Hugo Ortega Readies His Own Tablet for Release: The Tega

Published

on

Former GBM Team Member Hugo Ortega is keeping himself busy in his home down under. Hugo is the owner of TegaTech a company that sells mobile devices of all types. Now is getting ready to release a Tablet and he says the first batches are almost ready to ship.

The TegaTech Tablet will be called the Tega and Hugo looks pretty excited in this picture. I’m pretty excited to see what Hugo has up his sleeve as well, because the man knows Tablets and mobile devices. Check out the specs below.

    the battery life, 2:30h is a joke for such a small mobile tablet PC. At least 5h with the default battery, everything else is just useless.
    The price $1000 is a joke, too. The tablet does have cheap components, probably a cheap display, no active digitizer, maybe a no name touchscreen, slow CPU+GPU. Seriously, the price is too high.
    $1000 would be ok if it uses a dual core Atom or an Intel CULV CPU, together with NVidia ION, 5h battery life, a good resitive touchscreen, maybe something like the stantum or an additional active digitizer, an outdoor usable display, either such a Pixel Qi, or a transmissive display with a good Anti Reflective coating.
    Additionally, it’s too thick! I know, 2.5cm isn’t that thick, but too thick for a mobile lightweight slate computer with such low power components.

    So in all honesty, I don’t think that this device will sell well.

    Before I get too excited about the price, I want to know if that’s U.S. dollars or Australian dollars.

    I would have hoped Hugo would come up with something you can ink on.

    I don’t know about this. His reviews (especially the one for the terrible HTC Shift) were a way for him to increase sales. I was a loyal follower of his blog until he decided he just didn’t care about his audience.

    I wouldn’t buy a tablet from “Tegatech” if it was the last tablet on earth. With those specs and his ego, this does not look good.

    ja genau er hat den Revwie zum HTC Shift gemacht und zum OQo 2 usw. Hugo hat es wirklich drauf, dank seinem Videos habe ich mir ne HTC Shift und nen OQO 2 gekauft. Nach und nach versteht sich.

    Im übrigen verpasst den HTC Shift Windows 7 und ihr seit zufriedener.

    Ich finde das Gerät jetzt auch nicht Bahnbrechend. Aber der Preis ich weis nicht ganz schön viel. Dafür bekommt man ja locker nen Ipad.

    @ $866 USD and 2.5 hour battery life and no OS, that’s a steep price. Let’s hope Hugo can bring that price down a bit.

    @Warner: Thanks mate.
    @turn.self.off: see my answer to Rob below…
    @Sumocat: LOL! That would be taking it way too far. :-)
    @Frank: Hugely valid points! No doubt you understand we did not tool this from the ground up. Not even Apple could make the “dream Tablet” so there is little chance we could from Australia. It will be a work in progress and I appreciate your great feedback!
    @sbtablet: see my answer to Rob below…(PS. regarding ink we are still testing ink and multi-touch)
    @theHugo: You got me so wrong it’s almost an insult. Many people know I am all about community. You should never confuse enthusiasm and passion for ego; two very different things. I appreciate your honesty though.
    @siberia21: Thanks! :-)
    @Rob: Good point! When looking at Tegatech Australia website prices include freight charges to AU (expensive), duties/local taxes and currency conversions are never as simple as using xe.com. USD price guide for this same unit: $591.60! It could even go down from there, just waiting on some final costs.
    @All: Thanks.

    For $500, you can get a no-name Chinese tablet running XP with the same specs from eBay…what’s the additional $500 going to?
