pay some of the highest bills we deserve decent phones and to be delivered what was promised. seriously.
