Apple announced the iPad mini price starting at $329 for the 16GB WiFi only model, noticeably more expensive than analyst expectations for $250 and higher than the competing Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD tablets.

Apple charges a premium for the design and materials used in making products. Budget conscious consumers may still opt for the Nexus 7, but Apple users looking for portability may pay for it, especially on the 4G LTE iPad mini.
