iOS 8.4.1 Jailbreak Release Could Arrive Next Month

Published

on

If you’re wanting to jailbreak your iPhone, an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak release could be arriving at some point next month.

iOS 9 was released earlier this month, and it unsurprisingly patched up the exploits used in the iOS 8 jailbreak, making iOS 9 unjailbreakable.

While iOS 9 is the latest version that many users are now running on, you can still unofficially downgrade to iOS 8.4.1, which isn’t yet jailbroken either, but it’s possible that we could see an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak soon enough.

The summer was a busy time for the jailbreaking community with an iOS 8.3 jailbreak releasing in early June and an iOS 8.4 jailbreak releasing just a couple of weeks later alongside the release of the iOS 8.4 update itself.

Eventually, Apple released iOS 8.4.1 with some minor improvements and patches for the iOS 8.4 jailbreak. Since then, we have yet to see a new jailbreak release, but that could change soon.

A jailbreak developer by the name of Luca Todesco has claimed he is working on an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak and will release it in a couple of weeks, according to his latest tweets. He later said that an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak is “100% coming.”

Jailbreaking has been at a standstill for the past several months ever since iOS 8.4.1 was released, but that’s probably because jailbreak developing teams like TaiG and Pangu are working on an iOS 9 jailbreak instead of focusing on iOS 8.4.1. However, that leaves more room for Todesco to release an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak, which is the latest iOS 8 version.

If an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak does release, it will mean that Todesco will be a new addition to the jailbreaking scene, at least when it comes to popularity, as teams like TaiG, Pangu, and Evad3rs have been the biggest names recently. In fact, Pangu and TaiG are responsible for the various iOS 8 jailbreaks that released over the past year.

When an unfamiliar developer joins the jailbreaking scene, it’s taken with some caution, unsurprisingly, so we’ll simply just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best at this point.

However, hopefully the jailbreak releases sooner rather than later, as Apple will most likely close the signing period for iOS 8.4.1 shortly. When this happens, users will no longer be able to downgrade back down to iOS 8 or upgrade to iOS 8.4.1 if they’re still on iOS 8.4.0 or older.

Luckily, though, the signing window is still open, so if you have confidence that we’ll see an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak soon, it might be a good time to update or downgrade to iOS 8.4.1 right now so that you’ll be able to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1.

Of course, iOS 8.4.1 is a rather minor update to iOS 8.4.0, so if you’re running that version, it’s probably not crucial that you update to iOS 8.4.1. However, if you’re on iOS 9 and absolutely want to downgrade back to iOS 8, now may be a good time to do it if you’re wanting to jailbreak soon.

Of course, doing so will delete your current jailbreak if you were running iOS 8.4.0, so that’s definitely something to be aware of when you do update to iOS 8.4.1, but hopefully that will only be temporary and you’ll be able to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1 soon enough.

As for an iOS 9 jailbreak, there hasn’t been a whole lot of discussion about it lately. There’s currently no iOS 9 jailbreak, so there’s that, but it’s not too surprising that there hasn’t been a lot of chatter about it, simply because those working on the jailbreak don’t really discuss their progress openly until they’re ready to release a new jailbreak.

This means that we’ll likely see the iOS 9 jailbreak release suddenly without warning, which is how most past jailbreak releases are done anyway, so we’ll keep waiting with our fingers crossed.
