7 iOS 7 Release Date Tips

Published

on

Tomorrow, the iOS 7 release date will arrive for millions of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners across the globe. Many owners plan on upgrading to Apple’s brand new software on day one and for those that are thinking about installing the software tomorrow, we have a few tips that may help the process go a little more smoothly.

At WWDC 2013, Apple debuted its latest iOS update, iOS 7, a piece of software that not only brings new features to owners of the company’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, but also delivers a brand new look that will be far different than the iOS design that was employed in iOS 6, iOS 5 and the software updates before them.

Last week, Apple went over many of the big name iOS 7 features again, detailing AirDrop, the new camera application and its features, the new Control Center, the upgrades to Siri, and the new design that will accompany the software on its way to iDevice owners tomorrow.

iOS 7 arrives tomorrow, likely around 10AM PST.

iOS 7 arrives tomorrow, likely around 10AM PST.

Apple announced that it would be making the update available to the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad mini, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 and iPod touch fifth-generation starting tomorrow which means that owners of all of those devices will be able to download and install the iOS 7 update when Apple makes it available.

Anyone that has gone through an iOS update processor, particularly a major iOS update process, will tell you that it’s not always smooth sailing. In the past, we’ve seen installation issues due to Apple’s servers getting slammed by requests. We’ve seen bugs emerge alongside software updates, most recently in iOS 6.1 which brought a devastating Exchange bug that killed battery life. We’ve also seen ill-prepared iPhone and iPad owners waltz into an update, not knowing what to expect and getting frustrated with the results.

With the massive changes that will be coming with iOS 7, tomorrow’s release date will be under the microscope. With that in mind, ahead of the iOS 7 release date, we wanted to share some tips with those that plan to upgrade to iOS 7 tomorrow or in the near future.

Be Prepared

While there are certainly millions of veterans out there who have endured many iOS updates, there are those that are very green and will be installing a major iOS update for the very first time. While the process isn’t going to be drastically different than other updates, there are still some things that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners can do, even those that have installed iOS updates before, to make the process as smooth as possible.

The iOS 7 GM download lets anyone with a supported device install IOS 7 early.

Make a back up before installing iOS 7.

First off, be prepared for the iOS 7 update. What we mean by that is, take the steps to ensure a smooth update process. Download the latest version of iTunes, get that Apple ID ready, make a backup so that if iOS 7 goes haywire, files won’t be missing or corrupt.

iOS 7 is a bit of a wildcard given that it’s vastly different than iOS 6 so it’s hard to predict how it will behave. But the more prepared iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners are for the installation process, the better.

Dig Into iOS 7 Before Installing It

Once an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch owner installs iOS 7, there is no going back to iOS 6. So, we suggest that prior to installing iOS 7, owners should dig into iOS 7 and make sure that it’s an update that they want to install on day one.

iOS 7 is full of changes including new features, new icons and updates to Apple’s core applications. And that means that someone who is used to iOS 6, but hasn’t used iOS 7 and all of its feature changes and design changes, is going to be extremely confused once iOS 7 is downloaded. And believe us, there will be those that blindly install iOS 7 without any research and will immediately want to go back to iOS 6.

We highly suggest researching iOS 7, its design, its features, and more before installing it. A good start is by taking a look at our iOS 7 hands-on video below.

Those who are unsure or who haven’t invested any time in learning about the software ahead of time can also wait a day or two, iOS 7 isn’t going anywhere, to read first impressions in regard to the software. Many will be better off that way.

Set Aside Time for the Update

iOS updates are usually pretty seamless, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t take up a lot of time. In fact, we think that the iOS 7 update process could fall between 40 minutes and 135 minutes, depending on the steps that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners need to take ahead of installing the new software.

Read: iOS 7 Release Time: When to Expect the iOS 7 Download.

The iOS 7 release time is very likely set for September 18th at 10 AM Pacific. Check out when the iOS 7 release could be in your time zone.

With that in mind, we highly recommend setting aside at least an hour of time to make sure that all systems are go and for the download and installation process itself. Given the high profile nature of this update, we could see Apple’s servers get off to a slow start and thus, we could see installation times increase.

So set aside some quiet time in order to get the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch updated as the process may, and will likely require, more than just half-baked attention.

Install at Home Base

Simple, avoid installing iOS 7 while on-the-go. Instead, set aside some time at home when there are fewer distractions and far more ways to obtain information. The last thing that iPhone and iPad owners will want is something to go haywire while at work or in the middle of class. Furthermore, those who are at work may want to wait until they get home, particularly if the iPhone or iPad is important to work flow.

Beware of buying a used iPhone with iOS 7 installed. If the phone is not wiped you could be out of luck.

After a lengthy wait, the iOS 7 release date is at hand.

We don’t anticipate major issues but as we’ve seen in the past, iOS updates are unpredictable and we could see any number of issues crop up on devices just as soon as its released. So take our advice and install the software from home base. It will make things a whole lot easier should anything go awry.

Know That Bug Fixes Will Come

There are likely going to be bugs that arrive with iOS 7, it’s just part of the game, and something that happens during every major iOS update. While we can’t say what bugs will appear when iOS 7 arrives tomorrow, we can say that any major bugs will be ironed out in swift fashion so there will be no need to panic.

Apple is also testing an iOS 7.0.1 update and an iOS 7.0.2 update according to analytics tools.

Apple is also testing an iOS 7.0.1 update and an iOS 7.0.2 update according to analytics tools.

Apple typically is on the case if it determines a major bug is at hand, so if there are major issues, expect a fast update to iOS 7.0.1. Even if there aren’t any major issues, Apple typically rolls out an iOS 0.1 update just a few weeks after the initial release to tackle any initial issues that iPhone and iPad owners encounter with their new software.

The company does a fantastic job of supporting its software, so much so, that we’ve already heard that an iOS 7.0.1 update is in the works. So don’t panic if there are some initial cobwebs. Apple should work to improve the experience immediately.

If in Doubt, Head to Apple’s Forums

Those that simply cannot wait for a fix will find that the Apple discussion forums are often rife with activity on iOS release days. Users who have issues typically go there first to address their issues and quite often, a resourceful iPhone or iPad owners has the answers.

Whether that’s a nasty installation issue or a bug found within iOS 7, Apple’s discussion forums are a great place to go on day one in an attempt to address any iOS issues that pop up.

Comment sections and Twitter are also helpful places to go should something come up during the iOS 7 installation process or once the software is downloaded and installed.

Wait a Bit

Finally, be patient. More often than not, we see iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners lose their cool if something doesn’t go their way. And typically, we see it happen right when an iOS update is released.

Installing iOS 7 while traveling could cause headaches.

Waiting to install iOS 7 could mean a more fluid process.

If the iOS 7 update is taking a long time, go do something else. There is no sense in getting fired up over something that is not in the hands of owners but is rather, in the hands of Apple’s servers. Usually, things get much better later in the day when Apple’s servers aren’t as constricted so those that aren’t the patient type may just want to wait the first few hours out and install when things have died down.

It has worked for us in the past and it should work out well if there are any initial bumps in the road with iOS 7.

Yes, there are a lot of changes, but most of what most users normally do, make calls, receive calls, send/receive texts, check email, etc., will still work much like they did before. They will look somewhat different, but they will, mostly, seem to work the same. I doubt anyone will be seriously confused by the new interface, once they figure out what the icons look like. For the deeper aspects, and the new features, there will be a bit more of a learning curve, but less than were they switching to Windows Phone, or Android.
Good luck everyone, and happy updating.

Hi have used iOS 7 2 months back on iphone 5 16GB… it was on Beta 3 at that time.
It was consuming lot of battery at that time. hope they have fixed that problem. my phone used to die in 5 hours from 100% batt. I researched a bit at that time. what i got to know was something to do with how you install the iOS once installed dont restore backup just set up a new phone and then sink with ur mac or pc and it should be fine. not sure if this still exists but just something to watch out… rest iOS 7 is the best i have come accross a bit of interface changes but ios users will get the hang if it within first 5 mins. in cellular network u can switch data off for individual apps which works very well when u are on international data and want messaging onlyrest you will see as u get along…

Very true, and Apple has always prided themselves on being an innovator, and putting down Microsoft, and yet now has the nerve to copy the design and claim that they did it first. But, as we know since the departure of Woz, Apple has not invented anything.
