iOS 7.0.3 Problems Remain for iPhone & iPad Users

Published

on

Yesterday, Apple rolled out a brand new iOS 7 update in the form of iOS 7.0.3. The update, which is now available to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners, is a bug fix update aimed at tackling some of the linger issues left over from iOS 7’s arrival back in September. And while it appears to have zapped a bunch of the problems iPhone and iPad users have been dealing it, users are still complaining about issues after the upgrade.

Apple took the stage yesterday and announced two brand new iPads in the iPad Air and iPad mini 2, OS X Mavericks, the new Mac Pro and the new MacBook Pro. It was a big day for those looking to buy new Apple products and it was also a big day for those current touting Apple’s iPhone and iPad thanks to an iOS 7.0.3 update that rolled out shortly after the event.

Used-iPhone-iOS-7-Warning

Rumors ahead of yesterday’s event suggested that Apple would be delivering an iOS 7.0.3 update or event an iOS 7.1 update to iPhone, iPad and iPod users. Those rumors were backed by comments from Apple itself, comments that confirmed an iOS 7 update for sometime in October. At the event, Apple remained mum about an update. However, the silence lasted only a short while as it rolled out iOS 7.0.3 just a few minutes after the event concluded.

iOS 7.0.3 rolled out to owners of iOS 7 devices and its purpose was to tackle a number of issues that iPhone and jPad owners have been experiencing with iOS 7.0.3. It also brought along Apple’s new iCloud Keychain feature, a feature that it announced alongside iOS 7 back in June, but did not deliver with the initial iOS 7 update.

Our experience with iOS 7.0.3, so far, has been good on both the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 but it looks like the latest iOS update, as usual, is causing problems for some iPad and iPhone users.

iOS 7.0.3 Problems

Things are a little quieter than usual, probably because the iOS 7.0.3 did fix a bunch of problems for iPhone and iPad owners, but we are still seeing users complain about a number of problems after installing iOS 7.0.3 on their device. Users are also complaining about issues from past iOS 7 updates that are lingering inside the new software.

Interestingly, we’re seeing reports that suggest that iOS 7.0.3 broke iMessage or that the update did not fix the issues that have plagued the service since iOS 7 arrived. Other users are still complaining about a problem with Siri in which users are reporting that the microphone isn’t responsive. Users are also complaining about freezing issues with the camera application, something that apparently persists in iOS 7.0.3, and a problem that has generated a lot of attention on Apple’s discussion forums.

We’re still hearing some complaints about IMAP, screen flickering, as well as non-functional Wi-Fi. It looks like the iOS 7.0.3 update also has kept 4G LTE connectivity issues around on the iPad 2. Oddly enough, we haven’t seen complaints lobbed at the update’s battery life though we imagine that there are plenty users who are experiencing perceived battery life issues.

photo5

One reader has also chimed in and told us about an issue that he is seeing across several devices running iOS 7.0.3. When trying to remove several applications at once in the multitasking menu, an application often sticks around. In other words, it doesn’t close. When the multitasking is opened again, the application remains.

The issue is apparently still active inside iOS 7.0.3 though the frequency of the issue has decreased after installing the new iOS 7 update.

What’s Next for iOS 7 Users?

ipad-review-3-new-10-620x427iOS 7.0.3 clearly fixed a lot of bugs inside iOS 7. Our iMessage is finally functioning normally and we’re seeing a lot of success stories on Apple’s forums and beyond. But that doesn’t mean that everything has been fixed and users are still holding out hope that a future update will fix their iOS 7 issues on the iPad and iPhone.

As we’ve said, numerous times, Apple does a fantastic job keeping its mobile devices updated with software. The quick arrival of iOS 7.0.3 is a perfect example of this. However, we’ve also pointed out that while Apple’s iOS updates fix a lot of issues, they never fix everything.

At this point, it’s clear there are still some issues that the company needs to smooth over but because Apple never announces its updates, its not clear when it will roll another out.

iOS 7.0.4 or iOS 7.1 are prime candidates for Apple’s next iOS 7 update. And while they will likely come with some more bug fixes on board, there is no telling what they will fix. We should also point out that often times, iOS issues will work themselves out.

In the meantime, frustrated iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners experiencing issues inside Apple’s new iOS 7.0.3 update are stuck with their peers and temporary fixes for support.

I upgraded my iphone 5 to 7.0.3 but after the completion of this ios, the iphone restarted by it self and then shows icon to connect to iTunes. On connecting with iTunes, the following comment appeared on screen : iTunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with iTunes. I don’t know what to do now. Please suggest.

It’s always amusing to see these continual comments that more people are becoming happy with iOS7. My brother at Jaguar Land Rover in the UK has forwarded me a company wide email advising iPhone and iPad users NOT to upgrade because of the poor stability. iOS7, for all Apple’s puffed up boasts about it, is utterly rubbish and has damaged the brand.

After downloading iOS7.0.3 onto my 5C, my data completely stopped working. Anyone know how I can fix it?

    • Rudy

      10/29/2013 at 3:55 pm

Same thing happened to me with my iPhone 5. What I was instructed to do by my service provider is to sync your iPhone to iTunes(be sure to have the latest version) and Restore the phone which will delete all information and set your phone back to factory settings. You might want to back up your information first before doing this. My service provider are restoring iPhones back as far as iOS7 only. From there, customers will have to wait for further instructions on whether or not it’s safe to continue updating to 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3.

Ironically, when I did a Restore for my phone, I still had iOS7.0.3 as the operating system and my phonebook was still intact. Eventually, my data was restored only because the Restore brought back the APN settings under the Cellular option in Settings. That was the only fix to my iPhone. iOS7.0.3 eliminates the APN setting capabilities(I don’t know why). I believe it’s because Apple requires service providers to be listed as a reseller and and have their provisions.

I hope this help you out, Greg.

I can report that here at my office, my iPad and iPhone stopped connecting to our EnGenius Access Points following the upgrade to 7.0.3. Your mileage may vary depending on which brand of router you use. Apple had better hurry and rush out the 7.0.4 update to fix this – not the first time an iOS update broke WiFi for our particular Access Points. Not happy!

This does seem to be a total F-up, but customer satisfaction is what ~drives~ Apple’s (and everyone else’s) profits. If the customers get pissed enough, they just eat the early termination fee and switch to another phone, and they know that. Like any successful business, they know that pissing off their customers is a fast track to bankruptcy, and they certainly don’t go out of their way to do so.

Updated to 7.0.3 now my iPhone 5 is telling me the password I had (for the past year without problems) for my home wifi is incorrect. When I try to type it in, same problem. When I try to manually add my home wifi network, same problem. After I reset network settings, same problem. After backing up and restoring my entire iPhone, same problems.

I was perfectly happy with 7.0.2. Anyone know how to downgrade to that version? I don’t want to go back to 6+

iPhone 4, iMessage no longer works with 7.0.3 Also spotlight search showed web/Wikipedia a couple times, now only search iPhone. Tried a restore and first thing it did was download and install 7.0.3 again even though iTunes said already installed and updated. Even though update said installed again issues still remain with iMessage and Spotlight Search. Sense another update. 7.0.3 had same affect on my iPad 2, no more iMessage and Spotlight Search didn’t update to search web/Wikipedia

The 7.0.3 update blows for the iPhone 5. It does not stay connected to wireless and those of us that had unlimited from Verizon don’t anymore because we had to upgrade from our obsolete phones. Now we get to use our whole data plan faster and risk going over because the 5 won’t and can’t stay connected

I’m with T-Mobile on location in Australia and with the 7.0.3 upgrade I have lost my connection with Optus Australia (SOS only) this needs to be fixed A.S.A.P. as I rely on my US phone # to be active.

Since the latest upgrade to 7.0.3 I am not even able to use my phone except when someone calls me.

    I CANNOT:
    •turn my phone off
•see my texts (the screen stays white and then goes away completely)
•see my schedule (the screen is black and then goes away completely)
•half the time when I push the home button it doesn’t respond

Now I can’t even swipe my screeen and it will not power down, it stays on the home screen and does nothing. I don’t know what i’m going to do when it completely dies and I can’t do anything!

7.0.3 wiped my contacts from the iPhone 4S and Mac’s Address Book. The originals are in Outlook, thank goodness, but since the 7 “upgrade,” I’ve had all kinds of problems synching calendar and, now, contacts from Outlook to the phone. This is the raison d’etre for a smartphone, and it doesn’t work.

    10/28/2013 at 10:43 am

Since upgrading my 4S to iOS 7, I’ve had nothing but problems with my wifi. Update 7.0.2 seemed to drastically reduce the frequency of not being able to connect to my NetGear WNDR3700. I stupidly updated to 7.0.3 without waiting to see if anyone was having issues with it and, sure enough, now I can’t connect to my wifi 90% of the time. Under 7.0.2 I used to be able to keep clicking on “Join Network” and eventually it would connect; with 7.0.3, I can’t connect at all. Resetting the router doesn’t seem to help either.

What pisses me off is that I had zero issues connecting to my wifi with iOS 6. Now I need to constantly check to make sure I’m connected to wifi before downloading updates or making purchases. What a POS…

My iPad 3 and my wifes iPhone 4, 5S, and iPad 4 work fine…but they are all on 7.0.2. Argh!

I don’t know why Apple closes the sighning window for Ios’s right after a new one. And even further, let us instal the original ios that came on the device originally! That would make too much since!

Since installing iOS 7.0.3 on my iPad2, any app that attempts to connect to Facebook is having issues. I went into iOS settings for Facebook and noticed my password was gone. I rentered my password and got “cannot connect to server” I attempted to delete my FB account to reset it all and it won’t delete. I even deleted the FB app & reinstalled with no success. I called apple support. They said iOS must not have installed properly. Recommended that I connect the device to current version of iTunes and do a restore from backup. iCloud backup wouldn’t be good enough. Unfortunately, I only had iCloud backups, so I emailed all important documents and pics to myself then did a factory settings restore. That worked, but I had to reload all my apps. Fortunately they were all free apps.

Grrrrrrrr, first no sound with anything from clicking of keyboard, to tones, music, games and ringer. Works fine on docking station & ear buds. Yes, I tried all the DIY quick fixes with no luck. Then a few days ago keeps saying searching, with full wifi showing, internet connection is fine….BUT, NO PHONE RECEIVING GOES RIGHT TO VOICE MAIL. If I want to call, I get ” unable to find strong enough single”. Went to sprint no help, 5 months till new phone. I phone really a must for number of reasons, major one I am fully disabled, w/ a disease that can cause major issues and changes in a matter of minutes, the face to face has proven valuable when situations have happened, my loved ones can pretty much save valuable time, by that use alone. Any idea what may be going on? I did add the new iOS 7 BEFORE, this all happened. Any assistant would be great.

What a pain to email all your photos to yourself! Really makes you wonder just how reliable iCloud is as a backup! I think I’ll start uploading my pics to a couple of other sites & have the important ones printed. There’s something to say about 35mm cameras, rolls of film, double prints & negatives with a CD for $2.95. This is getting VERY annoying! I’ve had one App spinning (waiting) holding up all other App updates on my iPad mini since Sat. And I’ve had the Facebook password glitch happen countless times. I don’t even use the Desktop App. I always sign in online!
This is NOT GOOD for Apple ‘s newest devices ~ iPad Air, the two new iPhone 5’s. I’ll keep my mini & 4s until the bugs are exterminated.

All my photos have disapeard! After many errors and 1,5 hours support with Apple I got my Iphone 5 to start working. But all my 800 photos that was backed up have disapeard since the Itunes have overwritten the back up i did before upgrade to 7.0.3…. And After 5-6 attempts and nwe coipes. My HD went full… The backup I have can not be imported because it’s corruped. What can I do to see whats in teh Backup that Itune can not see?

Any chance that the computer where you have iTunes has a restore point? Maybe you can get the photos back by restoring your computer from a backup taken a few days ago.

So what is iCloud.com for? Shouldn’t your photos be there? If they’re not, why am I paying for additional storage? I’m confused between backing up through iCloud via wifi when my devices are all plugged in……………. AND…………….using a USB cable to connect to your computer then choosing “back up with wifi or wirelessly”. What is the difference?

Yesterday I updated my iPad to ios 7.0.4. Now the backspace / delete key works very slowly. When pressed it takes a couple of seconds to erase a single character and a lot of time to erase a complete word. This is very annoying and frustrating since I am using iPad at work all the time.

I used to use my family’s apple ID, prior to getting my own ID. Both have purchases on them. Now, I understand the measures taken to keep people from sharing purchased content with friends.
But if some videos are DOWNLOADED ONTO MY PHONE, I should not have to constantly switch between apple IDs just to watch a video.

Thomas S, Will you please explain to me how you got your own Apple ID when you were registered under the family’s ID? I bought an iPhone 4S 16 gb eighteen months ago. I gave my adolescent daughter my original iPhone 4 eight gb phone. The info transferred to my new phone beautifully! But it also stayed on the 4. I set my daughter’s with a different @me.com &
@icloud.com. When it came to “payment source”, I used the same debit card from bank acct. It caught me! From then on, it required my login info for her to do anything. Even updating Apps or deleting an App (which just goes to icloud). It WILL NOT let us have separate iCloud accts. For the majority, we use the same Apps. But I have Apps she doesn’t want & I have Apps that I don’t want like Temple Run 2 & Downhill x. If we delete, the Apps are back after each backup! The same happens with our music, photos, etc. I have Photo Vault for private pics & I have Mental Note for private info. They are both double password protected if you choose. I have to put quite a few restrictions on her phone so she can’t spend all my $$, but she cannot download a FREE APP unless I put in the password. What she can get is age appropriate free material with Ratings set by ME~ Apple shouldn’t override that! I approve Kindle Books, websites, songs & Apps! I have the website filters set as well. Settings are per device. We still need separate Apple ID’s & passwords. HELP PLEASE! 😉Thanks ahead of time! Patti 🐶🐶
