iOS 6.0.2 Arrives Promising Fix for iOS 6 WiFi Issues

Published

on

Apple released iOS 6.0.2 for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini, an update that promises to fix WiFi issues for these devices.

The small update is available as a download direct to the iOS device and as an update for users that plug the iPhone or iPad into a computer.

This small update should not be confused with the iOS 6.1 update we expect in early 2013 with a host of new features. This is a welcome update for anyone experiencing WiFi connectivity issues on the iPhone or iPad.

iOS 6.0.2 Update WiFi Fix

The iOS 6.0.2 update promises to fix iOS 6 WiFi Issues.

Apple’s release note for the iOS 6.0.2 update is brief, saying only that this update, “Fixes a bug that could impact Wi-Fi.”

The iOS 6 WiFi issue is an annoying connection and speed issue that has been around since iOS 6 was released in September. This bug causes speeds to drop or connections to stall when connected to WiFi. Several members of the Gotta Be Mobile staff experienced this bug on the iPhone 5 and on the iPad.

The iOS 6.0.2 update should help alleviate the issue which would often stall web browsing sessions on the iPhone without a reason. Users may erroneously believe it is related to their router, but this update may fix the problem for most iPhone and iPad owners.

Users waiting for an iOS 6 jailbreak may want to avoid this update until further notice, in case Apple patched any exploits. The iOS 6.0 jailbreak for the iPhone 5 may not arrive until iOS 6.1 is released according to some rumors, so we could hear about an all-clear soon.

How to Update to iOS 6.0.2

Users can update to iOS 6.0.2 on the device or by connecting to their computer. The over the air update is currently down, returning the error message,

Unable to Check for Update: An error occurred while checking for a software update.

Users can wait a few hours and try again by going to Settings -> General -> Software Updates.

Users can also plug-in to iTunes to update the software without waiting. To do the update this way, plug the iPhone 5 and iPad mini into your computer and open iTunes.

Select the device on the left side of iTunes.

I was playing around with it today. For me, I noticed that after the update I could get a connection sometimes.
When I have apps open in the background, it cannot connect.
If I have no apps running (especially ones that require internet), I can connect to my wifi router most of the time.

So here is what I do.
      1) turn off wifi in settings
      2) go to task manager, close all apps (all apps to be safe)
      3) turn on wifi in settings (you might have to select your wifi network again)
      4) Voila works 4 out of 5 times (in my estimation)

Still a pain in the backside, but it might keep you going until they can get a real update.

same here, no improvement but happy to see Apple acknowledging the problem, up until it was released the “senior tech guy” that I am working with was saying it’s not an OS6 problem

I don’t trust this iOS 6.0.2. I just got my first iPhone 5 2 months ago, and my wifi at first was working. However, after few weeks it just cannot connect to my wifi at home. So first I thought its my wifi modem’s prob but apparently my other apple devices are fine with the wifi. I tried my boyfriend’s house wifi still not working. I even tried to go public wifi place like Starbucks and Timmy, none of them are working. So I went to apple store and ask them to help. But what happened is my iPhone can connect to the apple store wifi. So they told me nth is wrong with my wifi. So I went home tried the reset my network, tried even reset the phone to original factory setting as a new phone, still can’t fix my prob. So I went to apple store again, and they told me its already the version of iOS 6.0.2 so should solve the prob on wifi. But NOT!!!!!!!! I went to that same apple store so many times even took screen shot to show my prob. But they just don’t want to help me and switch to a new phone. So I called the apple tech, and they are way much nicer and allow me to get a new phone from my local apple store. So I went back again, ask them to replace me a new phone. But they still want to look at my phone and ask my questions they already asked me million times ago. They treated me as im a liar and lie to have a new phone. I just want a new phone!!!!!!! But at the end they give me a new phone. So if u guys have the same prob just go ahead and get a new phone!!!!!! And now my new phone ask me to update to iOS 6.0.2. I won’t get tricked again!

What about putting a fix out for the iPad2 & all of you other IOS toys that you have converted into paper weights. it’s no an isolated issue related to your latest products.
You know what they say it only takes one bad apple.
Well we have a bad apple here & no end insight. WiFi keeps dropping out and failing to connect at random intervals. No issues with android or windows devices Apple you a the root cause for shagging my iPad.
Give us the option to roll back to IOS 5 it’s doable because you allow people to do it when the product in released in Beta testing.
    Put IOS6 back to BETA
Some people use your products to conduct business

I had a similar problem. Other non iphone mobiles could connect by I could not connect my iphone 5 (neither could another iphone 5 user connect). I found the soultion was to reset the Linksys router, and then go to General>reset>reset network settings. Fine since then.

having trouble with wifi.. it amazes me that there is no concrete solution from apple.. i suppose thats not too much for your premium devices..

Have tried resetting my router.. my wifi settigns .. network settings onto the ipad2..
Played with the wifi-channel.. rebooted my router like 100 times..
    Changed the SSID several times..

still having issues with the wifi.. shows connectivity but does not loads any pages..

    any solution to it?

My solution is go to apple store and ask them to replace a new one for u. If its not working, it’s not WORKING. There’s nth we can do about it!
