iOS 6.1 Release Date Could Arrive Soon

Published

on

For weeks now, iPhone and iPad owners have been wondering about iOS 6.1 and the iOS 6.1 release date. So far, all signs have pointed to a possible release in January or potentially in early February and we now have a few more clues that seem to point to a possible launch in the near future.

In December, Apple hastily released iOS 6.0.2, the second update to iOS 6 since the software was released back in September for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. That update was aimed at taking care of Wi-Fi issues that iDevice owners had been experiencing since iOS 6’s release. Oddly enough, the release of iOS 6.0.2 came just a day after Apple released iOS 6.1 Beta 4 to developers, a Beta that many thought and still believe to be the final Beta of iOS 6.1 before the Gold Master (GM) of the software is released.

io6And while that may or may not be the case, the clock is seemingly ticking for Apple to release some sort of update soon, whether it’s the GM or a new version of iOS 6.1 Beta.

According to noted iOS hacker Stefan Esser, also known as i0n1c, iOS 6.1 Beta 4 will expire in 12 days. If that’s the case, then those who haven’t installed a new Beta or the official version of iOS 6.1 will likely be locked out of their device. We imagine that Apple won’t allow this to happen and it will release something iOS 6.1 related between now and the end of the month.

Of course, it could be that we see iOS 6.1 Beta 5 emerge from the shadows, but it seems more likely that we’ll see the long-awaited iOS 6.1 GM released to developers and soon after see an official iOS 6.1 roll out to the public.

iPhone owners continue to wait for iOS 6.1.

A German blog, iFun, has cited a “reliable” source who claims that the final beta of iOS 6.1 is nearly ready to go so, again, it’s looking like we’re closer than ever to an iOS 6.1 release date.

Apple doesn’t announce release dates for its iOS software updates so it’s no surprise that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners are waiting in limbo for the new software to arrive.

While not a big update, iOS 6.1 is expected to feature a couple of new features including a different looking music control on the lock screen, a more prominent place to report bugs in Apple Maps, and a new feature in Siri that allows users to purchase movie tickets using the virtual assistant and Fandango.

There should also be bug fixes on board that should shore up issues that iDevices owners have been having since the upgrade to iOS 6.01, iOS 6.0.2 and iOS 6 itself.

6.0.2 sorted that for me (luckily). I think it’s scandalous apple can leave bug fixes like that so long!

Such pathetic changes. Yeah it’s a minor revision but the 6.0 update was so lacking I had silly hopes that apple had something up their sleeve. If there’s no jailbreak soon after 6.1 I’m jumpin ship. :( I’m getting so bloody tired of Apples tactics of “you can’t do that on our phone because we already do it crappy! Oh yeah and you can’t do it on last years model either.

I have to agree! I loved Apple for a long time, but the expensive silver fruit has become a bit rotten. iOS 6 disappointed me so much, I jumped ship a month and a half ago. It took a bit of time to get used to, but I’m loving the modern look of Android 4.2 and the raw power of my Nexus 4.

Sadly Apple doesn’t give a flying f**k about its Swedish users. We don’t even have iTunes Match yet. And we’re paying about 800-1000 $ for an iPhone 5.
But still, iPhone is super popular here. I was expecting more from Apple this time (iOS 6 release). So I made the unforgivable decision to switch OS. To its worst competitor Samsung.

Don’t discredit me as a flamer because I’m not.
Don’t get me wrong (U still might though cuz this is my second language and all) i have been a true advocate for iOS since its first appearance on the scene. But it’s hard to defend a never-changing OS.

Apples design team really hit it off though. Congrats to them. A beautiful device. Maybe the best out there today.

Android. I really hated that green Shrek thing. It’s ugly as hell. No doubt.
But the OS 4.1.2 is great. I can change my setting in the NC. Without Jailbreak the iPhone sucks (not for new users but for long time users since we knew the OS for several years like 07/08).

This is coming from a person who has an Apple TV several iPads. My wife still rocks the 5. Apple if you’ll ever listen to your customers, domestic ones or foreign: change is good. I don’t care about Siri when she’s not speaking my language. I don’t care about Facebook in the NC give me the ability to change my own device so it feels like MY phone.

Have a wonderful day now people.

Apple is all about GREED $$$$ not there customers even there store employees don’t make crap they train them to just lie and say oh we don’t know anything yet!!! Like I said wen sadly Steve passed and Tim cook took over guess what ? They left us all out in the cold!! Ip 5 was my first and last apple product!! But I feel for you henrik!! No better here in the states!!

Thanks for the update Larry. I feel that the innovational skills Apple had before, is gone.
Somewhere when Steve Jobs passed. Or maybe even sooner than that.
Look at the innovation Mac has had the last year or so. Where is iPhone going?
NFC should be implemented but no we got Passbok which no one uses. Not in Scandinavia anyway.

I love my Galaxy S3. But I miss the hardware made by Apple. Plastic is not fantastic after all. Even though the OLED screen is really cool.

If there would be a home button war. Apple would crush Samsung.

You hit the nail on the head perfect, that said after reading apple and Samsung have been at a stupid war for sometime, ya I like my S3 also but I have to admit apple and Samsung need to work things out together!! Ya plastic and pled screen don’t mix but both company’s working things better together would be better!! But the iPhone 5 was apples worst ever!! I seen all iPhones since day one so I tried my first and last iPhone and sadly was the 5 the iPhone 5 is the worst bug rittled and glitchy phone ever seen and a waste of money and apples greed and I’m glad this bit apple in the ass!! And I hope apple can turn things around?? But time will tell??

Also one more thing said, if apple and Samsung getting together the galaxy sure would look nice with that super screen with no more cheap plastic and a nice metal casing and the iPhone working better with Samsung both together could make nice interesting future quality products? Even my S3 was a little glitchy but no where as bad as the new iPhone 5!! That being said, Samsung is a few steps ahead of apple, so to closing end like I said apple and Samsung together can do some amazing products if they but there smarts together, for now I don’t trust apples future for the iPhone and where it’s going and rumors of two iPhones now this year?? The cheaper 5S and a bigger 6?? That tells me apple may be realizing they need to step it up!! Who knows..

“In December, Apple hastily released iOS 6.0.2, the second update to iOS 6 since the software was released back in September for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.”

I thought iOS 6.0.2 was for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini only?

    • Henrik

      01/22/2013 at 3:01 am

Yeah, you’re right. It was iPhone 5/mini exclusive.
Though it seems to have fixed wifi issues for some, it drains my battery. Or drained since I’ve left apple regarding phones.
