You Don't Need to Install iOS 12 Right Away

You might be tempted to install iOS 12 right when it arrives. For some of you, that'll be perfectly fine. Others might be better off waiting a few hours, a few days or, in some cases, a few weeks before committing to the upgrade.

There are plenty of reasons to avoid installing new iOS software on day one. iOS updates, particularly big updates like iOS 12, can wreck havoc on overall performance. This is particularly true on older devices.

iOS 12 is focused on improving performance, but there's always a chance it ruins the experience. If you're feeling leery, there's no need to rush into the installation. iOS 12 won't be going anywhere.

If you need to, dig into early feedback from those who install on day one. This feedback will alert you to potential problems and benefits.

iOS 12 will almost certainly have its own set of problems, and some of you might be better off waiting for Apple's first bug fix update.

We expect iOS 12.0.1 to arrive soon after the iOS 12.0 release this fall.
