iPad 2 Still the Only Tablet I’d Buy Mom

Published

on

Why should I buy an Android tablet for my mom? Android tablet manufacturers still can’t answer that simple question with conviction. So guess which tablet we bought mom for her birthday?

Our family pitched in and bought my mom a white 16GB iPad 2 for her birthday. She was very excited when she unwrapped her birthday gift the other day and she’s busy learning how to use the thing this week.

This isn’t the first time my brother and I have given mom a gadget for her birthday. Last year she received an iPhone 4 and she got a Kindle DX the year before that.

So why did we buy her an iPad instead of a Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1 or some other Honeycomb tablet? The short answer is that she wanted one. She’s borrowed my iPad 2 on a couple of occasions, watched two of her grandsons play games on an  iPad 2 several times and watched her friends work on their Apple tablets.

I think my mom is a pretty typical electronics consumer. She doesn’t follow gadgets on a daily basis, but does enjoy using them. She’s seen ads for both the iPad 2 and some of the Honeycomb tablets, but she’s never so much as mentioned the Android devices. So why would I even think of buying her anything other than an iPad?

Some Honeycomb tablets out-spec the iPad 2, but consumers don’t buy specs. Tegra, 4G LTE and Android 3.1  are all Greek to Mom.

Consumers buy experiences and as of now, the iPad 2 offers the best tablet experience on the market. There are countless apps built specifically for the iPad 2. There are countless cases and accessories built for the iPad 2. There are free iPad classes at Apple stores where tablet newbies can learn how to use the devices.

The Honeycomb market is exciting and evolving. There’s certainly a ton of potential, but these devices aren’t catching on in the mass market quite yet. Enthusiasts and geeks are following Android tablets closely, but the cause is lost on people like my mom. Things might change in the near future, but for now the iPad is the tablet market as far as my mom’s concerned.

There’s a huge segment of the population that are similar to my mom. They covet products that are reliable and easy to operate. They enjoy using technology, not tinkering with it. I don’t think they’re going to have Android tablets on their radars anytime soon.

Honestly people who buy iPad are simply victims of the big apple marketization. They want iPad without really even knowing the specs or why they want it in the first place. Any sane person would know that an android tablet offers a lot more possibilities than the ipad

I bought an android tablet, for those possibilities, and believe me those posibilities are still a long way off.  I now have an ipad 2 and it is so much more productive.  And it has so many more possibilites that can actually be realized,  Android is way away from the ipad.

I did the same.  After 6 months with an android tablet, I bought an ipad this week because the application support I need is already there.

Quite frankly I hate the Apple adverts, they are pretentious and over-zealous. That being said, I have looked into the specs of various tablets, their performance, their versatility, and I would still only want an iPad. Some people may feel trapped by Apple in terms of what they can do, but to be honest, 95% of tablet users won’t want to do anything other than what the iPad can do – and it does those things very well.

I just paid $ 23.86 for an iPhone and my girlfriend loves her Dell laptop that we got for $ 38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 42 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 665 which only cost me $ 62,81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, GrabPenny.com

The ipad has more apps and more coverage.  I would consider this a big pro for non-geek family/friend recommendations or gifts.
On the other hand it also forces a weird tethered itunes relationship – which I would think enough to blow my mom’s mind wide open.  So that is a big con.
And I know ipad is leaving that model behind with a future OS revision.
That is one of the things apple fans should be thanking anroid tablets for.
Regardless of the constant insistence that android tablets have no place in the world and should not be allowed to be mentioned in the same breath as ipad, etc, etc…
It turns out that if nobody else thinks ipad has no competition, apple certainly realizes it does.  They have begun to make competitive changes in an effort to keep ahead of the curve.
Competition is good for everyone – the bastardization, misuse, and mismanagement of patent law on the other hand is horrible for everyone except the few large companies with large full-time legal teams.

when parents need technology, best opt for some simpler stuff. they are not planning on hacking the pentagon network so they dont need the myriad of features (and bugs) more complicated devices have

Recently bought an ASUS Tranformer.. got a great price having Office Depot honor Staples $100 off coupon.  Checked all the specs including better resolution, comparable processing capabilites/speed, scoped out a number of hands on youtube videos including a 22 minute detailed one comparing Ipad2 vs the Transformer (it was a tie) and decided I didn’t need to spend $200-$300 more on a similar machine that’s probably not even made to the legendary ASUS specifications.  As far as apps, more than you need through Google Market.. or at least more than I need since every time I do a search, I don’t get more than 4 rows down a seemingly endless page.  Also included is an ASUS cloud.   I’ve already been updated twice on Honeycomb.  My experience as a novice tablet and Android user has been nothing less than very gratifying.  But different strokes for different folks.

Just a heads up this blog is regularly copying and pasting others articles and blog posts word for word into their blog. They are not crediting or even using quotation marks. The only thing they do is add the name of article at end with a link to original material.

They copied and pasted my post but seem unaware of ping backs so I discovered this. I used their contact page to address this but they have not answered me at this time. I’m a newer blog struggling for readers and this really upset me.
