Expect the iOS 11 Beta to Be Limited

Apple could certainly surprise us but at this point we're expecting some devices to lose software support this year.

Devices like the iPhone 7, iPhone 6 and iPad mini 3 are safe. Older devices like the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPad 4 are not.

Nothing is confirmed but all signs point to Apple dropping 32-bit support with the arrival of iOS 11. We saw some clues emerge in iOS 10 betas and the company's latest app, Clips, doesn't support 32-bit devices. The iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPad 4 are 32-bit devices.

If these devices lose iOS support don't expect Apple to wait to make an announcement. We'll find out for sure when and if Apple releases an iOS 11 beta.

iPhone 4s users found out they were getting left behind on iOS 9 when Apple declined to release an iOS 10 beta for the aging former flagship.

If you own a 32-bit Apple device, it's time to start tempering those expectations. Don't go into WWDC 2017 expecting an iOS 11 beta for your device.
