HTC Vigor Battery Size Revealed?

Published

on

There is a lot of excitement surrounding the HTC Vigor, a device that is thought to be the successor to the HTC ThunderBolt, a device that might even arrive with the HTC ThunderBolt 2 name. And while we still don’t know exactly when the Vigor is going to arrive, we have a good idea what kind of specifications it has. However, one thing has eluded us thus far. Its battery size. But if an accessory listing on Amazon is to be believed, we should see a fairly large battery when the Vigor arrives.

You see, the Vigor is going to be a 4G LTE device on Verizon’s network. And 4G LTE devices need big batteries. Ask any HTC ThunderBolt or Samsung Droid Charge owner and they’ll talk your ear off about the battery life on both devices. It’s not good. So, those interested in the Vigor have been hoping that HTC takes care of this problem and pairs the device’s awesome specs with a good sized battery.

HTC Vigor

The accessory page lists a 1,620 mAh battery which isn’t a huge leap but is still much better than the battery found in the original ThunderBolt. Now, keep in mind, it’s possible that HTC might put something bigger (or smaller) inside the Vigor but as of right now, this is our best lead.

Let’s just hope that it gives owners better performance than the original.

The HTC Vigor is expected to have a 4.3″ 720p HD screen  with 1280×720 resolution, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 8MP rear cam, 2MP front, Android 2.3.4, a new version of HTC Sense dubbed Sense 3.3, Beats Audio technology.

    Get six pack Abs

I’m busy and can’t spend 60 minutes a day with exercises.
Truth About Six Pack Abs does not require this.
30-45 minutes workouts 2-3 times a week should do the trick

I can’t get excited about a phone that has an HD screen and a 4.3″ display.  Wouldn’t you have to buy a magnifying class in order to see web pages and the like  unless you zoomed everything?  If it was at least 4.5″ I would be excited.  Even more excited if it were 4.6″ or 4.7*.

I’m sorry but do you really think that HTC hasn’t thought that already or Google with the new Nexus. There most likely will be more pixels used to make up text so it appear larger. This was mentioned too already you can look this up. Your excuse is a lame one. If you don’t want it or your eyes suck then no one cares but don’t be a flaming jealous selfish jerk because you can’t get a Vigor. You say make the screen larger to compensate well that defeats the purpose of the 720p screen because the image would be stretched and it would look like standard resolution on the Thunderbolt now. That’s like saying text is too small on 720p 32″ tv so make it 47″. No a 47″ tv is 1080p so the pixels aren’t being stretched larger and make the image look blocky. Why don’t you buy a cordless satellite phone with big ass buttons so you can see everything ok.

I can get any phone I want and if after a time, I don’t like it, I’ll sell it on Ebay and get another phone.  Thanks a lot for the name calling.  We don’t know how HTC has handled HD in a 4.3″ format hence I simply posed a question and did not make a statement.   I have placed 4.3″ and 4.5″ display phones side by side and I prefer the bigger screen size as the phone itself isn’t all that much bigger.

The Nexus Prime/Droid Prime is rumored to have between 4.5″ and 4.65″ HD display.  The LG Revolution 2 is rumored to have a 4.5″ HD display.  If you look at any computer screen, you want the resolution to be higher on the bigger screen giving you more desktop real estate unless you do have trouble seeing.  The knock on the Epic Touch 4g is its a 4.5″ display with only WVGA resolution.  It looks kind of ridiculous when you place it side by side with a 4.3″ Photon with a qHD display.
I’m not saying the Vigor is a waste of time, it looks like an awesome phone.  I prefer a bigger HD display.

Yea your right with computers about the resolution. It is that way because computers are universal all made to run one operating system in particular all made to accept all hardware granted wether you are running winodws/apple/ or linux for thst matter. And there are options in windows operating system that let’s you make icons on your desktop and font larger than the default setting so people who have problems seeing the default text/icons and etc can view them larger to see them. If text is too small on a 4.3″ screen at 720p res then this is exactly what a phone manufacturer will deploy to make text and icons and etc larger to more easily see. Secondly a 0.3″ larger screen like you said will do squat to help you seeing text on a 720p. Text will get larger but the difference most likely won’t even be noticeable with a 0.3″ bigger screen.

How much time do you really spend web surfing on your phone to make this a big issue?  I only use my phones internet for sporadic things and if i have to zoom on something who cares… Its not like I’m trying to do some in-depth browsing, I have a laptop for that.

Sounds like you should buy a tablet for your web browsing app needs and a feature phone just to be a phone.

Some people have to make choices ORLY. Not everyone can always be near a computer or afford a tablet and chose a smart phone for the happy medium, not to mention some companies subsidize data plans. So why don’t you stop making us less affluent folk feel like sh*t

I thought about getting a tablet except I really don’t want to haul a tablet around with me.  Good thought though.  I’m a software developer who is in a support rotation so when I’m on-call, I want a phone to access the systems I support.  That is simply a matter of preference.  I use Skype a lot so I would like a bigger phone for that.  I also travel a lot so again I don’t want to pack a tablet with me.

Everyone has their own needs and preferences and after seeing a 4.3″ phone right next to 4.5″ phone I want the bigger phone.  For those who want the Vigor, it looks like an awesome phone and I can see why people would buy one.  I’ll wait for the Droid Prime and LG Revolution 2 to come out with the bigger screen size.

A 1620mAh battery is probably not that good. Keep in mind that the current HTC thunderbolt has a 1450mAh battery and it has a single core 1 GHz processor. The HTC Vigor will have TWO cores operating at 1.5 GHz EACH. I recognize that a dual core processor does not use exactly twice the power of a single core (probably significantly less than 2x). However, i AM saying that increasing the clock speed from 1 to 1.5 GHz AND doubling the cores will show a significant (or at least moderate) increase in battery usage. The increase in battery size (1450 to 1620mAh) is at best a “moderate” increase. So i would predict that the vigor would have similar or possibly worse battery life than the HTC thunderbolt. So unless there is significant efficiency improvements (like saying 2x the cores and 50% increase in clock speed will use LESS energy?), then i’m not buying the author’s claim that the 1620mAh battery is “fairly large”.

I guess time will tell once the phone is released.

PS. Although i would not say that the thunderbolt has “great” battery life, i would say it is average (par for the course) and almost acceptable. I use it medium to medium-lite usage every day (loving that LTE) and it lasts all day.

Assign another core is suppose to bring down cpu usage. Say on a single core you open up the web browser on your phone that single core clocks up to max to open the browser in a timely manner. Having two cores when you open your web browser instead both cores will only run something like 20 to 40 percent and it will be able to open the browser in the same amount of time as the single core but used less power because the frequncy of the cpu was kept low. It is not a linear function as cpu frequency goes up the voltage is exponentially increased so the voltage very quickly gets high when cpus run at max speed. The difference of a cpu core running at 300 megahertz compared to 400 or 500 megahertz is pretty substanstial especially after using it all day in a phone. It should add up to at least an extra hour or two of phone time. And along with the larger battery will further increase battery life obviously.

Personally, I am VERY excited to hear it has a 4.3″ screen.  I know the dimensions have not been revealed, but hopefully this is an indication that we are finally going to be able to purchase a high powered Android smartphone that fits in your pocket!  Which, no matter what your level of affluence, you have to admit is a very nice smartphone feature.

4.3 is too small, but that fifth of an inch makes all the difference in the world!!!!!!!!
