iOS 5.1 Release Date Pegged for March 9th

We have heard that Apple might be releasing iOS 5.1 alongside the upcoming iPad 3 or iPad 2S or iPad 2 HD or whatever the company is going to be calling it, and now we have a specific date to throw into the mix courtesy of YourDailyMac. The site has scrounged up some hard evidence in the form of eleven new profiles for iPhone operators that reveal March 9th as a possible iOS 5.1 release date.

As you can see there is also a reference to iOS 5.1 in there so assuming this hasn’t been doctored, you now have a possible date to throw into the hat for both iOS 5.1 and the iPad 3.

Remember, we’ve heard that Apple is going to be both announcing and releasing the next iPad in March and March 9th at this point is a good a date to launch as any.

iOS 5.1

These profiles are apparently intended for operators in Japan, France, Greece, Finland, and Sweden and are there to make sure network connectivity is active once the update is downloaded.

So, the evidence seems fairly credible but keep in mind, Apple plays its cards close to its chest and rarely, if ever, do these rumors prove to be 100% accurate.

iOS 5.1 is going to be the first semi-major update since Apple rolled out iOS 5 back in October coinciding with the launch of the company’s latest, iPhone, the iPhone 4S.

As of right now, details about what’s going to be coming with the update are murky. iPhone owners suffering from battery woes brought on by maintenance updates released after iOS 5 are hoping that it will fix those problems but it’s still unclear if iOS 5.1 will be that remedy.

The software is also rumored to include a 3G toggle in order to turn off faster data speeds to conserve battery life. There are also whispers about a couple of new features heading to Siri including the ability to:

  • Interact with Apps
  • Turn Bluetooth and WiFi on and off
  • Capture a video or photo

iOS 5.1 is also said to include new Photostream options and the ability to use iTunes Match over 3G.

Overall, it’s looking to be a pretty impressive piece of software. And maybe, just maybe, it’ll arrive on March 9th.

Stay tuned.

All the problems Apple has with it’s OS (Iown an iPhone, regretfully) yet they seems to be impervious in the news about it. If ANY other mobile phone maker has even a minor bug it’s front page news and their stock dives. As an iPhone user I would like to see the thing dissapear. Who cares about Siri? Honestly I have 103 apps on my iPhone and I use my banking, phone, messaging and iPod apps mostly. the rest I could delete and care less about.

If the information in this webpage is right and the above mentioned statement is correct, then, it shows that perhaps Apple will release iOS 5.1 ( or whatever it is called ) before 09 March, 2012. Normally, I think that, iOS is released to US Users first, before any other countries.
