iOS 9.0.2 Problems: 5 Things That Need Your Attention

Published

on

If you’re already running into iOS 9.0.2 problems or if you’re on the fence about installing Apple’s new update, there are some things that require your attention.

Yesterday, Apple rolled out another iOS 9 update dubbed iOS 9.0.2. The update arrived a week after the iOS 9.0.1 release and two weeks after Apple rolled out its brand new iOS 9 operating system. Like iOS 9.0.1, iOS 9.0.2 is a bug fix update that’s aimed at squashing iOS 9 problems.

iOS 9 problems have been emerging at a steady rate since Apple’s first iOS 9 release on September 16th. iOS 9 users have been complaining about issues ranging from bad battery life to problems with connectivity to problems with lag.

iPhone-5-iOS-9-4

iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2 wiped out some of the more annoying iOS 9 problems but they’ve failed to correct them all. iPhone and iPad users are still complaining about issues and we’re starting to see users run into trouble on iOS 9.0.2.

With those iOS 9.0.2 problems in mind, we want to take a look a few things that will help if you do experience issues on Apple’s new update and also a few things you need to keep in mind before you install iOS 9.0.2 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

There Are iOS 9.0.2 Problems

Before you install iOS 9.0.2 on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, know that there are iOS 9.0.2 problems plaguing some users.

Apple’s discussion boards and social media sites are both filling up with feedback about the iOS 9.0.2 update. While some of its positive, there are others that are reporting problems with Apple’s latest iOS 9 update.

Early iOS 9.0.2 problems include issues with backing up the iPhone, phones not working, problems with Maps, more issues with the Podcasts app, problems with Wi-Fi, issues connecting to LTE, and issues with iOS 9.0.2 battery life.

There are iOS 9.0.2 problems, that’s clear, but it looks like most (if not all) of them are isolated to a few users.

We haven’t seen complaints about any major widespread iOS 9.0.2 issues. While there aren’t widespread issues, know that you’re taking a risk updating to iOS 9.0.2.

To help, we’ve put together a list of things to do before installing iOS 9.0.2. We’ve also put together some upgrade tips that will help.

If you decide that the fixes that iOS 9.0.2 brings far outweigh the potential for iOS 9.0.2 problems, take a look at those before you install.

Remember, Apple never forces you to install its updates and there are actually some good reasons why you might want to avoid the iOS 9.0.2 update, at least for the time being. These issues are just one of the reasons.

iOS 9.0.2 Feedback

Pay attention to feedback about the iOS 9.0.2 update. This goes for those of you that have already upgraded and those of you that are still on the fence.

We’ve been taking a close look at the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 5 iOS 9.0.2 updates and our impressions are a great starting point for current and potential iOS 9.0.2 users. We’ll be adding more as time goes on.

iPhone-5-iOS-8.4-10

We mentioned that those are great starting points. You’ll also want to pay attention to feedback from other iPhone and iPad users.

We’ve seen a ton of feedback go up on Apple’s discussion forums and YouTube and that ongoing feedback will help you spot current problems and any that emerge in the future.

Fixes for iOS 9.0.2 Problems

Apple’s discussion forums are also a great place to ask for help if you’re currently experiencing iOS 9.0.2 problems.

You will also want to take a look at our list of fixes for common iOS 9 problems. Our list doesn’t include every single iOS 9.0.2 issue but it does include fixes for common issues like broken Wi-Fi, poor battery life, and more.

Like our impressions, those fixes are a great starting point if you’re dealing with issues or you want to educate yourself before you install the iOS 9.0.2 update. There’s no way to predict if you’ll see problems so you’ll want to be as prepared as possible.

You Can Downgrade

If you run into iOS 9.0.2 problems, you have another out.

Apple is no longer signing off on the iOS 8.4.1 and iOS 9.0 updates but it is signing on the iOS 9.0.1 update. What this means is that you can drop back down to iOS 9.0.1 if you decide that your iOS 9.0.2 problems are too much.

iPhone-5-11

We’ve found iOS 9.0.2 to be as stable as iOS 9.0.1 was but it could be that a move back down to an older version of iOS 9 helps performance on whatever device you’re using.

You’ll need to be quick though. Apple might stop signing off on iOS 9.0.1 in the near future and that will leave you stuck with iOS 9.0.2.

iOS 9.1 Release Could Help

If you’re dealing with iOS 9.0.2 problems, know that Apple hasn’t confirmed an iOS 9.0.3 update and it probably won’t ahead of release. iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2 skipped the beta process and emerged out of thin air. We wouldn’t count on an iOS 9.0.3 release at this point.

Apple does have another iOS 9 update on the way in the form of iOS 9.1. iOS 9.1 is the first milestone update for the operating system and it will bring a number features and enhancements to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It could also bring fixes for iOS 9.0.2 problems.

iOS-9 11.05.48 AM

We’ve also heard that iOS 9.1 beta performance on several devices, including the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6, is solid. That bodes well for you iPhone owners out there.

We’d start paying attention to feedback about the iOS 9.1 beta right now.

iPhone 5 iOS 9 Update: 10 Things to Know After Two Weeks

iPhone 5 iOS 9 Performance: Mostly Good

iPhone 5 iOS 9 Performance: Mostly Good

We've used all three iOS 9 updates on the iPhone 5 and thus far, we've mostly had a good experience with Apple's brand new software. However, there is one issue that's been plaguing our device and we're concerned that it might not go away without a factory reset.

The good: The iPhone 5 iOS 9 update is holding up well in key areas like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and app performance. We haven't run into any major bugs though the device continues to struggle in one very important area.

The bad: The UI feels sluggish and jerky. We can't even open a folder without experiencing a little stutter. The same thing happens when we swipe to the right to open up Spotlight Search. It lags.

This is an issue that we've been dealing with since the release of iOS 8.1 and that's why we're convinced that it's not going to go away without a factory reset of the device.

For now, iOS 9's features and performance and other areas make the software tolerable on the iPhone 5 and we're hopeful that the iOS 9.1 update helps dislodge these speed issues. We'll see.

This new update is stupid, my keyboard is glitchy, I type one letter it follows with 5-6 other letters next to it.. The camera is really SHIT.!! It Doesn’t show times of when private numbers call in and my safari always has an error message saying this site can not be loaded and its reloading (I have very fast internet so I know the issue is with the phone) and that’s never happened before.. You would think iPhones are suppose to get better but these iPhones are getting worst.. This iPhone 6 is worser then the iPhone 4 n 5.. I’ve had almost every iPhone, from iPhone 3 thru to iPhone 6, now I hate IPhones.. My next phone will definitely not be an iPhone..

    • HS

      10/21/2015 at 3:44 pm

@Jeni: Unfortunately, it seems to just be technology and the conglomerates that control it all. I switched from my iPhone 5 to Samsung/Android, when I finally got so fed up with Apple. I went on the basis of many friends’ and coworkers’ suggestions, as they seemed very content with their Samsung smartphones, and I opted for the Galaxy S5 (features I required for work, while waiting to get a suitable, shock/weather-proof case). I didn’t last 2 months before switching back to my iPhone 5 and then got stuck with this whole iOS 9 update fiasco. Technology moves too quickly for it’s own good…mainly because we live in a capitalist world and people are greedy. No matter what you pick, there will be something wrong with it. Unless, of course, you choose to be completely be tech free and enjoy the simple life.

Since updating iPhone to 9.0.2 I have sluggish and locking type, my safari won’t allow me to search Internet and keeps reverting to home page, I have a lot of sticking where I can’t scroll. This was a terrible thing to install. Battery life depletes in a few hours.

IPad Air huge Game Center issues – White screen for hours, does not communicate or allow games to access data. Super laggy like a PC, and get this, apps freeze!! This is so reminiscent of a Windows OS. UNABLE TO DOWNGRADE and no fixes yet. How stupid is that. I am sure that some of these app developers will start putting some pressure on Apple when their revenues start to drop due to player inability to access their games which means no in-app purchases… Oh yeah and keyboard issues, skipping the “n”.

OMG, where are you, Steve Jobs???? Where is the smoothness of iPhone, it’s disappointing
I’m facing all the problems listed above, and the one that annoys me the most is the lost of signal and the way it works when i change from an app to another. It turns off for a second (black screen) and then it goes where it should go. It’s horrible, it’s not iPhone. Very, very disappointed!!!

Ugh, I installed to update on Saturday night, now all of a sudden, I cannot access any web pages on safari (LTE or WiFi), cannot access any games, cannot send iMessages only texts. This is very frustrating, I have been a VERY loyal person to all Apple products but lately it seems like they are getting worse. Like one of the comments I read above, “Where are you, Steve Jobs?”

    • Cary

      10/06/2015 at 10:00 am

Oh, forgot to mention, I cannot access my emails either.

  28. Julie

    10/06/2015 at 2:19 pm

Ever since iOS 9.0.2 update, NONE of my email addresses on any of my devices are behaving properly. I have deleted and purged the same 20 “new” emails four times and they keep coming back. Even if I access iCloud mail on my desktop via web browser, reading and deleting takes up to 30 seconds per email. Something is VERY wrong at Apple.

    • Brenda Thompson

      10/09/2015 at 6:35 am

I have been encountering the same issues! And all three of my email accounts, which used to show their separate emails, now only show the emails of my yahoo account! I can’t get my business emails!!! This is AWFUL!!!

      • R.J.

        10/14/2015 at 5:18 pm

Similar problem here. Emails from 2 different addresses appear in the same yahoo list. None appear in the correct account. Replies are always sent from the same one address.

When trying to send a text via Instant Message, it pre – fills the text field with a grey time object showing 00:00 time stamp and can’t enter text.

    • R.J.

      10/14/2015 at 5:13 pm

That grey text field appears randomly, but I found that you can type behind it and it will send, even though you can’t see it. I went to settings and reset the ‘character count’ button, and that helped sometimes. Other times
hitting the ‘show subject field’ button will allow you to see the message you are composing.

i read all the reviews there is no positive reviews at all. all are negative.

can anyone guide me how to uninstall the update, because it took 1GB of my phone space.

    • Jim

      10/09/2015 at 2:45 pm

Off you have a back up all set in iTunes of your phone. Plug your phone in to iTunes and click on “restore iPhone”. To factory settings.
Then after restore your back up.
But if you do not have a back up that was done before you down loaded the update you are not able to delete it

As soon as i can afford it i’m gonna dump this ipad and replace with a Galaxy tab. Pity as Apple hardware is great but the software is SH*T. Its been a steady southward performance slide since about ios 6. Got to the point now where its simply too frustrating to use. Crap battery performance, apps locking up, woefully slow browsing. And why the need to constantly change app icons? Damn thing is slow enough without wasting time trying to find the new disguise for an old app!

My touch screen does not work properly since the updates. I have to hit the power button and start again. I cannot answer calls because of this problem. Other issues:
    1) text screen going to voice – unable to switch back without going out of iMessage.
    2) old videos all in landscape instead of portrait – everyone’s head cut off.
    3) photos go into random order instead of date order
    4)lagging keyboard

Emails body not downloading on iPad 3 since 9.0.2 update, so frustrating, I wish I hadn’t done this update, what can I do?

  52. JKA

    10/13/2015 at 7:43 am

DON’T DO IT! Since moving from the iphone 5 to iphone 6S and the ios 9.0.2 software, I have had nothing but problems. I would suggest waiting until all the bugs are fixed.
    1. Email accounts not toggling and updating
    2. Battery draining at rapid speed
    3. Phone gets very hot to the touch – even after go to settings and adjusting various controls
    4. Connection speeds are slow
    5. Screen randomly changes orientation
    6. Keyboard seems to be slightly off in calibration – always having to retype
    7. Phone randomly locks up

    Apple -PLEASE ADDRESS THESE ISSUES!

My IPad is now almost unusable since the latest update. Safari is a pain and keeps breaking down, my music is a mess, when I type anything, only the first couple of letters appear. And these are not the only problems. I am off to replace my IPad with a Samsung model as soon as I can. No more Apple products for me. Where can I complain officially?

  54. David

    10/15/2015 at 6:38 am

    9.0.2 is craptastic.
My iPad is so much worse than my iPhone.
1- serious lag time after tying before characters show on the screen.
2- swiping is clunky and frustrating.
3- zoom doesn’t work on half the websites I visit.
My productivity has really dropped and I have gone back to my Sony laptop to get things done.
If I had wanted a clunky product, I would have bought something a lot cheaper.
Thanks Apple people for enhancing my product- NOT !!!

IPad2 with 9.02: very very slow! Can’t connect, even with full wifi signal. Even opening iBooks it takes ages to show anything.
COME ON APPLE! GET YOUR FINGER OUT!!!

My problem with 9.0.2 is that my ALL PHOTOS freeze when I scroll up to the photo I want to post on my apps or it crashes most the time which I didn’t have this problem on IOS’s 8 or regular 9

    1. In call history we cant see which number they called from. (ie the person having more numbers). in previous version it was highlighted one.
    2 Frequent hanging and debug.
    3.display motion not smooth.

After I updated my 4S, my wifi turns itself off and I have to go back to settings to enable. The same with the imessage feature. This has turned its self off on numerous occasions. I messages get sent as text alot. Some messages not being received or at times duplicates being received.
Safari slow or reloads pages for no apparent reason. Typing in the safari address bar can be an issue too.
    Apps crash. lock screen freezes.

All since the update! Fix this Apple and please put more effort into checking your updates before you release them.

I’ve experienced most everything mentioned above. Also problems with Bluetooth in car. Phone won’t connect or won’t respond when trying to make a call. The most annoying was having the screen freeze when my wake up alarm went off so I couldn’t swipe to snooze or shut off!

At least half the time my text messages give me a blank screen where the keyboard should be, I have to close out of messages and go back in. My google maps is also super slow and I just moved to a new town so I really need it! Even my internet is ridiculously slow, like it can’t find the Wi-Fi or LTE signal. No problems like this until the upgrade.

IOS 9 and 9.0.2 are most lousy iOS Apple has put on iPhone 5s since iOS 8 my All Photos are mixed up out of order I got photos from last year mixed up with photos from this year they get out of sync all the time. Every month I find some my photos at the end of All Photo instead of new photos I take it will be old photos from last year

I’ve been unable to backup my phone since the so-called upgrade. Can’t access the internet half the time. If I can, it’s slow. My emails come in spurts and to think I just bought this iPhone 6 in July. Where’s our class action suit people! We are unable to use these phones most of the time.

This “review” of iOS9 is way to friendly. If you are a iPhone 5 user STAY AWAY from iOS9. You phone will run hot and burn through the battery in less than 4 hours. I consider this “upgrade” having made my phone useless. The only solution to battery drain problem is to switch to airplane mode = useless phone. I have narrowed this battery drain issue to using your cellular data. Turn off cellular data and your phone will run cool and battery will operate as normal again. Turn on cellular data when you need your phone to be smart again. Then make it dumb to have battery left.
I urge everyone to call Apple support and complain about this problem. At best this is a major quality assurance issue OR as some have reasoned it is a ploy to get you to buy a new phone.
As for this review of iOS9, you are way off the mark. Performance of iOS9 on iPhone 5 is simply unacceptable. It used to be that you could trust Apple software updates. From now on the message is upgrade at your own risk as you can never go back.

Agreed. Probably too late to help, but if you’re on a 5 or heaven forbid a 4, 9 is not your friend. Avoid it. This from personal experience and many of my (earlier model) iPhone clients.

This is Apple, you can’t flash any older ios8, or ios7, or ios6. If you update to the new one, you are stuck with it and Apple grabbed us by the balls and we re screwed. On Android you can flash any old OS your phone come with it. Not with Apple. This is real Dictatorship by Apple

Sure was a long story to say essentially this:
Latest iOS upgrades usher in as many problems as solutions. Subsequent updates only offer minor help. Folks pissed, so BACKUP your devices to ICloud AND iTunes before upgrading.

Was kinda hoping I’d find some answers in your article, instead of a long drawn out complaint with the 85 exclamation marks (aka comments) . . . 86, now, if you include mine. Although, mine’s less about the iOS than about the shortage of answers.

PS I did have to type this instead of getting my preferred method of dictating to text. Seems an incoming call midway through dictating this reply zapped the microphone ability when we finished the call. Mic is now grayed out. Arghhhh Add that glitch to the list.

Since the installation of ios9 on my iphone 5, 2 weeks ago, I am unable to sync with my laptop yahoo emails. It keeps saying go to settings. When i enter my same email address and password it says it cannot be found I can still use my yahoo mail on my iphone. Its so annoying that nobody is out there to help. What do I do? im not good at technology at the best of times, but im getting desperate.

I have another question : I live in Spain, my iPad is in English but I am getting the text of Terms and Conditions always in Spanish – why not in English ? I will never sign that because my Spanish is not good enough to be sure I have understood it well. Very annoying !
