iPad Air 2 Release Date: 5 Things Buyers Need to Know
Last week, Apple confirmed the iPad Air 2 release date for nearly 30 countries including the United States. With the new week upon us, and Apple’s new iPad release imminent, let’s take a look at the five most important things consumers should know, right now, about Apple’s upcoming iPad Air 2 release date.
After months and months of rumor and speculation, Apple finally announced its two new iPad models dubbed iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. While the company’s iPad mini 3 is a tiny refresh that adds a gold color and Touch ID, the iPad Air 2 is far more interesting and includes some worthwhile changes including a new design.
The iPad Air 2 comes with some impressive new features including Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint technology embedded in the home button, a design that’s just 6.1mm thin and less than a pound, a display that now includes several improvements including anti-reflective technology, a brand new A8x chip that delivers 64-bit support, and an improved rear camera.
It will come at the company’s usual $499 starting price point and knock the original iPad Air down to the company’s more affordable $399. The company will position the iPad mini 3 at $399 with the iPad mini 2 and original iPad mini rounding out the company’s brand new iPad lineup for the fall of 2014.
While Apple confirmed the iPad Air 2 specs, it did not confirm a specific iPad Air 2 release date only saying that the release will be coming at some point this week. Apple’s iPad Air 2 release should be just a few short days away in the United States and in 28 other nations and regions around the world and with that in mind, we want to take a look at the five most important things iPad Air 2 buyers need to know about the ever so important iPad Air 2 release date.
iPad Air 2 Release Date Imminent
Apple still hasn’t announced an iPad Air 2 release date but we’re confident that Apple’s in-store release date is extremely close. Maybe the biggest sign is that Apple’s website is now listing the in-store pickup option on its website. Nothing is available for pickup yet but the fact that it’s now live on the company’s website means that we’re very, very close.
We haven’t heard or seen anything that suggests that we’ll see an iPad Air 2 release date delay so there’s no reason to believe that Apple will renege on its word. The iPad Air 2 release date will take place sometime between now and Friday or a whole host of countries. As a reminder, here is where the iPad Air 2 will arrive first:
US, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China (Wi-Fi models only), Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau (Wi-Fi models only), Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. Availability in Croatia, Greece, Puerto Rico, Russia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates
The company says that additional iPad Air 2 release dates will arrive in the coming months as the company works to get its latest tablet out to countries and consumers around the world.
iPad Air 2 Pre-Orders
Apple’s iPad Air 2 is still available to pre-order and Best Buy, one of the nation’s leading retailers, has started taking early orders for all variants of the iPad Air 2. This gives consumers another pre-order outlet though it looks like Best Buy will be charging the same prices as Apple. Best Buy does not reveal an iPad Air 2 release date.
Amazon is also listing an iPad Air 2 on its website with the words “Newest Version” attached to it. This is not the iPad Air 2. This is the original iPad Air listed with a $415 price tag that’s more expensive than Apple’s $399 asking price. We expect Amazon to list the iPad Air 2 at some point in the future though these pre-orders should be avoided because they aren’t for the current model.
Shipping Dates Haven’t Moved
It looks like the iPad Air 2 will escape the same release date difficulties that plagued iPhone 6 pre-orders and the iPhone 6 release date. Shipping times for most iPad Air 2 models remain at two to four days with a few models boasting four to six day shipping times thru the Apple Store. It’s not clear if this is due to lack of demand or a solid supply chain but it looks like buyers will be able to get an iPad Air 2 on its release date.
Can Now Check for In-Store Pickup
Buyers looking to get the iPad Air 2 on release day should know that the iPad Air 2 should be available for in-store pickup in the near future. This is an option that Apple offered for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and it allows buyers to order ahead of time and pick up after school or work and not have to deal with the delivery process.
Unfortunately, the iPad Air 2 isn’t available for in-store pickup yet though we should see that change once Apple announces a specific iPad Air 2 release date this week.
iPad Air 2 Deals
There are also several iPad Air 2 release date deals swirling about. Walmart is offering a solid iPad Air 2 trade-in deal that will knock a ton of money off the device’s regular price. Not to be outdone, Best Buy is also offering a trade-in deal that will net consumers a solid catch.
Best Buy’s deal offers:
- Guaranteed minimum of $175 toward the new iPad mini 3 with trade in of iPad 2nd generation or newer
- Guaranteed minimum of $200 toward the new iPad Air 2 with trade in of iPad 2nd generation or newer
The deal excludes the first generation iPads, does not include devices with damage or cracked screens, is not available at all locations, and only lasts for a limited time. The deal will end in early November. While there are a number caveats to be aware of, iPad Air 2 buyers meeting the threshold will be able to chop the iPad Air 2’s $499 price down by quite a bit on release day.
