iOS 9.2 Update: 5 Things to Know After 11 Days

Published

on

The iOS 9.2 update is still the most current version of iOS 9 available to the public but that could change at any moment.

Its been nearly two weeks since Apple released its second milestone upgrade for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The iOS 9.2 update went through an extensive beta process before Apple decided to release it to the public earlier this month.

Like iOS 9.1, the iOS 9.2 update comes with more than bug fixes and security patches. It also comes with enhancements for Siri, Apple Music, and Apple News. It also delivers a new feature called AT&T NumberSync to AT&T iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 users.

As we push away from the iOS 9.2 release date, we continue to see new and important details emerge for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners.

We’ve discovered some new details regarding the iOS 9.2 update’s performance. We’ve learned about some new problems plaguing those that made the jump. And we’ve learned a whole lot about its successor, the iOS 9.2.1 update that was recently confirmed for all iOS 9 users.

With that in mind, we want to take an updated look at the iOS 9.2 release for iPhone 6, iPhone 5 and others. If you’re just now finding iOS 9.2 or if you’ve been on iOS 9.2 for 11 days, you’ll find something useful in here.

iOS 9.2 Review: iPhone & iPad

For eleven days, we've been digging into the iOS 9.2 update on several different devices including iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, and iPad mini 2. And what we've found is that, for the most part, the iOS 9.2 update is worthy of a download.

In our iOS 9.2 review, we noted that the update continues to perform in key areas like battery life, connectivity (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE), and app performance. We've noticed a bit of lag on a few of the older devices but we still feel like the iOS 9.2 update is the best version of iOS 9.

If you're on iOS 9 already, iOS 9.2 is worth an install. If not for the performance, for the bug fixes and security patches and the new features that we detailed shortly after its release. iOS 9.2 isn't flashy like iOS 9.1 was but it's still a very solid update.

If you need some additional advice, take a look at our list that outlines reasons to and not to install the iOS 9.2 update right now. It could help.
